The new Mira Conyo video, MC2 is now online. You know New York is big when you can watch an entire video filmed in Manhattan with pretty much no easily recognizable spots. Maybe that’ll change with more people venturing up to the Heights on account of the new skatepark, but definitely refreshing to watch for now.

Eli Reed has a six-minute video interview up on VHS Mag (which is apparently “the Quartersnacks of Asia.”) He discusses Vehicle, a lot of the New York skaters from the nineties, Tokyo, etc. There’s a bit of skating in it too.

Billy Rohan talks about his “first New York video part” from EST 3, which includes the top 10 noseslide into midday 7th Avenue foot traffic and the worst song ever.

Spam is the new video from The Beerics. Cool spots, solid skating, and an #indie soundtrack. The slam at 4:22 might may rival our past entrant for slam of the year.

Nothing to do with skateboarding, but Roctakon has some Best of 2013 picks over on the Turntable Lab site. Glad to see we’re introducing the concept of being at terms with Drake to the broader world. (BTW the three best tracks of 2013 are actually “Shit,” the ATL “Shit” remix and “Paranoid” / anything else with a “Mustard on the beat ho” drop before it. Oh and this obvs.)

Bum Rush the B.Q.E. Spot

The “Bum Rush the Spot” event that was originally scheduled for this Saturday, is going down tomorrow (Friday, the 21st) from 4 to 6 P.M. The Polar / KCDC / Converse / B.Q.E. / etc. crew behind it has gone through great lengths to elevate the B.Q.E. / Lorimer Lot from its status as a dusty, dirty refuge for local brown pants skaters into something more akin to the D.I.Y. scene in Polar’s native of Malmo, Sweden. Some photos of what they’ve been building have surfaced on Instagram, but naturally, the process included a few hang-ups. Everything looks like it’s a go for tomorrow, though. Sweden seems like it is more rational about constructive uses of neglected space than New York (or anywhere in America, for that matter), so let’s hope that these new obstacles last.

Stop by tomorrow if you’re not going to be the token idiot who waits in line for an $800 piece of glass. Take the L to Lorimer, skate one block north, make a right, and skate east under the B.Q.E. There’s an after party / art show at the new KCDC location (85 N. Third Street) afterwards. Full flyer here.

No Top on the Wagon, Fisherman Gear

As the fall begins, Quartersnacks welcomes the prospective NYU, New School, SVA, etc. classes of 2016 to New York. Please read this guide before going outside, so you are not quickly exiled from civilized New York skateboard society.

It is crazy that Peter Smolik’s body of work continues to be so underrated, even beyond contributions to technical skateboarding. This past weekend, Joe Budden, a perennial favorite of those who insist they only listen to “real hip-hop yo,” made headlines by switching his default Twitter avatar to a photo of his face buried in a vagina. Smolik was WAAAAAY ahead of the curve on that one, and continues to not receive any credit for it.

Eight-minute iPhone clip of a bunch of younger kids ripping around the city this past summer. A lot of parks, but some street clips as well.

Vans is currently having a “Jason Dill Week” over on their site. Yesterday’s feature was an archive of Dill’s old magazine interviews, and today’s is a look back at his old Workshop ads with commentary on each one. (In case you missed it, there’s a long interview with him and Van Engelen over on the Syndicate site that chronicles both of their skate careers in great detail.)

Apparently, The Financial Times now covers the skateboard industry.

Our good friend, Alex Dymond, designed a sick Woessner shoe for the Vans OTW collection. You should scoop it up if you’re going for a grown and sexy vibe this fall.

There are some throw-your-board-down round handrails at the new BMCC building on Greenwich Street. There’s no security in front now, but that probably won’t last. Also, they might suck, because nobody here knows anything about rails.

KCDC Video (partially) Online

KCDC premiered a new video this past November to honor the shop’s ten-year anniversary. It took them a while to get copies pressed up, but they finally have them on sale for eight bucks. Initially, people were saying the video was mostly throwaway, but it’s a fun watch regardless. It’s made by Peter Sidlauskas, so that makes it a product of the east coast’s finest skate video production studio. The only parts online are from Flipmode franchise members (McFeely, Derick Z., Gonyon) and Danny Falla (shout out to him for doing a fakie hardflip on the Saint John’s Hospital Banks…that seems really difficult to do.) Derick’s part has a handful of cameo appearances from members without full parts. Hopefully, that Phil Rodriguez part comes out on March 14th, 1992. There’s also a lot of weirdo art school video art shit going on in there, a la Caviar (McFeely’s part = Best Art Direction in a Video Part 2012? Flipmode-directed indie electro band and/or SpaceGhostPurp videos up next?), so it’s more-or-less a full-on Flipmode video. It’ll probably be on the bonus feature disc of the eventual DVD box set, along with I Woke Up Dead.

As you probably know, KCDC had to get rid of their ramp, and will relocate the shop in the same neighborhood next month. You could and should buy the full video for $8 on KCDCskateshop.com.

That spot at 1:21 in Falla’s part isn’t in the United States, is it?
