Sorry 4 da wait. Let’s keep her going. Final part will be up New Year’s Eve.
“I don’t remember doing this…was it in the Transworld Duets video?” Antonio Durao varial heel the Banks rail in the December 2018 edition of TWS “Sightings.” Photo by Blair Alley.
Village Psychic came through with a lovely Jawn Gardner remix, just as we revert back to mid 40-degree temperatures for this upcoming week :) Thanks for keeping us hyped in 2k18, John ♥
We were so naive to think that we could close the lid on 2018 while retaining the innocence of never hearing “Sicko Mode” in a “Summer Trip to New York” montage *facepalm* Jk, jk. The Chef boys from Milan came through in the eleventh hour and released a montage from their summer here.
Lukas Reed, the creator of this past summer’s all-Everson Art Museum video, “Mecca,” met up will Bill Strobeck on a cold day at Syracuse’s most famous skate spot to discuss his history with the plaza for a Bobshirt-esque video interview.
“E-Money” tracked down nearly five minutes of Will Marshall loosies for a remix. Wooooooooo!
New footage of Leo Heinert, Luis Tolentino, and the rest of the crew in “Crudo,” the raw footage promo for Rodney Torres’ company, Torro.
More feel-good moments: a one-minute 2018 recap via Chico Brenes.
Akira Mowatt, Charles Lamb, Robert Lim and some of the locals have a iPhone edit from their time in Shanghai. We were there for like a week and skated maybe half of these places? Place is as wild as everyone makes it out to be for spots.
Another one for the ever-increasing scroll of fun Upstate New York videos this year: “Tailgate” via Buffalo Dave.
Bronze dropped a quick edit of Nick Ferro leftovers from It’s Time.
Some New York clips in the un-used footage reel from Pete Spooner’s Skating Is Easy video, which is premiering in Minneapolis later this week.
Jenkem asked skate shop owners about what we can do to keep them around for as long as possible.
QS Sports Desk: John Wall playing like he doesn’t want to get traded to the Knicks and fade into obscurity in two years because of it.
Quote of the Week: “At first I thought that guy in the grey beanie was Alex Olson, but then I realized he looked more like Post Malone.” — Dana Ericson
A. Vega by M. Heikkila at B. Nine
“tis the season…for skating Seagram because the security window’s view of the ledges is obstructed by giant Christmas trees :)
Someone ollied that Vespa bump-to-bar that T.J. did in “BLESSED”…the other way.
“People always ask me about that day, but honestly, it was truly terrifying…Like, what better thing to do than go skate around? Sure, it’s kind of a frivolous thing to do under those circumstances, but at the same time, that’s the point.” Chromeball talks Mike O’Meally about skating in New York on September 12, 2001 + gets the stories on a bunch of his photos, many of which were shot while living in the city.
New York magazine’s food site, Grub Street, did a feature on Tyshawn’s restaurant in the Bronx. #TJSOTY.
Watermelonism has a fun edit up from an old QS trip to Medellin, an immensely underrated skate destination. Alex is also offering 25% off all the stuff in the Watermelonism webstore for QS readers if you use the promo code “Quartersnacks” in the next 24 hours ♥
“As designer and architect, everyone always asked if I wanted to design skateparks, but I was always kinda annoyed by that question. I love skating skateparks, they’re fun, but I never thought about that.” Solo has a sick interview with ant colony aficionado, Alexis Sablone. Fully wanna try the walnut thing next time I see some ants…
“Some seen, some unseen.” Five minutes from NJ Scum’s DV tape archive.
Boil the Ocean offers up a review of “BLESSED” + some thoughts on “a new gilded age for skate videos.”
Yonnie Cruz and Vincent Alvarez share a cruisey half New York / half L.A. part for Theories’ collaboration with Lakai.
Maybe the best part uploaded from the Buffalo-based Jeb video so far: Justin Grzechowiak’s section is a nice reminder that upstate New York should probably be on par with Boston, D.C., et al. as a get-out-of-the-city destination for us all, but I’m sure upstaters would prefer it staying the way it is hehe.
Here is Philly and New York-heavy friends section from the Clusterfuck video.
Skate Jawn built a short-lived box over the stones at Blue Park back at the start of the summer, and just now got around to posting some of the footage from the contest they threw on it.
QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: James Harden, Defensive Player of the Year. Who woulda thought ;)
Quote of the Week: “Mark Suciu shouldn’t be in S.O.T.Y. contention until he reads more women authors.” — Shrimp C
I’m sure there’s like a twenty-page Slap thread about it, but Matt Rodriguez was really on one in preceding a lot of the shit that would become popular practice in 2014-2018, especially for a lot of office favorites. (Maybe the same could be said about that entire 2005 I-Path video in general.)
As much as we would’ve loved to acknowledge all sorts of wizardry in the new Girl video, Tao’s wonderful Copenhagen mini-vid / Ville part, and that slappy back smith in the Tanner Van Vark part (which you might miss if you blink), after a repeated viewing of It’s Time with the intention of making selections for this week’s Top 10, it became obvious we could not reduce the video to under ten choices.
Now, slicing up a Bronze video into snippets somewhat defeats the purpose of a Bronze video — but we’re a New York-based media empire, and we wear our biases on our sleeve ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sorry for the wait ;)
P.S. If you happen to be in Tokyo this week like 50% of New York right now, stop by the Domicile shop in Shibuya where we are doing a small pop-up with our friends Hardbody, Humble, LQQK, and others. We did a tiny run of Halloween Snackman tees for it. Flyer + address + other info here.

The new Bronze 56k video, It’s Time is now live.
All of a sudden you’re only three minutes into a seven-minute-long Black Hubba compilation clip, and realize that you’ve already passed the switch 360 flip lipslide. If you live in New York, you waste at least .5% of your life sitting around at Blubba doing nothing. Here’s a video of all the moments that didn’t go to waste.
“Bronze 56K is all about rolling up switch to the Carlsbad gap after just barely falling off pushing on your skateboard and popping the most brolic switch hardflip.” Japan’s VHS Mag interviewed Peter Sidlauskas on the occasion of It’s Time.
Chachi’s Jenkem date is like Mid 90s but late 2010s. #fastminds.
Theories has a quick feature with Jahmal Williams that runs down the background stories behind some of the old Hopps graphics.
Pete Spooner’s new video is [by chance] named after one of Will Marshall’s favorite observations about skateboarding. Skating is Easy trailer here. Always find it charming when a teaser for a new skate vid is longer than 60 seconds in the Instagram era ;)
2018 has been a mega year for
upstate New York skate videos nvm, it’s for a central Pennsylvania video, so let’s just say it has been a mega year for upstate New York spots in videos ;) One Mo’ Gin is another feather in upstate New York’s 2018 cap. At least I think it’s an upstate N.Y. vid…
On that note, Tombo uploaded another “Raw Deals” clip with more classique French guys than you’d expect. More on that later this week hehehe.
R.I.P. St. Dymphnas A.K.A. Yellow Bar A.K.A. Same Difference. You were never anyone’s favorite bar, but you were the best cheap bar by Tompkins when it started raining, and for that reliability, you will be missed.
QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Knicks fans are in for yet another soul-crushing season of false 8th seed dreams, and we’re avoiding all temptations of having the first regular season Play of the Week be related to Rondo V.S. Chris Paul, so here’s a cool Tim Hardaway J.R. pass to Kanter that you can overreact to.
Quote of the Week: “Those guys make me feel stupid for not having kids when I was like, twenty. They’re all just doing ecstasy with their kids now.” — Torey
Haven’t been in a proper headspace to um, “process” a Juice WRLD and Future mixtape over the past few days, but feel compelled to come clean on here that this is one of the most oft-played songs at the QS office since it came out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
