Happy New Year ✨
“I try to laugh as much as I can, be hyped and just try to push myself to remember shit can be so much worse. The most random shit gets me pumped, I really just remember to talk to strangers, smile, or whatever. It really works.” Monster Children posted their profile of Q.S.S.O.T.Y. Karim Callender online.
“I’m not gardening, but I would be down to.” They also shared an interview with Diego Todd.
Skate Jawn went out to Cleveland for Zack May to spend the first hundo of 2026 in the latest installment of their “$100 Chill” series. Shout out to all the wholesome fellas out there allocating a bit of their $100 for their girlfriends. And shout out to pirogies.
QS-favorite Jordan Trahan dropped a New Year’s Eve part for Dial Tone Wheels. Any time somebody hardflips a bump-to-bar — no matter how big it is — you can’t help but think, “Holy shit, he hardflipped a bump-to-bar.”
“Bobby De Keyzer and Tomas Morrison earlier this year melded the ‘raw files’ and ‘one-spot part’ blueprints to make something deeply immersive and wholly new, a document of obsession, frustration and fleeting moments of bliss.” Like QS readers, Boil the Ocean ranked “BOBCBC” as 2025’s best part. (Over the holiday, we uploaded a standalone video accoutrement of Tomas talking about the making of the part from Jacques’ “Skateboarding & The Silver Screen” article.) Also good shout on Ibu’s Cons part, which was incredible.
The ever-prolific Jermaine Whittaker already has another part out for Charlotte’s 5301 CLT collective. Mainly North Carolina stuff, with a decent bit of New York mixed in. Banger of an ender going the “wrong” way on the Wall Street dirt ledge.
“How a small Croatian village became the heart of independent skate videos” via Bubble.
Ian Browning’s “Rules of Skateboarding” series relocated from Village Psychic to Skate Bylines.
….aaaaaand Slam City Skates started converting some of their interviews into podcasts, the first is theirs with Josh Kalis.
The QS Film Desk isn’t staffed by unrelenting Safdie truthers or anything, but if you need to beef up your watchlist during this shitty spell of weather, Criterion uploaded a 2020-era rundown of the Safdie’s favorite New York movies and the list is about ~100 titles long. (Also, wtf is dude talking about saying the steam doesn’t come up from the streets irl?)
Spot Updates 📍 — If you follow any D.C. local on Instagram, you already know, but in the event that you were intent on making the trip down to Plaza soon, it’s fenced off (reportedly for repairs, not renovation.)
Loosies Corner 🚬 — Five minutes from Antonio + 1:30 from Hjalte + 2:40 of Kader loosies.
QS Sports Desk Play of the Week 🏀 — Just because Washington needs some good news, CJ McCollum to steal it from Milwaukee.
Quote of the Week 🗣 “I thought my jumping down shit days were over, and then I put in these Ryan Decenzo insoles.” — Salomon Cardenas
Anytime someone says “2026,” I hear it in the cadence of this song’s opening seconds. This got leaked maybe ~this time in 2020 and got a ton of burn over lockdown, with a thought of: “Damn, 2026 is a long fucking time time away.” Now, it’s 2026 and 2020 was still yesterday ffs.
