Josh Velez — ‘Just Josh’ Remix

Yesterday on QS was a day about celebrating our friends — those special people who bring such eternal warmth to our hearts.

Today, we’re doing the opposite. Like the psalm says, “Fuck everybody” ;)

Jk obvs.

But Josh and Eric Cruz did put together an express version of Josh’s “Quaranteam” part from last month, condensing it down to six minutes, with no footage of Josh’s stupid friends ♥

Happy Thanksgiving everybody, love y’all :)

Josh Velez’s Quaranteam Part

Anybody selling hard goods can attest to the “skateboard boom” that began in the lockdown months. People who had not picked up a board in years because life got in the way were buying new completes because, like, wtf else was there to do?

But what about those who never let life entirely get in the way of skating? For them, this past spring was a tidal wave of free time that no gainfully employed adult skateboarder thought they would experience until they were retired with bad knees. It was a pass to be 17 again, at least for a bit.

As outlined in 2019’s outing, Josh has been on a half-decade streak of filming parts mostly on his two days off from work a week. For a sizable chunk of 2020, there was no work, so this year’s is an extended edition — complete with cameos from some extended QS family members who haven’t popped up in an edit for deep.

Edited by Eric Cruz. Appearances from Connor Champion, Kevin Tierney, Troy Stilwell, Zach Baker, Kadeem Walters, Ty Lyons, Meatball, Ryan Santiago, Cyrus Bennett, Haffa, Antonio Durao, Ron Parker.

The 2019 Quartersnacks Year in Review: 25-16

2019 was a year where the the past was rousted up to contend with the future — we listened to new Max B off a DatPiff stream while acknowledging that our existence rests at the mercy of rats plotting a takeover of mankind. Jeremy Lin became an NBA champion, the Knicks lost the lottery, and the gods just laughed and laughed.

Here are the developments that loosely defined the past 12 months in New York skateboarding.

Past Editions: 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010

Who Got The Link?

“That has been my wallet since I got it from Alien in 1994.” If you are under the age of 25, Fred Gall’s wallet is older than you, as per the TWS “Skatehoarders” video where he runs through his board collection. Also a reminder that Freddy’s Bobshirt interview is still one of the best anthologies of skate storytelling from the past decade.

Sometimes, a good vibe is all you need :) “Ceelo Champs in the Field” is a really rad 13-minute video via a bunch of dudes out of Raleigh, North Carolina. It’s comforting to know that these types of close-knit friends videos will always exist (and have always existed) for as long as skateboarding does. There’s a decent bit of New York footage, too.

“Third Worst Video” is a fun edit by Lloyd Richards, filmed almost entirely in the city, and is def not the third worst video. Sk8rs ♥ that Tweet song.
