In the summer of 2026, an exhibition on the history of skateboarding at London’s Southbank Undercroft took place in a subterranean venue next to the world-renowned spot. In this corner beneath the Queen Elizabeth Hall, which was once part of the Undercroft itself, short films from communities connected to Southbank’s past and present played on loop. They were directed by and featured skateboarders the spot had incubated: the professionals whose careers it has been intrinsic to, the filmmakers whose archives present an ethnography of the area, the 100-strong crew of skate moms who meet regularly, and an atmospheric work by Lev Tanju, the founder and creative director of a generational entity born out of the brutalist landmark: Palace Skateboards.

As you might have read on this platform, travel is huge these days. Along these lines, this summer traveled hard as fuck. I drove to Myrtle Beach not once, but twice – shoutout Kenny Powers. I vibed out at the Outer Banks for a week. And most importantly, I bookended summer 2024 with two trips to New York [Fuckin’] City. The second, you can read about here. The first one was my annual sober-versary trip. When booking the hotel, I made sure to get a place with one of those rooftop pools. I mean, you never know – east coast weather is crazy [like]; in early April, it could be 85 or a blizzard might attack the city.

There is no middle ground.

“When the news first broke about the Malmö project using materials from LOVE, the reporting made it seem as though all the materials that were salvaged were going overseas, so there was some damage control needed there. The reality was that it was only a relatively small amount of granite that made it to Sweden – some tiles and some blocks. All the most significant features were never going to leave Philadelphia.” Free got the full tale of the Love Park marble being taken to Malmö and incorporated into a public plaza.

For Fuck’s Sake: The Tompkins construction start date has been moved …again. October 16th. Going to stop posting these every week from here on out. It starts when it starts. (P.S. Some of the in-better-shape obstacles have been moved into storage.)

“They had a trashcan fire in one of those iconic Love Park bins. It was so cold that people’s bushings were freezing up making turning impossible… They had to grab their board and leave it by this trashcan fire for five minutes, which would buy them five minutes of skating before the bushings froze back up and they had to do it again… It was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen, people everywhere.” Palace videographer, Jack Brooks, is the latest subject of the Slam City Skates blog’s “Visuals” series, in which he discusses Bill’s “Pigeon” edit, the Palace Kalis board, filming Lucien’s Palasonic part, and more.
