Best Bloody in Huntington

Figured it was due time, and that the city’s three dozen skateparks have evolved past a point of us needing to point some eager tourists towards the direction of the B.Q.E. lot. Updated the QS spot book for the first time in ~two years, mainly to acknowledge the fact that, yes, curbs are formal *spots* now. Removed a handful of outdated ones (yes, the B.Q.E. lot #lol), too. If you live here or visit often, nothing to see here.

The Bronze dudes return to the Polish Park ledges that they made famous in earlier videos with some new faces + Shaun Paul goes off + Will Marshall hops over and back on the furthest possible New York spot + Josh Wilson seals it with with a 10/10 performance in Bronze x DC Shoes’ “WHAT IF GOD SAID” video.

Breeze From the East

Our webstore is now chirping with summer QS goods. Thanks for your support, as always ❤️ Available in U.S. QS accounts now. Arriving internationally now 🌏 Photo via Prov Tokyo.

This video rules: “Nice On” by Par Skateboards out of New Jersey. Perhaps the first skate video to be cross-edited with golf footage, so if golf hits the #trendwatch, you know where the nascency was. Otherwise, an all-around inspirational watch on the levels of fun you could squeeze out of hanging out in a industrial park with your friends.

“What happens when Kim Kardashian posts a picture wearing one of your hats?” Village Psychic spoke to Jerry Hsu about the ins-and-outs of starting a brand in the era where everyone has a brand + about the 1993 Foundation team, naturally.

Great, No Chairs

Not entirely in the city, but mostly in the city: Been singing the praises of Josh Paynter’s vlog series that started up earlier this year for a minute, but volume four is one of the best yet. Incredible discerning eyes for spots that we pass on day after day. The wallie transfer under the bridge and gap to grind at Borough Hall were standouts, plus the last dude’s mini part is fire.

Where there are re-openings, there are trip edits. RVCA went to New York with Suciu, Spanky, Zach Allen, Donta Hill and Curren Caples. The museum seems to have the heaviest traction of appearances in circa 2k21 trip edits now that the eight set on the west side is decommissioned.

ICYMI: John Dilo went off on a bunch of New York spots in the last minute of his new Almost part.

Can We Have A Pool Dad?

Adam & Slicky • Photo by Sophie Day

“I would be on tour with all these guys and that late 90s San Diego, hip-hop style of culture was ruling at the time. And I was just a kid from Northern California who liked My Bloody Valentine.” There’s a really nice interview with Jerry Hsu about life after sponsors in …GQ? Jk, Noah knows what he’s doing ♥

Dylan Holderness put together a rad ten-minute video from ten days in Puerto Rico. Shout out to having wild horses chilling in the background of city plazas. We went to that spot and didn’t see any damn horses!

The text is in German, but the dudes from Irregular skate mag put up a supplementary article to their “Summer Trip To New York” clip that was linked last Monday, and it includes a ton of really sick photos. Shout out to everyone going the extra mile in the #legacy #content realm. Tricks can be A.B.D. — but everyone’s story is different yaknow.

The fashion mags are onboard for the cause — Dazed ran an article about the cultural significance of the Tompkins asphalt, and Paper did the same. We cannot stress enough that this is so much bigger than skateboarding, and more about the community that this small patch of asphalt has cultivated. → Please sign and share the petition if you have yet to do so. Actually, if you read QS and haven’t signed it, please focus your board and computer. (And no, we haven’t heard an update back from Parks yet, but are hoping for some news this week.)

Dear Winter

Bad (obvious?) news out of the way first: Sadly continuing our recent bad habit of no Christmas clip for the year. Blame it on the weather, blame it on life, blame it on Instagram. Rest of the Year in Review countdown up shortly today, and still got a “Best of 2018” montage to upload ♥

Monster Children has a photo feature by Ben Colen with a bunch of shots from Supreme’s “BLESSED” video. Looking at those two Sage photos side-by-side is a nice visual cue.

Boil the Ocean began its annual countdown of the year’s ten best video parts, which is always a good source for some under the radar choices.

Figured we’d get one more “what the actual fuck” trick before the year was out.

I know what you’re thinking! “Oh no, not another podcast!” But but but, the difference here is that it is refreshing to hear a) a woman interview a pro skater, and b) a skateboarder have to dig a bit deeper than “how I came up” and tour stories to relay what they do to a non-skater. Listen to Jerry Hsu on the first episode of the “Dig” podcast.

Pretty much everyone who uses the #skatetwitter hashtag got together, wrote individual things about their favorite skater to watch in 2018, and nobody mentioned Tiago Lemos. Ok, guys.

Speaking of the best skaters, here’s an Ishod Wair x Michael Jordan remix.

Not local, but wow is this part great: Shogo Zama for VHS Mag. Japanese skaters have this particular ability to flow in lines that is unlike anything else out there.

Anomaly” via Skate Jawn is another entry in an already stacked roster of upstate New York vids to come out this year.

Every time I see footage of the Empire State Plaza spot, I feel a lil’ bit dumber for not taking the trip up there at least once this past summer. See it in “Frank & Ted’s 2018,” filmed pretty much all over the northeast and in Barcelona.

New York Related Stuff on Thrasher ICYMI: Frankie Spears’ part obvs has a bunch of clips from the city, and this “No Hotels” video does too. Hope Bob was ok with drop-in on the spot he found ;)

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: It’s so wild that Ron Baker gets cut from the Knicks, signed to another team despite sending all his shit from New York back to his hometown, and is now a Vegas favorite for 2019 NBA Finals MVP.

Quote of the Week
Zhu: “It’s hard for me to get in the habit of stretching.”
Conor: “Yeah, it’s hard for me to do anything…besides like, smoke weed.”

We don’t normally post gospel music on here, but felt it was appropriate for the holidays ♥
