🔑 Interview, Intro & Video Production by Farran Golding
Andrew Allen is practically a longstanding field of study at QS. A few years back he spoke at length about L.A. High for our “Favorite Spot” series, which was followed by a written appendix of other bank spots he has frequented. However, recurring spots are just one aspect in an output with many layers.
Although Allen’s appreciation for Kathryn Bigelow’s surf-action-heist movie, Point Break, is widely recognized, there’s an intertextuality of movie nods spanning the last decade of Allen’s career in the form of video parts, music supervision, board graphics and even a cardigan worn by Ray Liotta.
Fresh from the set of his appearance in-front of the camera for his new Vans Authentic High commercial, Allen spoke about the big screen nods thT have proliferated his skate output from The Lost Boys scoring his part in Hockey III, to a deep appreciation for Michael Mann’s Heat, and paying respects to the late David Lynch.
Thanks to Benny & the crew @ Hockey for their help on this one.
Bunt Rapid Fire:
Who had the biggest influence on your skating?: ANDREW ALLEN
This is gonna sound crazy, but a week before Hockey III came out I dm’d FA calling that song out as a winner for a skate part. About lost my sh*t when I heard the rise in
Gerard McMahon’s voice as AA’s part started. ╰(ɵ̥̥ ˑ̫ ɵ̥̥ ╰)
now ~this~ is the content we keep coming back for, well done qs
AA is my 1st and 2nd fav skater (1-8 AA & FA/H AA, respectively) and an interesting follow-up to this + LA High vid would be AA’s trick variation/consistency through the years. Dude’s rotated through so many trick bags but keeps staples like switch crook bashes, fakie front crooks, etc. Thx Farran and shoutout Benny for the galaxy brain art direction that makes Hockey Hockey.
