Attn cities: The “Skateboarders = skateparks” way of thinking isn’t cutting it anymore.

Congratulations to Liz and Miles on the birth of the first QS-affiliated baby!

Turns out that Ben Colen’s wishful Chromeball visits amounted to an after-credits bonus interview with Jovontae Turner, where he talks about racists and other things.

Gino Iannucci pays a visit to the Roslyn Banks, probably the most recognizable Long Island skate spot, which is sort of sad for such a large land mass. He discusses the spot’s history and offers a #controversial opinion against the use of Bondo.

Muckmouth compiled an extensive video of all the tricks that have been done on the Santa Monica Courthouse stage. And yeah, a nollie heelflip up is still absurd.

A bunch of Colorado expats living in New York made cool a ten-minute video. Weed humor tends to go over much of the QS office’s heads, but they share our spot sensibilities. Also, is that Cameron Diaz’s character from The Counselor at 3:17?

Jeremy Elkin’s new video somehow managed to round up and feature four dudes who pretty much everyone has always wanted to see full parts from: Akira Mowatt (unless you count Mixtape 2), Rob Campbell, German Nieves, and Leo Gutman (he had a part in Flipmode 3, but that was in 2006…) The Brodies premieres at Sunshine Theater on Thursday, November 14th at 9 P.M. Anthony Pappalardo (the writer, not the Alien Workshop/Chocolate alumnus) wrote a .GIF-enhanced #listicle about extinct skateboard tricks for Complex. The “Muska Flip” or non-flipping-frontside-flip portion fails to acknowledge the plight of those of us who learned hardflips before frontside flips, and thus have a muscle memory that is averse to kickflipping for a frontside flip. We did not choose Muska flips and we’re not named Bryan Herman, so we’re stuck with hardflip frontside body varials. Anyone who was ever capable of flipping a frontside flip, but chose not to because they thought it looked cool is just stupid. We were born this way! Stop mocking our handicap!

The 2013 edition of Frozen in Carbonite’s always great song of the summer + best video parts of the summer wrap up is now live. It tackles important topics like Mark Appleyard’s longevity, French Montana’s lack of figurative language, and Javier Sarmiento’s fashion choices. Notable omissions to the songs include “Versace,” “No New Friends,” “Type of Way,” “Fine China,” “Get Lucky” (“the Lone Ranger of summer songs” i.e. force fed garbage), and “I Hit It First,” the S.O.T.S. that sadly never was. Joseph Delgado has a solid three-minute video checkout on the Transworld site. The Flushing extension tricks are awesome. (How has “Party and Bullshit” been used for like five skate parts, but nobody thought to use the Lord Finesse version?)

As we begin to search for the next generation of baggy-clothed, tech Euro skaters of the Javier/Lebron/Jesus/Flo/Enrique mold, the Czech Republic might be a good place to start. These dudes are not nearly as tech as the aforementioned five, but they’re maaaadddd hip-hop. There’s no doubt that a country containing possibly the best ledge spot on earth is bound to produce an eventual heir to Europe’s technical throne.

If there’s one company on the “I wish they put out more content”-list, it’s Hopps. Joel Meinholz skates through Grand Central in their new commercial.

Even if you’re going to condense the history of skateboarding into 120 seconds, your video should still include Mariano’s Mouse ender. It’s at least as important as the 900.

R.I.P. Donald Byrd. At the very least, rap nerds can easily recognize Byrd’s music via the sample Premier chopped up for “N.Y. State of Mind” or the loop from Black Moon’s “Buck ‘Em Down.” He was also on Guru’s first Jazzmatazz compilation. Though not a skater favorite like Dave Brubeck, check out the 2002 Uprise Skateshop video, Suprise, which features two Donald Byrd songs (“Change” and “City Life”), not to mention Ryan Giese and Steve Nish appearances.

Black Dave made it. No, he really made it. B.D. will be opening up for Project Pat on Tuesday, February 26th at Santos Party House. Congratulations to B.D. on this monumental step in his career. And don’t worry, we’ll remind you about this sixty times between now and the end of the month.
