Expensive Navy

This is the last week it gets dark before 7 P.M. 🤞

Shadow is a full-length Long Island scene video (though obviously much of it is filmed in the city) by David Rind. Last two parts are fire, though you may have caught the link for Max Rowlette’s section last week when Skate Jawn ran it.)

Not sure there has been a Johnny Wilson trip edit since that “Roadtrip” one way way back. Tom Knox, Nik Stain, Eric Koston, Louie Lopez, et al. in Texas with Miles Griptape, ICYMI. Love that this roster could come together for something as arbitrary as a griptape team trip, and have it feel like an actual homie edit ❤️

“If, when I was 15, somebody told me to stab someone and they’d give me this, I would’ve done it.” Greg Navarro — creator of The Upper West Side Curb Club — hung around …the Upper West Side with Eli Gesner to get a breakdown of the neighborhood’s landmark spots for a new Jenkem video series called “Neighborhoods.”

So Icy

November 20th from here on out should be Brandon Turner Day.

There is no chance that you haven’t caught this already, right? Naquan Rollings’ “BUSS” video for Thrasher went live last week. This, “Rerock,” Kill Bill,” and “Pre-Roll” are the de facto box set of 2020 edits that we’ll look back on for a snapshot of New York skateboarding in this year.

Village Psychic was inspired by skier style (yes, skiers are as big fashion of nerds as we are, though they’re a bit more “official” about it) to consider the ideal skate outfit. Illustrations by Abada ♥

Which one of you has a foot fetish and hooked up with a writer from Vogue this past May? S/O for being responsible and getting a COVID test beforehand.

‘My Role Is To Show That It’s Magical’ – An Interview With Lucas Puig

Intro & Interviews by Farran Golding
Collages by Requiem For A Screen
Original Photography by Sem Rubio

Beyond Lucas Puig’s reputation as the quintessential European who “made it,” his sponsor history alone weaves his name into the skateboard culture of not only France and America – but also England, China and however many other countries in which he’s filmed video parts.

Born and raised in Toulouse, France, and traveling from a young age, Lucas had no desire to live elsewhere for some time. “I felt like I needed to be home,” he says of the gaps between skate trips. “That’s why I never moved to Paris or another big city.”

Five years ago, however, he relocated to the small Basque town of Biarritz. “We came here to be close to the beach,” Lucas says over the phone one morning. “For me, it was for surfing and for my girlfriend, it was for a different lifestyle. More chilled and less subways, less people. Just taking our time.”

Lucas Puig Oceanside Remix

Once upon a time, a remix video was a bi-monthly occurrence on the pages of this website. But as the the floodgates of daily skate content opened, keeping up with all the Insta posts and raw files got exhausting; we left much of the remixing duties to the random YouTube accounts we follow, whose work we happily link each Monday when they happen to clock every Nik Stain and Vincent Touzery appearance.

Even so, the “Poolside” remix of Lucas Puig loosies circa 2014 has remained a personal favorite in the ol’ editing portfolio. This was before skateboarding on Instagram was what it is now, and some of the dubbing is way off, but it still feels like a skateboard fantasy sports season triumph.

Wood & Plants & Oceans

Just make the next one Tyshawn Jones Pro Skater. Photo via Atiba.

“I just saw myself as a homie who was helping another homie. That was not something that ever crossed my mind like, ‘Am I good at this?’ Both of us are happy in that moment.” Jenkem has an amazing interview with Briana King about her meet-ups for girls and LGBTQ youth learning to skateboard.

“I think you really got to listen to your feeling. Don’t go for the show. Go for your heart.” Lucas Puig on relationships, wood, plants, oceans and not having his johnson fall out when he’s skating in shorts — also for Jenkem, also inspiring. Maybe it’s time we start working on a sequel to the “Poolside” remix
