Let’s get through the remaining year-end stuff and not talk about it ever again: 1) Adjacency Bias dropped their top five 2024 videos from the Pacific Northwest skate scene. 2) Simple Magic assesses an array of very specific 2024 skateboarding predictions that were made a year ago, now that the year closed out. 3) Boil the Ocean’s #1 part of 2024 didn’t make the QS Readers Poll top 20, but it definitely should have.
Andrew Miami videographer Zoogie dropped a six-minute New Year’s edit featuring Sully Cardenas, Stafhon Boca, Coles Bailey, Elijah Odom and many more familiar faces. Gabe’s noseslide at the Fifth Avenue Apple Store might legit be the second or third clip anyone has ever got there on account of the security.
Solid batch of New York clips in Ish Cepeda’s new part for his Gas Giants imprint, plus the #1 from last week’s Top 10, though that one’s def not in New York ;)
Gino Iannucci’s favorite movie is actually Francis Ford Coppola’s favorite of his own movies, as told to Slam City Skates in the latest Gino edition of their “Offerings” series, where a skater recommends books, films, records, etc.
Nelly Morville dropped a new iPhone edit featuring various winter lurkage throughout the city’s skateparks. Foot felt cold watching that intro.
Tyshawn and the Hardies crew hit Korea and Japan and came back with this edit. Stands to reason that you’re going to keep hearing “Viking” in skate edits for the first half of this year.
Skate Bylines spoke to master lensman Geoff Campbell about the art of choosing music for skate videos, and more specifically, the storied usage of Kate Bush in skate videos.
A quick Borough Hall edit from the youth. That ender should be in the frontside flip video.
Tao also dropped a New Year’s edit featuring a who’s who of the Copenhagen x Malmø scenes.
Skate Jawn‘s international “100€ Chill” continues with Quentin Boillon spending $103 USD equivalent around République.
Theories brought back their “Raw Tapes” series, this time from a St. Louis and Chicago stint while filming for Static VI.
Non-Skate Related Alert 🚨 — If you’re one of the many like me who want to read The Power Broker, but perpetually put it in your “one day…when I’m retired on a beach with my beloved”-pile, 99% Invisible‘s 12-episode Power Broker breakdown was one of the best pieces of media from 2024, and this is coming from someone that wouldn’t identify as a “podcast person.” It’s about ~30 hours worth of audio, but it’s the next best thing to reading it, at least for now.
Loosies Corner 🚬 — All of Kerry Getz’s 411VM appearances in one place, and this one that’ll certainly bring you back to a very specific time online: all of Joey Pepper’s HUF commercials.
QS Sports Desk Play of the Week 🏀 — Steph’s behind-the-back floater was so insane that even K.D. dapped him up after.
Quote of the Week 🗣 “The year of dabbing was the best.” — Phil Lavoie
How about wrapping the first Monday Links of 2025 with a …2025 Paul Wall banger, baby! Yeah, I’m laughing too, but it is what it is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
quarter snacks: where one goes to read about the power broker, sahbabi, kate bush, francis coppolla, gino, tyshawn and paul wall all in one place.
