You may have noticed that the entire school of which 12th & A is a part of has been completely fenced off. Well, the building is not condemned, like many had assumed. (There were rumors of a developer trying to get the school off the land in order to build condos some years back.) There is a structural defect on the eastern wall (12th & A is on the west side of the building), and the Board of Ed. had to temporarily close the school in order to administer emergency repairs. You can’t skate there for now, but hopefully, the spot remains when it’s re-opened.

It looks like summer now ends on Columbus Day instead of Labor Day. There’s a place you could go this winter, though. Cut back on the bars and start saving now.

Late, but Ice Cream rebooted their skate team with a few kids who have been ripping around New York these past few years. Not sure about Easter egg colored shoes, but new footage of Andre Beverley, Stephan Martinez and Jamel Marshall is always welcome.

Did Paulgar re-do his look to land some street style shots on menswear blogs?

Here’s an all-night MCVX montage. They skate Crosby Street and seem to be in favor bringing back skateboarding to the front of Union Square, something that has been on a consistent decline since summer 2004.

Fabian Alomar is currently facing 26-to-life in jail as part of California’s “three strikes” law (his “third strike” was a non-violent offense.) DGK released four minutes of largely unseen footage, claiming it would have been his Menace video part, had it actually ever come out. If Fabian has four minutes of footage, there’s got to be other people with unseen clips. Why don’t they just go ahead and release the entire “Menace Video?” Better 17-years-late than never. For now, DGK is selling tees with 100% of the proceeds going to Fabian’s legal fees.

One of the most beloved curbs in lower Manhattan (as seen in those Skate NYC clips from the late-80s and Aaron Szott’s Lurkers 2 section) is no more.

Attempting to out-do the infamous MTA montage, the Mandible Claw crew put out a “Rush Hour” clip centered around skitching, and skating on motor vehicles. Considering there are no Jackie Chan or Chris Tucker cameos, they should’ve just named this “Arrest me, please.” Cops seem pretty content to kick people’s asses for no real reason these days, so God bless Colin and the rest of the crew for risking themselves for our entertainment.

The underground king of Queens, Rob Campbell, has a new “Day in the Life” clip up for his company, New Breed skateboards.

Will skateboarders ever get tired of editing things to songs from Jeru the Damaja’s first album? Probably not. Back tail stall at the Bubble Banks is real sick though, and Future’s debut album, Pluto, drops on 01/31/12.

In an effort to remedy “soft music” criticisms stemming from their first throwaway clip, the “Death Video” crew called upon the services of Cameron Giles and put out an “ignorant edit” promo. Why would anyone want to ollie off that small hut at the Queensboro Bridge downhill ledges?

Late, but insane: You apparently cannot skate the Thomas Greene Park spot (a place designated built for skateboarding) unless you are accompanying a small child. Good to know that the NYPD has its priorities in order when it comes to Brooklyn.

Events: 1) If you’re into art and stuff, the Gonz is having an exhibition of photos and illustrations from the past year starting tomorrow and lasting through January 7. 2) The Shake Junt video premieres at KCDC this Sunday. 3) Jeremy Elkin’s new, NYC-based video, Poisonous Products premieres tomorrow at 74A East 4th Street at 8:30 P.M. Flyer here.

Spot Updates: 1) Who’s the genius that decided to knob the ledges — yes, the ledges — at Brick Nine? “Why are they still skating here? I thought they were supposed to stop skating?” 2) You obviously can’t skate World Trade anymore because of the protests, but Chase is also blocked off on account of them.

Skateboarding v.s. The MTA

Ever since we saw the original Zoo York crew sessioned the descending ramp connecting the A, C, & E to the L at 14th Street in the Mixtape credits, skating inside subway stations seemed like a lot of fun. (Perhaps even more fun than it actually was.) Then, Indoor Ten came around, and people started hucking themselves down that, risking a $100 summons, a board confiscation, and potentially getting your ass kicked by an angry Times Square cop stuck in a precinct with little to no action throughout the year, with Easter probably being the main exception. Subway skating hasn’t excelled much since, at least until this new clip for Slap by Colin Read, featuring Piro Sierra, Kenji Nakahira, Ryan Barlow, and Connor Kammerer. The fact that they left without a summons or a baton to the head is absolutely incredible.

Whether or not this will end up with 100K+ views like many of the other infamous MTA moments to make it on the internet this year remains to be seen, but it’s the best skate clip to go online in a long time.

There’s Always Next Year

We kept wishing 1999 would show up. 2010-2011 was a good building block of a season. The future doesn’t look as dim as we’ve grown to expect it.

Let’s get the most important news out of the way: Soulja Boy is set to remake Juice, the 1992 film starring Tupac and Omar Epps. Somewhere deep in his subconscious, Giglotti’s hip-hop side is screaming blasphemy. Cam’ron is said to have a role in the ambitious remake, but his track record with completing motion pictures is somewhat iffy. In other words, what happened to Cousin Bang?

Ladies and gentlemen, here is Theodore Barrow skating Stoner Park.

Haven’t skated Jersey City in quite some time, so perhaps this is a bit late, but there’s a new medium-sized gap right next to that building on Second Street and the Hudson River with all the [knobbed] step-up ledges.

You have no doubt seen Ty Evans’ video with a pair of twelve-year-old twins being better at skateboarding than the entire tri-state area if it were combined into one person, but something about it screams for a “Grove Street Party” re-edit. Perhaps even some Pastor Troy.

A friend is casting for a full-length film he is doing, which happens to require people who can actually skateboard for their roles. Go here for more info on the film, and a breakdown of the available roles. It’s the sort of thing that probably requires acting abilities, unlike most skateboarder “castings” in New York. Basically, not like that “All the girls standing in line for the bathroom” video shoot, when they told you to “dress like a skater…wear a flannel,” and it ended early because someone got stabbed.

Not sure who put this together, but it’s a straight-foward 23 minutes of (mostly) New York skating, with no annoying songs, and many Flipmode favorites. Should be enough to get you through the early part of the week.

Here’s the Mandible Claw New York section / intro from the crew’s new video. If people start treating that ledge through the keyhole at Saint Vincent’s as an actual spot, we will reach a new, even more absurd height in terms of “what’s considered a ‘spot'” in New York.

Never really been into Skate Talk, but here’s a compilation of the Antwuan Dixon, “fresh out of jail” episode. Subject matter and slang editorials make it interesting.
