Zered is the latest subject of the Lookback Library’s “Cover Discussions” series, chatting about his three Transworld covers and three Skateboarder covers. (Crazy he hasn’t had a Thrasher one before, especially given the Massachusetts connection with Phelps.)

“Caller 10” is a crustaceous journey by Pittsburgh’s Radio Skateshop through one of the roughest cities for skate spots. Includes a great Zach Funk part to close it out.

While we’re on the topic of crust, peep Adam Meuller’s part in Justin Bohl’s Detroit video, Minted, which includes everything from lines on broken boats through abandoned buildings to polejams out of snow piles.

If you were too young to have experienced the real-time reign of the skaters most synonymous with the nineties — but had already clocked your 10,000 hours of watching skate videos by the time, say, Jake Johnson hit the scene — there’s a decent chance you carry a vivid memory of first seeing Zered in a video (especially if you grew up in the northeast.)

Getting your pro board thrown into your skull and having to spend the rest of the premiere celebrating while bleeding from the head is a new one. Sk8 or die taken to its logical extreme. Maybe it was just out of solidarity with Giannis ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

QS B.F.F. Zered Bassett was on the Angel & Z podcast last week. There’s a bit of graffiti talk at the start, but it gets into skating about ten minutes in. A lot of wisdom and honesty from one of the first few to truly do it at that level on the east coast. Also, the Greece story is insane.

Zach Moore (director of last summer’s remix blockbuster, “Jake Johnson: The Movie“) is front-running for delivering 2021’s best laughs so far. A) “The Ultimate Skate Songs Collection” envisions skate videos’ most iconic music in the format of a late-night TV commercial for a CD box set. The plot twist in this one is so brilliant. B) “A Caption To Die For” pays tribute to Thrasher‘s often absurd video captions in the form of old-timey newspapermen by way of classic Hollywood film noir. Give Zach Moore his skate Oscar.
