Dead Mophie Society

A billboard above Popeye’s Ledge. A dream come true 🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂

Kind of knew this day was only a matter of time given how bad the cracks are getting. Community Board 3 held a meeting that laid out a plan for repaving Tompkins next summer. Though it is not a hard date just yet, it looks like the court we all skate will be closed for up to three months while the asphalt cures. Doesn’t seem like they are pulling any silly shit like they did with the turf in 2019. (But they are ending softball permits!) Shout out to the lady who pulled up to the meeting like, “How have you gone talking this long without mentioning the skaters?”

The official Thrasher recap is sure to drop mid-week like it does every time, but people on YouTube already compiled an eight-minute 2022 Dime Glory Challenge best-of.

Europe 2022: Carhartt WIP’s ‘Inside Out’ Video

Over the years, there has been a decent amount of QS discourse about “EuroTech™” and the successor to the seminal European skate document of the roaring 00’s: Lordz’ They Don’t Give A Fuck About Us video.

The irony, of course, is that EuroTech™ was finding itself bumped down into a smaller sub-genre of European skating throughout that same QS coverage — in favor of the type of cutty city-scouring practiced by the generation that came of age on “cherry”, and videos from Palace, Polar and GX.

Carhartt WIP’s first-ever full-length is full of names that will be familiar to anyone who supplements their Thrashersphere diet with videos from Free, Grey, Place, Solo, et al.

Life in the Slow Lane

Austyn Gillette by Andrew James Peters. 2011.

An interesting quarantine contest would be best rendition of Fred Gall’s phone call to Tony Hawk, which Boil the Ocean just transcribed for posterity purposes. That means comic book renderings, live action re-creations, claymation, anime, abstract art, whatever. Kinda like a skate version of The Simpsons “Steamed Hams” remixes. Yes? No? Do we call a Zoom meeting to figure out logistics?

“The only TV show I’ve been watching is FaceTime with Mitch B.” Will Marshall is the latest guest on The Bunt. Will has a tactful ability to almost *go there* but he never quite goes there, unless of course, you skate for Bones Wheels ♥

A Video For The Social Distancing Era: Carhartt WIP Social Remix

We all agree that conversations about Instagram are an egregious insult to our short time on earth. Yet, we cannot help ourselves. How do we crack the algorithm? How do we attain #maximum #exposure? How do we make a million dollars doing not that much, or at least get a follow-back from @emrata to give us a reason for getting up in the morning?

You’ve Gotta Love Sports!

Bills 3 Late Fee” is the new video from Angel Foseca and the crew up in The Bronx. Always a pleasure watching these videos that look and feel way different than so much of the other stuff coming out of the city.

If your heart doesn’t melt watching this… well, I don’t even know — Diego Meek (Dr. Scarecrow, et al.) put together a six-minute mini-doc about Skate After School, a program serving eight low-income elementary schools. “I painted it myself!” If you want a PSA about skateboarding at its purest and absolute best, this is it.

Naquan uploaded the 34-minute master file of Black Business b-sides.

Tompkins Square Park native son, Yaje Popson, is is the latest guest on the “Mission Statement” podcast.
