As far as “Summer Trip to New York” clips go, the skating in this is tops by non-pro team clip standards. These dudes somehow skate every spot in New York (e.g. when was the last time someone filmed a line at Breezy Ledges? Jeff Pang in 1997?) Obligatory Wu-Tang song included.

Spot Updates: 1) It happened months ago, but finally just got around to updating the spot page…the ledge-to-flatbar in Battery had its runway knobbed. Some Japanese guy with quick feet will still get a trick on it by next summer. 2) The grate at Union Square that people propped up to skate over the pillar is gone. It’s a gap now. 3) The Blue Banks in Albany are being turned into an official skatepark. Even if it ends up being some pre-fab crap, at least you get to skate the banks worry-free now. Funnest spot north of Tompkins :)

LurkNYC without the NYC: Cyrus Bennett in ‘Braindead’

As recently discussed, nobody from the northeast really escapes to Miami anymore. People go to L.A., sure, but San Francisco has become a go-to winter refuge for those easily dissuaded by that traffic-laden city some 400 miles down the coast. (Cue up every person who’s ever said “S.F. is a lot like an east coast city, except _____.” Maybe we make it out there one day and discover just how inaccurate of a job rappers and FTC videos do in portraying it.)

Nick vonWerssowetz‘s new video is a twelve-minute project filmed during a three-week hideout in San Francisco. It has been online for 48 hours, which means it’s pretty old by today’s internet standards. There are standalone versions of every other Cyrus Bennett part on YouTube, so why not? Below is his closer from Braindead.

You can watch Braindead in full here. There’s a Kingpin Skinny Pimp song in it. (Also why hasn’t someone skated to “One Life 2 Live” yet? Seems like a missed opportunity, especially given the past few years worth of videos’ heavy indulgence in lo-fi Memphis stuff. Night footage edit to “Midnight Hoes” maybe?)

P.S. Whatever reputation for, uh, “eccentric vagrants” San Francisco may have — New Jersey has it beat, at least for this week.

It has been online since Thursday night, but Looney Bin is really solid. Best LurkNYC video yet. Every Cyrus part gets better, the homie Adam Zhu has chill tricks, and that dude Jason Byoun’s part is great. If you’re still not at terms with Drake, you could probably find solace in the music there too.

Someone compiled a more official Jordan-inspired skate shoe rundown than our rinky dink Jordan at 50 post from February.

The Theories of Atlantis site has DVDs of The Brodies for sale. It’s $25, but includes the past three Elkin vids, fancy packaging and a photo book. The video has gotten more replay than pretty much anything else from the past few months (A.K.A. anything else since Beef Patty and Solo Jazz.) Good to see not-neccesarily-pro New York skaters in their thirties still killing it. Also, Ishod is one of the best but Leo Gutman won S.O.T.Y. on QS.

Beef Patty is Now Online

For the second week in a row, we are going to postpone Monday Links until Tuesday in order to feature an excellent New York-based skateboard video.

Johnny Wilson’s new video, Beef Patty, is now live on Vimeo. It’s from the same crew behind Video and Space Heater, and somehow on a whole level better than those past videos, which were both quite good themselves. All three came out in the past year-and-a-half, so how these dudes manage to get so much footage while avoiding familiar Manhattan trappings is pretty absurd (always nice to see a New York video without a single trick at the Courthouse Drop.) Add it to the rotation along with Solo Jazz, and pass the link on to any of your dumb friends who have ever given that “The skateparks are ruining skateboarding” speech.

New parts from Cyrus Bennett, Paul Tucci, Andrew Wilson, Loose Trucks Max, no apparent Corey Rubin sighting :( and appearances from a whole bunch of others. If you need an explanation as to how Loose Trucks Max got his name, please consult the close-up of the boardslide at the beginning of his part (15:30.)

You should also probably follow Johnny’s Vimeo account because he has a throwaway reel live on there every week or two.
