‘THE BUTTERFLY’ — The Latest Video From Violet

Bill Strobeck’s Violet imprint just dropped their first longish-form video since the inaugural Violet promo from last spring. “THE BUTTERFLY” is an Efron Danzig part (real name, for those who don’t know) intro’d by a montage from the rest of the team: Troy Gipson, Kyle Teh, Seven Strong, Auguste Bouznad, Patrick O’Mara and Kris Brown.

Yelled at the screen in shock when that Rodney Mullen-esque ender came out of nowhere — a Muni crowd pleaser very much in the mold of the kickflip front 5-0 line from Harry Bergenfield’s Down Bad video that made Efron a fan-favorite. Have a look at the bench-to-planter combo that Patrick O’Mara 5050’s into the street next time you’re cruising down Park Avenue, too.

Supreme’s ‘Play Dead’ Video Is Now Live

Writing in 2019, when “cherry” snagged the top spot in QS Readers Poll results for best videos of the 2010s (voting for this year’s opens soon!), Boil the Ocean remarked “that it is easy to forget the gamble that “cherry” represented roughly one eternity ago.” The gamble clearly worked, and “BLESSED” felt like a result of the creative blank check a film studio gives out when someone’s first feature breaks expectations.

The Third Track — Johnny Wilson & Supreme in Chicago

If you’re a longtime QS reader, there’s a decent chance that the ~2014-2020 run of Johnny Wilson videos have saved up enough repeat viewings for a penthouse apartment in your heart. And within that sweet-spot of unbridled productivity that went down from 2014 to 2016, “rack” always felt like something of a crown jewel. There were Cyrus’ night lines, Hjalte and Brass interchanging clips before they were Polar teammates, and Antonio throwing a switch tre down D7 in the middle of a web edit — all soundtracked to Moodymann, when #skatevideohouse was at its peak.

Which is also the reason we’re talking about “rack” today. Johnny just dropped a Chicago edit with the Supreme dudes to commemorate the opening of their new store out there, and a Moodymann reprise was naturally in order. Except this time, it’s Nik Stain, Kris Brown and Kalis trading granite cathedral lines, Caleb with 10/10 switch heel form, and Tyshawn doing Tyshawn shit.

Drew x Everson” is a 14-minute video filmed exclusively at the Everson Museum of Art (the centerpiece of the scene in Syracuse, New York), and put together as a tribute to Drew Grabowski, who passed earlier this year. Drew’s family and friends created the nonprofit Skate 4 Drew to help build the Syracuse skate scene in Drew’s memory, which you can donate to here.

The Slam City Skates blog interviewed Casper Brooker about how the whole Baker thing went down.

Skyline is a full-length video out of Cincinnati by Seth Zwick, with tons of midwestern crust, and an epic shared part from Scott Zelner and Logan Hamm.

Dead Mophie Society

A billboard above Popeye’s Ledge. A dream come true 🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂

Kind of knew this day was only a matter of time given how bad the cracks are getting. Community Board 3 held a meeting that laid out a plan for repaving Tompkins next summer. Though it is not a hard date just yet, it looks like the court we all skate will be closed for up to three months while the asphalt cures. Doesn’t seem like they are pulling any silly shit like they did with the turf in 2019. (But they are ending softball permits!) Shout out to the lady who pulled up to the meeting like, “How have you gone talking this long without mentioning the skaters?”

The official Thrasher recap is sure to drop mid-week like it does every time, but people on YouTube already compiled an eight-minute 2022 Dime Glory Challenge best-of.
