Just as many Americans are still recovering from 2008’s financial meltdown, skateboarding is apparently still reeling from the collapse of Alien Workshop 1.0, as evidenced in Yaje Popson’s latest interview with Transworld, and Jake Johnson’s [extended] one with Thrasher. Also note to anyone about to log off and head to D7: “I think I really messed my body up jumping down stuff when I was younger and my body was still growing. If I could give advice I’d say don’t jump down stuff until you’re older.”

Following the first 60-degree Sunday of 2016, noseslide 270 shuv outs have not gained any momentum at a projected resurgence. However, Ron Deily makes a good case for lowbrow frontside 270 out of noseslide tech in the new Zoo in S.F. clip.

Thrasher recently entered the arena of YouTube comps with a five-minute compilation of the greatest handrail tricks, but shouldn’t Gonz’s boardslide down the Banks 9 + his 5050 and front board down the [defunct] 8th & Greene Street rail from the (1986?) Vision video be the first thing? Weren’t those supposedly the first handrail tricks? Is the idea of handrail skating being born in New York akin to pointing out that Christopher Columbus didn’t actually discover America?!

Just realized this QS feature from a year-old issue of Acclaim mag is online. Was kinda the blueprint / draft for the intro of the actual Quartersnacks book.

Late one today. Weather got things sluggish.

“My last name is Baker, so this is called The Baker Video.” Good friend and breaker of four boards in one session, Zach Baker, made a fun skateboard video.

Life is Goodie is dropping on 4/20 fool.

“Rob [Dyrdek] told me, ‘Look, dude, there’s gonna be no pro skaters in the next…I see in the future no pro boards.'” Ride has a great interview with Josh Kalis about China, standalone video parts, GX1000, a declining middle class in skateboarding, and a future with no boards. ICYMI: Hit You Off Management dropped a “Kalis in Mono” remix last week, mentioned in the interview’s first question.

Sorta on that note, Village Psychic got an interview with the dudes who run Mood Skateboards, a company with no team. “In the 80s and 90s, pro skaters were the best at skating, but now everyone is the best. The ‘need’ for professionals isn’t the same.” It’s gonna be a really weird next couple of years, man.

It hasn’t been the best for productivity, but is really fun to reminisce on the drunken world of the early millennium that most of us had yet to experience (still recognized the venue for the “goddess” party though hehehehe…) The two New York episodes are here and here. Seeing Michael Mackrodt skate in real life is genuinely one of the most impressive things you could ever witness in skateboarding. His consistency and quick footedness is absurd (personal top 3 most impressive IRL pros.) The next best thing is seeing him skate on video, via this new all-lines part filmed out in the Parisian suburbs. (He also had a New York “Fishing Lines” part in 2010, in case you didn’t know.)

Despite all its frustrations, midtown is still the funnest.

The DVD also includes Beef Patty. 2) Living up to the “Most Productive Crew” trademark, those dudes already have another video on the way. 3) It’s mad sad that the VX is dead yo.

SMLTalk listi-cized their five favorite friends sections. A notable snub / personal favorite is the one at the end of Mixtape, which pretty much nails the vibe you want any friends montage to have, not to mention features maybe the second best 360 flip ever done. Also, the Blind section from Virtual Reality belongs there off G.P. Mariano’s trick is incredible no matter what decade you’re talking about.

Went up to Canada for the holiday weekend, hence Monday Links are, um, “going up” on a Tuesday :( As you may tell from the photo above, it did not go great.

Josh Stewart remixed Kevin Tierney’s Static IV part with some alternate angles, different tricks, and a new song. Try and find a recent New York-based part where someone skates an old spot in a new way as many times as Kev does. One of the best and most original parts of the year, for sure.

Obviously this piece was meant to highlight more sophisticated maneuvers, but how exactly could one “appreciate” the Chinese ollie without mentioning Ben Sanchez?

A Javier Sarmiento part filmed in maybe two days with bad editing and filming worse than what’s expected of a Quartersnacks clip is still better than pretty much anything. Dude’s going to be 50 one day, still looking cooler than anyone on a skateboard.

Ripped Laces put together a #listicle of the best pedestrian v.s. skateboarder interactions from skate videos. “That’s why you should skate in the street: to meet weirdos.” That rationale has also been used to justify riding MTA trains, but the frustrations might outweigh the entertainment.

Well, now we know that Bobby Shmurda’s rise to stardom will coincide with a plethora of applicable #musicsupervision choices for Bobby Worrest re-edits. Also, here’s some B-side clips of Bobby from the 2000s, several of which look unfamiliar.
