Speaking of all new levels of skateboarding, Tiago was in town for Street League and these two clips of him skating Seaport and the L.E.S. Park got brought up in at least four conversations this weekend. #SOTY.

Put a formal Twitter inquiry regarding the inventor of the noseslide earlier this summer (the consensus was Gonz.) Mackenzie Eisenhour discusses it in this TWS piece regarding the origins of the noseblunt: “Even prior to the noseblunt, Mark is also credited with adapting the noseslide to ledges and handrails on the streets, after seeing photos of Neil Blender innovating nose stalls on ramps.”

Given as how they’ve been dominating all forms of culture since Switch Mike started blasting So Far Gone in any and all of his BMWs and Herschel became the new Jansport, it should come as no surprise that the most enjoyable skateboard podcast also comes from Canada. Season two of the Bunt is now running, and starts off with cult hero, Spencer Hamilton. Expedition-1 talk, non-alcoholic beers, etc.

‘PUSSY GANGSTER’ — Supreme in Paris

Present-day Paris is a case study in how one street spot could revitalize an entire skate scene. In the few years that République has existed, we’ve seen an indigenous sect of skateboarding emerge from the spot, company trips to Paris increase tenfold, and a jolt of energy to other places in the city that had otherwise found their way out of coverage circulation. The best spots are the ones we are left alone in, and there’s no greater compliment you could give Parisian culture — or any culture that applies, really — than to say that people mind their own business. No bust, no “you almost hit me,” no “there’s a skatepark down the block.” There’s a unanimous respect for your right to be in a public space, on a skateboard or whatever else your purpose may be.

You can stay in Paris for a week, meet up at République daily, but still come back with zero footage from the spot. It’s a vortex where modern ideas of “productivity” wither away in exchange for the joys of being unhassled in an open space with ledges. “Pussy Gangster,” Bill’s new one to commemorate the opening of Supreme Paris, treats République like he treated Love in 2001. While it only takes up a quarter of the screentime, you feel it at the origin of every clip. And when you’re back at the spot — the lurkers, the crazies, the unplanned lines, the sure-what-the-hell clips from the O.Gs and the interactions with traffic all count for as much as the wildest trick to go down outside of it.

Just as many Americans are still recovering from 2008’s financial meltdown, skateboarding is apparently still reeling from the collapse of Alien Workshop 1.0, as evidenced in Yaje Popson’s latest interview with Transworld, and Jake Johnson’s [extended] one with Thrasher. Also note to anyone about to log off and head to D7: “I think I really messed my body up jumping down stuff when I was younger and my body was still growing. If I could give advice I’d say don’t jump down stuff until you’re older.”

Following the first 60-degree Sunday of 2016, noseslide 270 shuv outs have not gained any momentum at a projected resurgence. However, Ron Deily makes a good case for lowbrow frontside 270 out of noseslide tech in the new Zoo in S.F. clip.

Thrasher recently entered the arena of YouTube comps with a five-minute compilation of the greatest handrail tricks, but shouldn’t Gonz’s boardslide down the Banks 9 + his 5050 and front board down the [defunct] 8th & Greene Street rail from the (1986?) Vision video be the first thing? Weren’t those supposedly the first handrail tricks? Is the idea of handrail skating being born in New York akin to pointing out that Christopher Columbus didn’t actually discover America?!

Just realized this QS feature from a year-old issue of Acclaim mag is online. Was kinda the blueprint / draft for the intro of the actual Quartersnacks book.

Youness is without question one of the top-three most impressive IRL skateboarders I have ever witnessed. Someone made an Instagram remix of his footage, and I’m sure he did it all in under five tries probably joking around.

Most of my friends rocked the Staples way heavier as far as Lakais went, but there was definitely a later cult around the Manchesters. SMLTalk has a requiem for maybe the last Lakai shoe to make an imprint in the skate footwear landscape.

Always weird to remember that people actually sometimes maybe kinda sorta read the words that are written on this website.

Late on all of this, but…got sucked into a Google wormhole of reading about ghost cities in China — urban developments intended for millions of people that ended up containing maybe ~2% of that projection. That naturally provoked the question of “why has no one done a skate trip here?” which then lead to a discovery of this two-year-old video. It’s the most eerily post-apocalyptic skate video ever.
