“Interstate” is a sick eight-minute video by Spencer Newman and the youngs, based around Stamford, CT, but with a good bit of New York footage in it. Yelled at the screen @ the slam on that new brick thing by Domino Park + it’s heartwarming to see the “Sphere” [Gold & Platt by CIA Ledge] endure through two decades of homie videos. Titles are coming back, baby!

“If you’re listening to all this hip-hop, why the fuck are you editing your videos to Joy Division?” Farran Golding profiled Paul Young for Closer as he was winding up production on Down By Law + included a video supplement on the art of selecting music for skate videos.

You know how our twisted reality had to adopt the widespread use of “not The Onion” because real-life gradually surpassed parody? Sometimes it feels like these 2020s skate spots are experiencing the same thing, only relative to their resemblance to a Brother Merle illustration. You really gotta hand it to skateboarders for continuing try to and make the Chinatown Banks “work” for 20+ years.

“Calling It There” is a New Haven, CT-based video by Mead Franz with a good chunk of NYC clips. It feels like the Virtual Reality Bump has been popping up in more homie edits lately? Makes sense, since it’s probably been out of fashion for ~ten-ish years and you know how cycles go. Also, dude sliding down that rock bank in BPC kinda-sideways was crazy.

Love all of K-Rod’s crazy tricks obvs, but seeing Kevin Rodrigues do “normal” ol’ ledge tricks [sturdy back tail, back noseblunt pop-out…] is almost jarring to the expectations. K-Rod, Hjalte, and Dino XL (!) in this Copenhagen trip edit by Nico.

“It’s not, ‘I don’t know man, I was just skating.’ That answer drives me nuts.” Our correspondent Farran Golding recently launched what he dubs as the skate-version of Longform.org: Skate Bylines. It is a new platform that aggregates and features works of skateboard journalism, rather than focusing 98% on video, like many of us do. Skate Bylines also creates unique pieces of its own, with the first feature being an interview with Chops from Chromeball about his interview process with history’s most legendary skaters. Also, R.I.P. Longform, but long live Longreads. Haven’t gotten on a flight without loading up the reading list with Longreads links in 10+ years. 🫡
