Max Hull’s Hell Yeahh (Too Nice To Skate) is a masterpiece of unc skateboard cinema. It includes Gabe Tennen[‘s Wonderful Horrible Life], Conor Prunty’s salute to ten years since “422,” a Joe Scordo “My War,” Sadie BGPs, a full Luke Koch part, and so much more. If you are in your unc years or even on the cusp of unc-ness and in the midst of finding excuses to not skate on a weekend or just hit the skatepark for an hour, seeing Gabe shred should be inspo enough to commit to relearning some of your lost tricks this spring.
A reminder that Tricolor Patinetas’ 1999 video out of Mexico is essential viewing. Find your friend with the biggest screen you know, invite some friends over, bring some drinks and watch it together this week.
John de Perrot’s TOUCH GRASS video is a 17-minute, half-Philly, half-Baltimore video featuring some brilliant spotwork and third-eye-open skateboarding.
Nike SB made a featurette about Bronx Girls Skate and their origins at the River Avenue Skatepark in the South Bronx (also where Tyshawn came up) on the occasion of their new Dunk colorway.
Greg Navarro and Jenkem profiled our friend (and Dime Comp legend) Bob La Salle’s hot sauce company, Satan’s Drano, in a 15-minute video.
“Outside of his office, as I hobbled toward home, I came across a patch of Bondo at the run-up and landing of a massive brick double set with an accompanying kinked handrail. That’s funny, I thought to myself, that anyone would even prep a spot that clearly can’t be skated.” Simple Magic recounts some deep lore about Jhanka’s Thrasher cover, which happens to be set outside a Vancouver-based physical therapist’s office that has seen its fair share of local skaters over the year — just not on the spot outside.
“These days a practiced interviewee at ease in his own skin, Blondey McCoy sounds unafraid of dead space and taking a moment to find the right word or phrase, setting an unhurried pace that could remain functional as semi-sophisticated background noise, sort of like having ‘All Things Considered’ playing a room or two over.” Boil the Ocean on Blondey McCoy’s recent run on the podcast circuit.
Was recently at a bar whose screens played a rotation on “Tokyo in the 90s,” “NYC in the 70s” stock footage videos that were strangely addictive to drift off into and weave back to the conversation. Feels like any old skate bar might across the globe could achieve similar ambient bliss by carefully selected raw files v.s. just having a loop of Flip Sorry on for the 6,456th time. Anyway, here’s 15 minutes of raw footage from Toy Machine’s Jump Off A Building that Joe Hiddleson just uploaded.
