Chicken For Gang

Ty Beall via Skate Jawn #68 and his part in Chrome Zone (2023), on account of New York moving towards discontinuing the green shed scaffolding, in favor of a less-ugly alternative. Can’t think of a ton of tricks on these things short of this and Jerry’s 5050 in Bag of Suck, but good riddance.

“I’m mainly happy that Tompkins is still there, it’s repaved, kids still go there, and it still has a similar vibe.” Slam City Skates has a pretty awesome longform interview with Sage Elsesser.

“Holllllyyyy shitttttt. Is that Jahmir? Yeah! And he’s making me listen to Bronze 56k Radio ALL DAY.” Jahmir Brown provides the guest mix on the latest installment of Bronze 56k Radio. The Graham Denver commercial is so fucking funny. 20 minute mark. Nooooo.

“It is odd that we don’t get as much titillating backroom gossip and news around brand roster additions, removals, and the like.” Simple Magic wrote about the diminishing splashes that come with skate brand roster moves in 2025. Probably just felt like more of a “thing” when skateboarding was smaller, no? A lot of people texted about Lil’ Dre though.

Jacob Rosenberg and Ted Barrow put up the first hour-and-a-half episode of their podcast Epicenter, which is entirely about the history of Embarcadero in San Francisco.

Our friend Alain Levitt was the latest guest on the Living Proof podcast + Arto Saari is the latest guest on The Bunt.

Was wondering what an inevitably rage-baiting attempt at a “new canon” would look like for skate videos, a la the Pitchfork 100 Best Rap Albums of all-time list, and it turns out, Passion of the Weiss did it 1:1 for rock albums in the spirit of every entry. For example: what’s the skate video version of Sexyy Red at #95 and Doggystyle at #100? People on Twitter said that’s like Welcome To Hell at #100 and Illegal Civ 2 at #95 and that’s kinda getting in the spirit of the exercise. What’s the skate video-equivalent of The Infamous / Black Sabbath’s Paranoid at #1? Flip Sorry? (Sorry O.Gs, Questionable or Video Days can’t be #1 the same way Illmatic can’t be #1 because it’s too tepid of a take.) But we also don’t think Rich Gang is ranked wrong (we’re Sexyy Red fans too), so wtf do we know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Something to explore for the impending less-busy months ;)

📅 A bunch of our Shorty’s alumn friends are throwing a Friendsgiving skate jam at the Hole Bowl in Newark this Saturday. Flyer here.

Spot Updates 📍 — Probably more symbolic than anything, as it had been phased from skater rotation even before they removed the outdoor seating, but Le Basket on Broadway is gone forever. Never realized it got profiled in the Times.

Loosies Corner 🚬 — A few minutes of Eetu loosies.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week 🏀 — Not sure how a Şengün pass hasn’t been on here yet.

Quote of the Week 🗣 “I remember that time we got it shakin’ at Union Square …I was dressed as Willy Wonka.” — Ty Lyons Recalling Scuffles of Yesteryear

If you see Pryce this week, tell him happy big day ❤️

  1. For the updated 100, Gangbanging at Ground Zero is the millennial Tim and Henry’s Pack of Lies

  2. just because a take is ‘tepid’ doesn’t mean it’s wrong

in fact it ceases to be a ‘take’
