Early this summer, Hulu released a Rick James documentary — a tour de force that I cannot recommend highly enough. In addition to the “trip the fuck out” moment of James being in a band with Neil Young, the film features a number of “reenactments” using 3D computer animation. These reenactments depict some really wild shit, including, yes, a coke-fueled orgy.
You know — what summer 2021 was supposed to have been!
Eggs’ Brian Reid has a new part for Grand Collection out today. Between the front crook and immediate curve-out on the White Hubba currently undergoing its third (fourth?) post-deknob renaissance, the nonchalant no-push lines at Museum of Natural History + Lenox, and a kickflip back noseblunt that most would be ok with retiring on, the guy really continues his string of imprinting tricks in your mind with every video appearance.
Word is that this took two weekends to film, and it’s more eventful than what many could do in twice the runtime. Excited to see what else is headed our way. Imagine three (!) weekends of this! ;) ♥

The new Blue Couch edit is their best one yet — a lot of which is just filmed in the vicinity of the 125th Street Fairway? Never realized those inch-high curbs at Grants Tomb were a doppelgänger for the London ones Tom Knox, Mike Arnold and them always skate.
Krux has a new edit with Arin, Marbie, Cooper, Kristin Ebeling, Ryan Lay, and others hitting Blue Park, Alligator, and all the spots under the Kosciuszko.
“The Creed Video” is filmed around New York, Richmond and Charlotte. These sort of homie videos have a special charm ♥ Sincerely smiled at the turnaround after the 5-0 180.

So much nineties New York footage on the #repost circuit is us re-mining R.B. Umali’s amazing archive over and over that it’s a shock to see something from then that you haven’t seen before. Alex Corporan started going through all his old tapes, and put together a montage as a preview for a Revisted-esque project he’s working on.
Grand Collection has a short commercial with Connor Champion on the occasion of their Umbro collaboration — loosely inspired by the DC Kalis commercial that played on TV twenty years ago. (Filmed in New York! Not Philly!)
“That has been my wallet since I got it from Alien in 1994.” If you are under the age of 25, Fred Gall’s wallet is older than you, as per the TWS “Skatehoarders” video where he runs through his board collection. Also a reminder that Freddy’s Bobshirt interview is still one of the best anthologies of skate storytelling from the past decade.
Sometimes, a good vibe is all you need :) “Ceelo Champs in the Field” is a really rad 13-minute video via a bunch of dudes out of Raleigh, North Carolina. It’s comforting to know that these types of close-knit friends videos will always exist (and have always existed) for as long as skateboarding does. There’s a decent bit of New York footage, too.
“Third Worst Video” is a fun edit by Lloyd Richards, filmed almost entirely in the city, and is def not the third worst video. Sk8rs ♥ that Tweet song.
