Quick thirty second Hardbody commercial with Antonio + Hjalte is giving video magazine ad vibes. Told E.J. this was too short, and his response was, “Well, the last video was too long.” New Hardbody stuff live on their shop + your local.

“Interstate” is a sick eight-minute video by Spencer Newman and the youngs, based around Stamford, CT, but with a good bit of New York footage in it. Yelled at the screen @ the slam on that new brick thing by Domino Park + it’s heartwarming to see the “Sphere” [Gold & Platt by CIA Ledge] endure through two decades of homie videos. Titles are coming back, baby!

“If you’re listening to all this hip-hop, why the fuck are you editing your videos to Joy Division?” Farran Golding profiled Paul Young for Closer as he was winding up production on Down By Law + included a video supplement on the art of selecting music for skate videos.

Leo Heinert’s Blitz Jam series hosted an impromptu skate jam at Flushing last week, and a bunch of wild shit went down. Really sick seeing people huck down the six, which feels like it hasn’t seen a ton of action since they renovated it over COVID. Brandon has got to go back for that 360 flip — that was wild.

Hypebeast paid a visit to Carpet Company HQ in Baltimore, and came back with a video exploring the two brothers’ creative and production process.

Soo Saxton is back with Gabe Shah for another six minute part filmed entirely in New York. You can feel the cold through the screen in some of those clips.

Pants, as an article of clothing and a philosophical entity, dominate the skate zeitgeist. They consume the daily banter on #skatetwitter, inspired an Instagram account dedicated to IDing them, and have the potential to become the most controversial item of one’s kit. Pants factions line up like the gangs at the beginning of The Warriors — Dickies disciples, nineties enthusiasts, Polar people, and so on.

So began our quest to investigate — not so much the what of pants — but the why. To accomplish this goal, we interviewed four skaters over a generational spectrum and asked the same set of questions.

As we stitched together the interviews, one common thread stood out: Like everything else in 2020, one’s choice of pants is a political act.
