Once upon a time, a remix video was a bi-monthly occurrence on the pages of this website. But as the the floodgates of daily skate content opened, keeping up with all the Insta posts and raw files got exhausting; we left much of the remixing duties to the random YouTube accounts we follow, whose work we happily link each Monday when they happen to clock every Nik Stain and Vincent Touzery appearance.
Even so, the “Poolside” remix of Lucas Puig loosies circa 2014 has remained a personal favorite in the ol’ editing portfolio. This was before skateboarding on Instagram was what it is now, and some of the dubbing is way off, but it still feels like a skateboard fantasy sports season triumph.
Conor the lost Polar rider. Happy early birthday baby. Photo by Genesis Evans, who posted up a bunch of shots from the October 2018 Japan trip with everyone and everybody. Damn, miss traveling yo :(
“People always want to trap people in a box for what they’re good at.” Thrasher posted the audio of Tyshawn’s interview from their last issue, on the occasion of their “passing the torch” S.O.T.Y. feature.
If you can’t make it out on Saturday, don’t forget to help circulate the petition to keep turf off the asphalt at Tompkins Square Park. If you’re sharing any reflections or memories of what this park means to you on social media, please be sure to tag any posts with #savetompkins.
“One thing Jones has that a lot of pro skaters don’t is a bunch of hardheaded friends who are willing to bring city life to a halt for him.” Can’t imagine there’s a single person who reads QS that hasn’t already read Willy Staley’s incredible profile of Tyshawn Jones for The New York Times, but also don’t think anything else could justifiably be the first link this week.
“The further uptown you went, the quieter and more desolate it was. And the more you could get away with.” While on the topic of #MSM #skate #coverage — never knew about this 2005 New York Mag article about Andy Kessler and the original Zoo York crew of the 1970s-80s. (So nice that we have evolved and endured enough to avoid calling things “Dogtown East” now hehe.)
Thank you to everyone who purchased something from the webstore last week. We should be wrapping up with shipping orders next two days. If you haven’t received a shipping notification by Wednesday [to the email you ordered with], feel free to shoot us a message. Still some stuff left on there, and as always, at your local skate shop.
“Nobody’s Alley” might be the best LurkNYC video to date. Still with the VHS cam and a majority of footage in midtown and lower Manhattan. Although varial flips have been the “coming back” for half-a-decade now, between the ones in this video and Antoine’s in the Dime Vid, they might have entered a new dimension of 21st century form.
Something heartwarming about seeing Beer Bar footage in a 2016 skateboard video. Zach Moore’s Transplants part is now live, with a second-to-last trick at the place we wasted substantial early teenage years at :'(
This might be months old “news,” considering that with a heightened Columbus Circle bust, midtown motivation has been tough without some semblance of a safe bet, but the C-list midtown chain and pillar spot across from the Lipstick Building is no more.
Knew this would happen one day (everyone assumed Westgate would do it), but that doesn’t make it any less insane… Some Colombian on Natural Koncept ollied off the four stair and onto the manual pad at the Family Court building.
Bobshirt’s new interview with Puleo is great. First one in a long time that doesn’t make him sound like some crazy backwoods-dwelling cellar-door seeker.
Deck Aid / Bobshirt is having a show in Brooklyn on Saturday, with all proceeds going to Skateistan. They’ll be selling limited edition silkscreened prints of Keenan’s first graphic, signed by Sean Cliver :) Flyer here.
