This is a great news. Big congratulations to Rob Campbell and best wishes for his future role as the director of skateboarding for Open Road.

Joseph Delgado’s part from the Poisonous Products video is now on YouTube. All lines, and some Lil’ Kim on the soundtrack. Good to see Queens locals still skating actual Flushing and not just the Maloof Park. (While on the topic: has anyone skated to “Drugs” before? It’s easy to forget that Lil’ Kim somehow ended up getting one of the greatest rap beats of all time. These dudes did it way more justice though.)

Stupid Slap Message Board Thread #588,684,693: “Most hipster skate parts?” Humorously enough, they post Brett Nelson’s Rich Mahogany part, then go on to say Brett Land’s part is more “hipster”-ish. Then, the topic diverges into how Cardiel’s Sight Unseen part isn’t as good as everyone says it is…

If you ever skate Tompkins, you’ll recognize a handful of people with parts in this 21-minute iPhone video from John Kim.

The goal of QS is to eventually transition from a skateboard website into a chain of strip club skateparks throughout the south. We have fifty-page business plans and everything, but it looks like DGK’s “Playground” park beat us to it. Back to square one.

Spot Updates: 1) You may have noticed that some bandits cut off the rail at FedEx a few weeks ago. Well, it’s back. 2) Similar story…some bandits unknobbed the Dag 10-stair ledge, a tree fell on it, scaffolding blocked it off, and now it’s knobbed again. 3) There’s a food truck at Lenox now. Interesting that it takes a food truck to exemplify how oblivious people are to getting in the way of skateboard-related pursuits.


TM103 drops tomorrow. It actually exceeded expectations, which weren’t that high. “Ballin’” and the Neyo song are pure garbage though.

Nothing happens in August. There are even guides on how to look busy at work in August. The same applies for skate media. You’ll have to pardon some of the inclusions if they are not of the “breaking news” variety…

R.I.P. éS Footwear. Though not as heavily romanticized as the Koston 1s and 2s, the 3s were big in New York back in 2001-2002. In further influence, Menik Mati was pretty much the Jaws of skate videos, in that it provided the blueprint for blockbuster skate video productions for over ten years, a format that is only now beginning to wane. Here is Boil the Ocean on that same subject (#25.)

W.T.T.B: Watch the Tompkins Bench

Frozen in Carbonite on hypothetical “Song of the Summer” / “Video Part of the Summer” combinations. Surprisingly, that Katy Perry song hasn’t received much burn in New York. Or we’re just not hitting da club enough. Kelly’s getting the month early S.O.T.S. vote, but slow jams might actually be disqualified from that category altogether. (We cannot vote for anything involving Rick Ross or Drake.)

New part from Javier Sarmiento and Jesus Fernandez. It may not be up there with this certified masterpiece (described by Charles Lamb as a guide to all the right tricks to do in street skateboarding), but any new footage from that duo is always welcome.

The Japan-based Lafayette crew visited New York a while back and put together these two clips. Cameos from Rob Campbell, Joseph Delgado, and Akira, wearing a neon-tinged contender for skate outfit of the year.

Spot Updates: 1 – The St. John’s Hospital Banks on Queens Boulevard have been blocked off for construction (thanks to Tracy for the tip.) 2 – They decided that the Grace Ledge was too good of a skate spot, so they threw it back under construction. 3 – A spot that many little kids held dear to their hearts, the Water Street “S” Gap, has been torn down. Taji is reportedly putting together a 20-minute retrospective for VBS. Fifteen years later, Huf’s ollie up 360 flip in the Mixtape credits is still the best trick to go down on it.

Stevie Wonder, Stevie Wonder…

Unidentifiable QS member caught at a rendezvous in front of the Strip Club Ledge with a short young lady, proceeding a wild night at Westway. In other socialite gossip, Quartersnacks might have the highest volume of OK Cupid members on its roster compared to any other skate crew. Guess which three and win a date with Matt Mooney.

We’ve been away for the better half of two weeks (no Monday links last week), so some of these may not be so new to those that have spent the past two weeks on the internet…

Missing Persons is a sick little New York based video, with a jazzy retro vibe and some solid local skating. Originally only released on VHS, but now available on YouTube in full. You already know that there is nothing held in a higher regard than night footage within the Quartersnacks Book of Aesthetic Guidelines, so give it a whirl before you leave the house for a late session.

Paulgar recently dropped a seven minute digi-cam clip featuring Brian Delatorre, Ted Barrow, and others.

Steve Nash skates to the ball courts in Battery Park every morning to practice his shot. Those sound like real wheels too, not soft cruiser wheels. Can we please figure out a way for this dude to finish his career off in New York? Or better yet, a (non-Miami) team with an actual chance to win a title in the next three years? No other NBA vet deserves a ring more.

The Washington Mutual / Grand and Graham spot in Williamsburg is done for. The bank installed rails in front of the two inclines. They saved a wall in a parking lot from getting black marks on it…what a great use of money. Spotted via Hella Trill.

It’s going to be seventy-five degrees today. There’s a theory going around that the new Tompkins box is responsible for warmer weather patterns. The Real video is premiering at KCDC and available for purchase as well. It’s very good.

As the iPhone has risen to be one of the more prominent video devices in the world of skateboarding, it seems relevant to post this infographic of all of the rumors (and their respective likelihood) surrounding new features on the iPhone 5. Full 1080p HD video recording, a 8Mpx digital camera, and maybe the potential 64GB model would really be the only things to benefit our cause. But all of that is merely speculation. Meanwhile, whoever dreamt up a 3D display on a cell phone is an idiot.

Josh Stewart re-edited Brian Delatorre’s ender part in the M.I.A. video to a shorter length, and to the sounds of some 70s sounding rock, as opposed to the hysteric Hindu chants in the original. Welcome to M.I.A. came out in late 2010 (all the publications and blogs had already distributed “best of the year” accolades at that point), so it carries over into 2011, thus Dela’s part will definitely be in consideration for one of the finer instances of skateboarding in the past year.

A set of six original Wu-Tang skateboards is on eBay, and it starts at $950 with a $1,400 Buy-It-Now price. No Ghostface board though. When will an enterprising skateboarder pitch the idea for Brick Squad Skateboards to Gucci? Can’t wait to roll through Tompkins and see some kid holding a Wooh Da Kid or OJ Da Juiceman pro model.

Speaking of Wu-Tang, here’s Billy Rohan skating in black leather Wallabees in the new “Diamond Days” clip.

Speaking of Brick Squad, have you seen the “Grove Street Party” video with the talking Fozzie Bear chain yet? Every time there’s one random white guy in the background of a rap video, I hope it’s Sweet Waste.

Adding insult to injury, they even managed to knob the rails at Ziegfeld. Fairly useless, and certainly negligible, but whatever. You can move the planters with two people, by the way. Push them off the steps if you do.

Already Been Done #4 coming on Tuesday, April 12.

Last but not least, rest in peace Sidney Lumet, one of the great New York filmmakers. Serpico, Network, Dog Day Afternoon, etc. are all obvious, but watch Prince of the City if you enjoy New York movies. You need an attention span for it, but it’s definitely one of the best cop films out there.
