Ten years prior to Canada’s current #moment, it had a smaller, more skate-centric #moment when videos like North were dropping. Village Psychic revisited the 2004 Anti-Social video from that era. (Anti-Social has a new one dropping next spring, btw.)

Youness is without question one of the top-three most impressive IRL skateboarders I have ever witnessed. Someone made an Instagram remix of his footage, and I’m sure he did it all in under five tries probably joking around.

Most of my friends rocked the Staples way heavier as far as Lakais went, but there was definitely a later cult around the Manchesters. SMLTalk has a requiem for maybe the last Lakai shoe to make an imprint in the skate footwear landscape.

You know Puerto Rico trips are still trending when a magazine-affiliated video of a P.R. trip gets held for half-a-year — simply because the mag was running #too #many #Puerto #Rico #features. Before anyone gets a chance to call it blown out, please have an obvious winter trip suggestion ready. Colombia seems like it’s been a distant second for a while, but for whatever reason, its department of tourism missed a golden opportunity of rebranding the country’s image around Young Scooter’s seminal ballad. That probably hurt its chances of becoming a premier destination.

The latest excursion to skateboarding’s favorite winter destination is with the almost-implied-enough-that-you-don’t-need-to-mention-it-anymore Most Productive Crew™ in New York. Features most of the guys from “Core,” “Rack” and Space Heater. Sort of how Carroll’s Modus part is low-key Scott Johnston’s best part because of “the greatest trick ever done” (shout out Choc Tour, Finally, and def Let the Horns Blow), “Rum Diary” is the best part from Conor “Best Line in a Johnny Wilson Video” Prunty on account of similar low-keyness. Also features basically a mini Andrew Wilson part.

New Watermelonism: Travel Melon

Most people travel for one, two weeks at a time. Every December, Alexander Mosley — creator of the Watermelon Video and Dos Sandias — buys a one-way ticket to a place without a “real” winter. (The “real” is in quotes because people in San Juan have told me they don’t swim in the winter…when the water temperature is 80 degrees.) He usually doesn’t come back until New York’s average temperature levels out above 70. Something to consider when you’re crying about winter this upcoming February ;)

The latest Watermelonism installment is a tribute to always being on the move. Half filmed during a six-month stint all over Puerto Rico — the freest place in all of America — with the other half back in New York. Includes some of the last bits of St. Vincent’s Banks footage that you’ll ever see. (There’s nothing to skate at the new plaza FYI.)

Everyone talks about the frontside flips and hardflips, but SMLTalk opted to break down Mike Carroll’s five best backside smith grinds. The one down the rail in Pretty Sweet might be one of the most memorable tricks in that entire video, along with the last Cory Kennedy line and Milan grate back 180 nosegrind shuv.

Still Trending: Puerto Rican Winters

With winter coming back around tomorrow, now may be a good time to vicariously live through the week we spent in Puerto Rico at the start of 2015. The island’s status as skateboarding’s premier tropical getaway for ~$300 RT has been well-documented on the internet this winter: Lakai spent some time there, all the dudes from Richmond who are heavy on Vine were just there, and the Most Productive Crew™ in New York skateboarding has still yet to release all documented material from their February trip.

Our time spent two months ago was not very “productive” in the traditional sense, as the purpose of the trip was leisure rather than business and/or skateboarding. Most of the footage came via winter Puerto Rican resident, Alexander Mosley, who just put together a clip for his website, Watermelonism.com.

We covered the San Juanese skateboard getaway phenomenon on the site last year, but we did get to travel a bit around the east side island this time around. That means dipping into towns with a couple beachside skate spots, and higher amounts of chickens and stray dogs running around than in the more Americanized San Juan. One of the highlights was a day trip to Vieques, which can be seen throughout the final minute of the above clip, in addition to the opening Al Davis line / Jake Johnson ollie up the stage, 5050 the hubba in the GX1000 “PM Puerto Rico” clip.
