Saint John’s Hospital

Spots: Queens — Corona, Elmhurst & Rego Park

Update — August 7, 2011: The banks have been blocked off for construction. You cannot skate here anymore. It was only a matter of time since the hospital has been shut down for a few years now. (Thanks to Tracy for the tip.)

Spot:

The hospital shut down in 2009, but the bank spot out front remains. The banks themselves are very rugged, and steep, so you need a bit of skill to manage a flip trick on them. There are valves embedded in the banks to do tricks over and some of the upper brick portions have been waxed along the edges for grinds and slides. Towards the eastern end of the bank is metal wall that curves outwardly that can be used for wallies.

Bust — ♦ / Rare: The hospital is shut down, so the spot is relativley bust-free now, as there is no one to kick you out.

Location 57th Avenue and Queens Boulevard in Rego Park. Take the R or V to Woodhaven Boulevard and skate west on Queens Boulevard for two blocks. the hospital is on the south side of the street.
