QS x The World’s Best Griptape™ is a good home for your Christmas $ ❤️

For a more curated best of 2022 run-down than our crowd-sourced one, Boil the Ocean is in the midst of its annual top ten list of the year’s finest video parts. Jahmir ✅, Elijah ✅ and Diego ✅.

Simple Magic ran down a list of the year’s best skateboard writing. Shout out for the nod on Frozen in Carbonite’s griptape piece from June, and Ian Browning’s L.E.S. Park profile from August.

The Skate Muzik podcast also dropped its year-in-review podcast running through notable #musicsupervision selections from the past 12 months of skate videos. Shout out to the Louke Man song from the Limosine edit.

The Best Skate Videos & Parts of 2022 — QS Readers Poll Results

Ballot Count by 4Ply Magazine

It seems that the impossible has happened: we’ve tallied a QS Readers Poll, and there’s no Tom Knox in sight 😲😲😲

All jokes aside, beyond light output from Mr. Knox in 2022, this is perhaps the year that the multiple part approach wielded by S.O.T.Y. hopefuls began to adapt itself to people’s recollections of the past twelve months. Whereas in past years, when multiple releases tended to split the vote in clear favor of one over another, 50% of this year’s Top 20 parts are from the same five people.

Also worth noting that the point spread between slot #14 and slot #10 for single parts was four points. Maybe we introduce a runoff feature next year ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The #1 video was a landslide.

If you are just joining us, this ranking was voted on by QS readers from December 5th to December 9th

Tried To Tell Them It Was Boot Season

Listen to the soothing sounds of Nick Boserio’s voice — like light rain on a windowpane or cascading waves — for over an hour on the latest episode of The Bunt. Bar-none one of the best people you could have on a skate trip ❤️

This is really sick of The LA Times to do: The Oral History of the Hollywood High 16, with stories from many of the names most closely associated with the spot. (#lol at the visible QS sticker on the headline photo.) Can’t wait for The New York Times to do the oral history of the Courthouse Drop.

Our buddy Max Hull uploaded “I’M HERE,” his short submitted to the New York Bicycle Film Festival, onto his YouTube. Not skate-related obvs, but a very simple yet beautiful story :) “We outside, not inside.”

File under: No way you haven’t see this yet, right? Cyrus, Nick Matthews and Mason Silva pay tribute to Keith Hufnagel covertly + overtly in the new HUF x Nike SB edit.

“I grew up thinking that skaters are just skaters. They just do what they do, not like, ‘Oh this guy has got spiked hair and a choker, let’s get him on.'” Jenkem interviewed Josh Wilson about coming up and growing up ❤️

All These Damn Plugs and Young Takeoff I’m the Socket

Feel like this should’ve been on the repost circuit way heavier… On Friday, Stussy dropped an eight-minute promo by Antosh Cimoszko featuring what amounts to small parts’ worth of footage from Aaron Loreth, Diego Todd, Jesse Alba and Hugo Boserup + appearances from others.

Also related: A few minutes of Diego Todd loosies.

The Halloween Stickers crew dropped HSS2 last week. No full Liam McCabe part, but that FedEx line is absolutely fucking insane. Not sure if anybody has done two flip tricks down the sixes before.
