Bronze ‘Solo Jazz’ is Now Online

Monday links are getting postponed until tomorrow because the Bronze video is online and it deserves its own post.

The most beloved New York City video franchise is back with its latest installment. Solo Jazz features many new names making their first-time, full-length appearance in a Bronze production: Dick Rizzo, Josh Wilson, Aaron Herrington and Jason Carroll. Though they may dilute the collective’s deep Queens origins, their skateboard abilities only add to the excellence of this six (arguably eight) film franchise. Mainstays like Shawn Powers, Kevin Tierney, Derick Zeimkiewicz, Joseph Delgado, and Billy McFeely came through with wonderful sections, despite prior commitments that range from sponsorships to Polish espionage. Fan favorite, Phil Rodriguez, was sorely missed due to injury, and longtime followers of the franchise were surely shocked to learn that Solo Jazz has the unfortunate distinction of being the first Bronze video where Xavier Veal does not show up and at least 5050 some large handrail :(

Buy some Bronze tees and a hard copy of the video to support funding for the upcoming Billy Lynch documentary.

P.S. Johnny Wilson’s new project, Beef Patty, premiered the other night and it was really, really good. Loose Trucks Max has the ender. Hopefully, it makes its way online soon.

P.P.S. Colin Read’s new video, Tengu, premieres at the Sunshine Theater (Forsyth and Houston, where the Pretty Sweet premiere was) on Thursday, August 29th. Doors open at 8:30. Flyer here. So, there’s the potential of there being three great New York-based projects available in a week’s span. Looks like a solid end of the summer.

In recent times, many have opted to fetishize VHS. The new Flipmode video went another route, and mined the 90s for every other piece of technological nostalgia, devising a Amazon Women on the Moon-esque concoction of early-internet imagery, late night TV channel guides, Jordan-era NBA clips, Baywatch?, and uh, mixtape drops. 56k loves the 90s, but is less fond of the 2000s. The only nod to the previous decade is a tasteful reutilization of perhaps the only great song to ever be in an EST video. And if you were to base a drinking game around taking a shot every time someone skates a spot on the island of Manhattan in this video, you’d end up taking around ten shots. Features Phil Rodriguez, Billy McFeely, Adrian Vega, Matt Daniels, Kevin Tierney, Shawn Powers, Joseph Delgado, Rob Gonyon, and guest tricks from others. Whether or not Bronze is an actual “company” has yet to be determined.

You can buy 56k on DVD, along with the past three Flipmode videos (Trife, Sognar, and Caviar) included on the same disc. $10 + $2 shipping, so it’s stupid not to.

This is a great news. Big congratulations to Rob Campbell and best wishes for his future role as the director of skateboarding for Open Road.

Joseph Delgado’s part from the Poisonous Products video is now on YouTube. All lines, and some Lil’ Kim on the soundtrack. Good to see Queens locals still skating actual Flushing and not just the Maloof Park. (While on the topic: has anyone skated to “Drugs” before? It’s easy to forget that Lil’ Kim somehow ended up getting one of the greatest rap beats of all time. These dudes did it way more justice though.)

Stupid Slap Message Board Thread #588,684,693: “Most hipster skate parts?” Humorously enough, they post Brett Nelson’s Rich Mahogany part, then go on to say Brett Land’s part is more “hipster”-ish. Then, the topic diverges into how Cardiel’s Sight Unseen part isn’t as good as everyone says it is…

If you ever skate Tompkins, you’ll recognize a handful of people with parts in this 21-minute iPhone video from John Kim.

The goal of QS is to eventually transition from a skateboard website into a chain of strip club skateparks throughout the south. We have fifty-page business plans and everything, but it looks like DGK’s “Playground” park beat us to it. Back to square one.

Spot Updates: 1) You may have noticed that some bandits cut off the rail at FedEx a few weeks ago. Well, it’s back. 2) Similar story…some bandits unknobbed the Dag 10-stair ledge, a tree fell on it, scaffolding blocked it off, and now it’s knobbed again. 3) There’s a food truck at Lenox now. Interesting that it takes a food truck to exemplify how oblivious people are to getting in the way of skateboard-related pursuits.


TM103 drops tomorrow. It actually exceeded expectations, which weren’t that high. “Ballin’” and the Neyo song are pure garbage though.

Unidentifiable QS member caught at a rendezvous in front of the Strip Club Ledge with a short young lady, proceeding a wild night at Westway. In other socialite gossip, Quartersnacks might have the highest volume of OK Cupid members on its roster compared to any other skate crew. Guess which three and win a date with Matt Mooney.

We’ve been away for the better half of two weeks (no Monday links last week), so some of these may not be so new to those that have spent the past two weeks on the internet…

Missing Persons is a sick little New York based video, with a jazzy retro vibe and some solid local skating. Originally only released on VHS, but now available on YouTube in full. You already know that there is nothing held in a higher regard than night footage within the Quartersnacks Book of Aesthetic Guidelines, so give it a whirl before you leave the house for a late session.

Paulgar recently dropped a seven minute digi-cam clip featuring Brian Delatorre, Ted Barrow, and others.

Steve Nash skates to the ball courts in Battery Park every morning to practice his shot. Those sound like real wheels too, not soft cruiser wheels. Can we please figure out a way for this dude to finish his career off in New York? Or better yet, a (non-Miami) team with an actual chance to win a title in the next three years? No other NBA vet deserves a ring more.
