S.F. in Budapest — Rios Crew + Loophole Wheels’ ‘PURÓ’ Video

While discussing recent travels with a skater who could be described as occupying your-favorite-skater’s-favorite-skater territory, this particular individual happened to mention the tough time he had skating in Budapest, Hungary. Before I could even say it, he interjected with something along the lines of: “Those Rios Crew spots are spots for the Rios Crew.”

This was meant in the most complimentary way imaginable. This city-defining crew that has reigned over Budapest’s spots for over a decade had sharpened its sights and approaches in such a fine-tuned way that the shit they skate is largely unnavigable to the visiting skater.

But some skate crew link-ups are written in the stars.

“What kind of person looks at a dusty construction site, shoved under a bridge and controlled by a seemingly impregnable bureaucracy, and thinks: This is a perfect space for a park?” Skaters, for one. Glad she’s onboard, though was reading this Times profile of the woman trying to turn the space under the Brooklyn Bridge (Manhattan side) into a giant park and wondering — how has it taken this long to mention skaters? Because, you know. (They do, halfway in.)

Loophole Wheels Presents: Dustin Eggeling & Mark Humienik’s ‘2nd Visions’ Part

Zach Chamberlin and the urethane purveyors at Loophole Wheels recently premiered a new full-length video called 2nd Visions. They were kind enough to share Dustin Eggeling and Mark Humienik’s shared section in their latest — two easterners wading their way through Bay Area inclines and cutty patches of crust, with a few New York clips peppered through. Our noseslide awards have been spotty over the past couple of years, but that one inside the planter that Mark does is sure to be in contention if there’s budget for a Noseslider of the Year ceremony later in 2024…

In case you missed them, Grey shared Andréa Dupré & Guillaume Nozieres’ shared part last week (that tre flip nose manny should’ve probably been on Top 10…) and Free shared Hiroki Muroka’s part a couple months back.

Lousy Smarch Weather

E.J. with 2018 gang by Keith Denley

Johnny Wilson chatted with Heckride about some of the backstories behind John’s Vid, and the virtues of not building public anticipation to an upcoming project.

“[Keith] saw that we had skateboards and asked if we wanted to skate his ‘run.’ This ‘run’ was a planned-out continuous route of spots he’d hit on a daily basis. You had to skate it fast and without stopping because there was traffic, open businesses, pedestrians and security guards — who knew Keith would be pushing through at some point after 3 P.M. when school was out.” Thrasher has an incredible retrospective feature that recounts stories from many of Huf’s closest friends.
