New Daniel Lebron Flocka James Part!

Daniel Lebron Flocka James is still winning hearts and minds in 2013, while his namesake has spent the year trampling on them with frat boys.

You might remember that the only hesitation in chiseling a bonus fifth face into the Mount Rushmore of European Skateboarding was Lebron’s not-as-expansive videography when alongside a Jesus, Javier or J.B. Well, Nike SB released a three-minute Dani Lebron part today. It furthers the case for Europeans in their mid-to-late thirties’ ability to stay #relevant in a Hella Clip-ified society longer than many of their American counterparts. Also, let’s give a round of applause to real ledges and sunlight. Boxes in warehouses are cool n’ stuff (sort of), but if one is to go down the route of trying to successfully pull off a good-looking (!) back smith varial flip out, a stone ledge and some fresh air won’t hurt.

Not to end on a negative note — lord knows we get plenty of shit around here for music supervision decisions from people unaware the nineties ended (currently editing something to Drake btw #nothingwasthesame) — but what the hell is up with this song? Even the dudes who are still checking for new U-God CDs would probably rather cue up Migos over this.

Related: Lebron has some largely flat-oriented skating in this artsy clip.

Daniel Lebron Flocka James — The QS Reel

In our most recent Euro appreciation post, some commenters admirably made the case for Daniel Lebron’s inclusion on the imaginary Mount Rushmore of low impact European skaters in their thirties, even suggesting a fifth slot be carved out to add him. The only real “knock” on Lebron when assessed alongside the Javier, Jesus, et al. is that he doesn’t have as deep of a videography as the others. Aside from the LaLa Land and L.A. County parts, which are both from the same time period, he has since appeared mostly in shared sections and montages.

As a consolation, here is a reel of Dani’s footage from a few Nike trips we were a part of in 2010 and 2011. All of it has appeared on the site before, but never in one dedicated video. The majority of it was filmed just messing around, which ended up yielding two of the more memorable bits of [typically disposable] T.F. footage in recent history. All of this dude’s tricks have a habit of looking absurdly solid without veering anywhere close to robot territory — a prime example of MACBA-honed flatground skills. He’s also one of skateboarding’s great heelflippers, and not in a way that overcompensates for a deficient kickflip or anything…

For more recent and less cruiser-oriented Lebron footage, check the 2011 Stacks mini video, Nike’s Taiwan trip video, or the only Berrics video we’ve ever run as a standalone post.

Forgotten Skate Videos: L.A. County (2000)

During last month’s trip to Los Angeles, the few moments not spent arguing with cab drivers were used to debate topics relevant to any 60% beer / 40% skateboarding getaway. A discussion of forgotten L.A. skate videos came up (hence the LaLa Land inclusion in our Out of Office reply), causing us to remember Listen, Land Pirates, A New Horizon and L.A. County, the best of the bunch.

L.A. County was released during a transition from the classic white tee and chino schoolyard videos (see: World, Girl) to Phase One of the “everyone is good” era that began in issues of Logic, and peaked with In Bloom and Street Cinema. This shift would have been a lot smoother if The Storm never came out, and dudes didn’t spend three years thinking they had to nollie heelflip out of everything.

To the distant observer, the L.A. in this video had an actual *street* skating scene. USC was still around, they skated random shit on sidewalks (something that has been regaining popularity in recent history), and got enough time at the D.W.P. benches to make it look like a plaza spot — not a “let’s hope we get more than two minutes to skate here” Hail Mary mission. With blockbuster skate videos still around the corner, southern California-based projects had yet to resemble six-month highlight reels from the same five handrail spots.

Heat Wave / End of Summer 2011

Fresh off stealing mad bottles from the Rick Ross concert last night (here’s Ross without his trademark sunglasses), and combined with this morning’s crisp, early-fall temperature, it’s only right to present to you our End of Summer / Heat Wave video. It encompasses everything we were up to throughout the past three months: Barcelona, the Wave at Bowery Stadium, skating at night to beat the heat, and perhaps most impressively, somehow coming up with four or five minutes of New York footage entirely filmed in Manhattan (save one trick.) It’s also proof that our recent HD conversion had minimal effects on our attitudes towards production values.

Thanks to everyone who came out last night to support Quartersnacks, and the crew at Bowery Stadium for putting together a great event. Thanks to everyone else that helped us make this video possible as well. Until next summer…

Clip features Daniel Lebron, Doug Brown, Tyler Tufty, Thomas Taylor, Michael Mackrodt, Josh Velez, Andy Henrie, Mike Cuneo, Marcel Veldman, Sven Aerts, Andre Page, Ty Lyons, Corey Rubin, Jahmal Williams, Zered Bassett, Phil Rodriguez, Bryce Golder, Conor Fay, Sean Kelling, Justin Brock, Dan Plunkett, Emilio Cuilan, Mark Nardelli, Ritchard Swain, Alexander Mosley, and Young Chris. Cameos by Mannie Fresh and DJ Roctakon.

Pad’s quote about his party footage outdoing his skate footage came true…

Barcelona Update 1 of ?: Damm Lemon Edition

“I used to skate” on the way up to MACBA

Apparently, New York just had the hottest day since 1977. (No blackouts, right?) It’s gone above 80 degrees in Barcelona twice in the past week, so diverting your party money to a summer 2012 refuge fund might be a wise idea.

Below is a brief clip featuring Andre Page, Josh Velez, and Daniel Lebron. For those who may not know, one of the key perks of Barcelona for Americans is the legal “grey area” that exists for beer consumed on the street. Damm Lemon is one of the three key beverages (the others being Damm Estrella and water) for American travelers in the city. (Visible here along with other consumer goods unavailable to the American market, like marijuana flavored beer and Lays cheeseburger potato chips.)

We’ve only hit maybe 25% of the spots on the list, and have three days left, so hopefully there will be another quick Damm Estrella edit up in the next couple of days, in addition to a more extensive one later in the summer. Shout out to all the locals, and everyone over at Nike for looking out for us.
