‘The Same Boy I Used To Be’ — Bert’s Vid 2!

Just as Justin Helmkamp’s first Bert’s Vid served as a bro-cam bonus round to Mother and It’s Time, its sequel picks the baton up right around Bronze’s 2020 promo and Quasi’s Grand Prairie, and carries it through the pandemic.

Through a scratched-to-shit fisheye and an eighties soundtrack that makes the video play like a skateboard version of Sincerely Yours, Southside, we get treated to new parts from Mark Humienik, Nik Ferro, Chachi, Josh Wilson and Dick Rizzo that we never even knew to expect.

Rain All Week

Wavey via Troy

Hardbody Puerto Rico shirts for Puerto Rican Day on the Hardbody site.

This video rules: “Me And My Dogs” by Will Poon, spotted via Skate Jawn. It’s great how a childhood skate crew video set in New York circa 2021 (e.g. the type of video that will forever exist through all generations of skateboarding) has the potential to get you more hyped to skate than a summer blockbuster :)

“You know what I like? When people go pro. You know what I like more? When people go pro as fuck.” The forever-brilliant Bronze 56k radio mixes are back with a Dick Rizzo guest mix. Shout out to Group Home “Tear Shit Down.” Also forgot how good that Wayne song is.

Carl Aikens and Hosea Peeters’ shared a Thrasher part last week that includes some final remnants of plazacation at Big Screen Plaza :)

Like Whoa

Send Za” is the latest New York edit from videographer Eryk Burton. Ender nollie heel at the new spot everyone’s been getting yelled at is wild.

“I always liked no complies, even when they weren’t cool.” Love these — “Watching Jerry Fowler with Jerry Fowler” is the latest in Village Psychic’s “Watching” series, and it’s about his Continuum part. Glad that he likes it, because it rules ♥ Doing one of these with Jahmal about his section would be just as rad :)

The union bosses at Hit You Off Management re-saturated and remixed some of Dick Rizzo’s Grand Prairie clips.

Skate Rave @ Vans Space 198

And on a day when the wind-chill brings the temperature down to 12 degrees, we bring you some… good news.

Space 198, the new free, INDOOR Vans park is opening on January 2nd at 198 Randolph Street in Brooklyn. Unlike the belated House of Vans, which was more of an event space inside of a skatepark (and brought out people’s inner savages anytime there was a mid-winter open day there), this park is a community-oriented space built for skateboarding.

It’s going to be open Thursday through Sundays — you just need to to sign up on the website beforehand. And it’s off the Jefferson L stop in Bushwick, making everyone’s life a bit easier than a 20-minute walk through the snow to Greenpoint that we used to do ;)

As they were putting the finishing touches on it, they gave a handful of crews the chance to check out the park last week, and here’s what we came back with. Be nice to Jersey Dave when you see him, because chances are, his phone has not stopped buzzing for the past two weeks.

Filmed by Will Rosenstock, Paul Young, Max Hull, Cristian Berrios & Kyota Umeki.
