The upcoming week’s forecast looks pretty nice. Six straight days of rain. That shouldn’t stop you from skating though, especially if you’re unemployed, or your hours of employment are from 10 P.M. to 4 A.M.

The Flipmode affiliates have put together a four-minute throwaway clip to one of Big L’s more famously vulgar outings. “You know, they built you guys a skatepark so you wouldn’t skate here.”

Torey Pudwill would be more exciting if he continued this trend of simple trick based, quick set-up lines on actual skate spots instead of kickflip back lip to back tailslide kickflip outs on ledges behind chain stores. With that being said, Plan B opting for the simpler, more stylish route on the promo makes us hope that the actual part would be more in that vein, and that’s certainly welcome.

There’s Always Next Year

We kept wishing 1999 would show up. 2010-2011 was a good building block of a season. The future doesn’t look as dim as we’ve grown to expect it.

Let’s get the most important news out of the way: Soulja Boy is set to remake Juice, the 1992 film starring Tupac and Omar Epps. Somewhere deep in his subconscious, Giglotti’s hip-hop side is screaming blasphemy. Cam’ron is said to have a role in the ambitious remake, but his track record with completing motion pictures is somewhat iffy. In other words, what happened to Cousin Bang?

Ladies and gentlemen, here is Theodore Barrow skating Stoner Park.

Haven’t skated Jersey City in quite some time, so perhaps this is a bit late, but there’s a new medium-sized gap right next to that building on Second Street and the Hudson River with all the [knobbed] step-up ledges.

You have no doubt seen Ty Evans’ video with a pair of twelve-year-old twins being better at skateboarding than the entire tri-state area if it were combined into one person, but something about it screams for a “Grove Street Party” re-edit. Perhaps even some Pastor Troy.

A friend is casting for a full-length film he is doing, which happens to require people who can actually skateboard for their roles. Go here for more info on the film, and a breakdown of the available roles. It’s the sort of thing that probably requires acting abilities, unlike most skateboarder “castings” in New York. Basically, not like that “All the girls standing in line for the bathroom” video shoot, when they told you to “dress like a skater…wear a flannel,” and it ended early because someone got stabbed.

Not sure who put this together, but it’s a straight-foward 23 minutes of (mostly) New York skating, with no annoying songs, and many Flipmode favorites. Should be enough to get you through the early part of the week.

Here’s the Mandible Claw New York section / intro from the crew’s new video. If people start treating that ledge through the keyhole at Saint Vincent’s as an actual spot, we will reach a new, even more absurd height in terms of “what’s considered a ‘spot'” in New York.

Never really been into Skate Talk, but here’s a compilation of the Antwuan Dixon, “fresh out of jail” episode. Subject matter and slang editorials make it interesting.

A Flipmode video to end the year off…

By some strange stroke of fate, Peter has concocted a video project to aid us through the first half of winter, and tallied up 2010 as the third straight year in a row of making some of the finest local multimedia available. Longer than Sognar, but shorter than Trife, Caviar has parts from Bill Piece, Pedro Garboza, and others that were largely missed from the preceding project, in addition to keeping the crew’s traditional roster (McFeely, Shawn Powers, Kevin, etc.) This may be the second time this year that Flipmode has fallen victim to video pirates, as this video seems to have been ripped from a video cassette that was originally a collage of taped evangelical daytime TV shows, Larry Johnson’s four-point play, and scenes from New Jack City. The locations in the video only fuel the fact that there are still tons of spots left in New York, all you have to do is look harder, or employ San Franciscan approaches to hillside spot discovery before you start complaining about how everything is gone. It has been a really good year for local videos.

(The video offers some ominous hints at the Billy Lynch disappearance mystery, but no clear solutions. What is it with Long Island and the perpetual vanishing of its skateboard-riding residents?)

A bunch of random links for an early Monday afternoon.

Throwaway clip featuring many of the Flipmode usual suspects. Both of Black Dave’s tricks at Columbia are super official.

Apparently, someone in some bizarre marketing company buried in a midtown office building got too psyched, and decided that utilizing fingerboards to appeal to an extremely affluent 35+ consumer base was a good idea, because Hermes started making commercials with them. Either that, or skateboarding’s income brackets have really started to build up, and luxury brands are beginning to expand into creating SB lines. Will P. Rod or Eric Koston be the first to ride for Louis Vuitton?

Although you might be dismayed at the fact that you are watching maybe the eighth or ninth video edited to “Pretty Boy Swag” this year, “Sasha Grey Returns” is a skateboard video that claims to have more breasts than any other, so whatever redundancies in music choices are negligible. (Also, Quartersnacks is laying claim to being ahead of the curve *maybe not so much* on the whole “Pretty Boy Swag” thing. This website gets at least three daily visitors from people Googling “this. right here. is my. new Lambo.”)

What twelve-year-old decided it was necessary to use that much wax on the Big Two spot?

If you need some inspiration for the day, take a trip back to 1998 and watch Steve Olson’s part from Fulfill the Dream. This guy is an inspiration to kids who get dressed in the dark via a pile of clothes in their room everywhere, in addition to any psychopaths interested in jumping onto otherwise unfeasible handrails. Or those looking to roll off of rooftops onto wooden rails. The song has to be one of the best choices to ever grace a skate part as well.

The “My fucking bush!” guy definitely never expected that keeping the video off YouTube would turn into a full-time job.
