Some of you might remember Thom Musso A.K.A. The Man Who Films’ Beach Genius from 2019. It was a video that stretched everyone’s summer routine of kinda-skating Rockaway for an hour before hitting the beach into a full concept project filmed entirely on the Rockaway peninsula — a place not exactly known for its abundance of skate spots (outside of a famous square rail.) It was a QS office favorite that year.
In the four years since, the same crew pursued an expanded concept of focusing on not just Rockaway spots, but a myriad of spots that revolve around water, though not necessarily a plunge into Phil Zwijsen-level water sports. The spots in Beach Genius H2.0 are all either coastal towns, seawalls, boardwalks, broken piers, or abandoned boats — right through to playgrounds centralized by their spray fountain features. Definitely a fun watch as the sun begins to set on 2023’s beach season.
Merry Christmas to whoever woke up with the stolen Beamer logo off Dre’s car under their tree.
Hate to pile on to 2016’s seemingly infinite supply of bad news, but this is the first year that we’re not coming through with a full Christmas clip. Although the pasttwo have admittedly lost the steam of say 2007’s tour de force, 2010’s G.O.A.T. or 2012’s shockingly productive fall — 2016 is the year when adult life caught up, and skateboarding in November/December outside of Tompkins or a skatepark just didn’t go down like it used to. Below are a few ~moody~ bits from the summer (!!!) to fill the place of a would-be Christmas clip.
Eleven years in a row of by-far the longest running annual web clip series ain’t so bad. Shout out to the O.G. Bryan Chin from who we ripped the idea off in the first place back in the early 2000s. Hope to make it back for the next one.
Features Daniel Kim, Connor Champion, Josh Velez, Andre Page, John Franco, Akira Mowatt, Matthew Perez, Lurker Lou, Keith Denley, Alexander Mosley, Thom Musso, Pryce Holmes. Filmed by Andre Page and Pad Dowd.
BUT, keep in mind that none of that may matter at all, since Dustin Henry’s Antisocial Video part is still around to warm your heart this holiday season. Congrats again to Dustin for winning our first annual Skater You Would Be Most OK With Your Daughter Dating Award! #perfectboy
Merry Christmas everyone. We’ll be back on Tuesday, December 27th.
Anyone who saw the exceptional Butter Goods promo probably noticed that Philly’s part was one of the standouts — except that’s not his best output from 2014. Thom Musso A.K.A. The Man Who Films has slowly been uploading parts from his rather under-the-radar video, OD WAVY, on Vimeo this past week. Philly has the ender, which went up today, and is easily one of the best parts you’ll watch in 2014.
And though the Diplomats “Bout It, Bout It” remix may have been used in any number of forgettable montages, its legend has finally been cemented in the most legit 1/2 N.O. + 1/2 N.Y. part to date. There has never been anything this applicable until now.
