Pretty much all of our collective experiences of Copenhagen are within the bipolar high that is the Scandinavian Summer. For a bit of a reality check of what it’s like on the opposite side of that seasonal coin, our friends at Dancer dropped an “Endless Winter” montage featuring Hjalte, David Stenström + others. Still seems pretty fun, tbh.
Some nice bits of New York footage in the Charlotte-based AVENUE video parts that have been dropping across a few outlets: Vague has Jermaine Whittaker’s part, which includes a 10/10 Three Up Three Down performance, and Skate Jawn has Ethan Kaplan’s part, which includes a NBD (?) ollie at the white building plaza across from Pyramid Ledges.
Late start to the annual “Year in Review” series, but we weren’t about to let up on one of our favorite annual traditions in this occasionally great but more often awful year. We are going to condense the first installment into ten entries for the sake of time. One a week from here on out though :)
The 2016 reality of bust-free spots in the nation’s largest city is grim (e.g. they knobbed a bump in the ground this year, and people are literally interrupting their lives to argue about the placement of a trash can on the street.) And so, New York’s underemployed population of industrial design grads began to ransack the plastic horizontal beams off construction barriers city-wide, and stacking them to create some sort of pathetic poverty row parking block.
Watched this guy Ruben Spelta skate at Milano Centrale this past summer and it was insane. Dude is a good follow on Instagram, but this compilation video should bring you up to speed for now. Who’s everyone got for best steez 2k16 award?

Did you know there was a time when John Cardiel had a pro snowboard, and Burton advertised in Thrasher? Our bud Alex Dymond just released a book entitled Snow Beach, which chronicles an era when snowboarding was very much an offseason activity for skaters, with tons of crossover via fashion, style, etc. from skateboarding.

Today marks ten years since the release of The Inspiration, which was 95% of the way as incredible of an album as TM101, this website’sfoundingpieceof scripture. (Even did a tribute post to it the day it leaked online, and distinctly remember listening to nothing else that winter.) There really is no greater three-peat of motivational speaking than the first three Jeezy albums. The guy has nothing left to prove #jeezysaves.
New part from Lurker Lou for Prizefighter, which features a ton of chill avant-garde noseslide maneuvers. Slappy Flushing is up there for N.S.O.T.Y. honors.
For anyone keeping track of WATTBA #musicsupervision… Free’s Lucien Clarke + “I’m The Plug” compilation part is great, and the new Cell Jawn video features a sslloowweedd rendition of “Plastic Bag” + an emphasized Conor Prunty flick. FYI your “Summer Trip To N.Y.” clip prob isn’t good enough to waste “Scholarships” on ;)
Interviewing young skaters without ~a decade’s worth of coverage is a tough assignment, especially if you’re trying to avoid asking the same shit you asked the last young skater (“Soooo, like Instagram and Street League? So crazy right?”). The source shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, but Chromeball pretty much did an under-25 skater interview as best as you could possibly do it with Ishod Wair.
The body varial has had a bit of a resurgence in recent years, and there’s still a raging battle in ballcourts throughout the city for someone to do it over a vertical can (sans bump.) SMLTalk stops to contend that the best has already happened for said trick.
Can’t remember the last time a bunch of people in New York kept bringing up a foreign Vimeo upload as much as the Parisian “Daydream” clip from last week.
Boil the Ocean on all potential S.O.T.Y. candidates. I’ll buy everyone who reads this site a crook shove at the bar if it ends up not being A.V.E. In related news, a Max Palmer two-peat is not entirely impossible for Q.S.S.O.T.Y.

Chromeball has a great interview with Thomas Campbell about the early days of skate magazines, which also touches on the making of the first Supreme video / short film from 1996. “Some people had beef with those [Euro] articles because they felt those countries didn’t support skateboarding. Whatever. Who cares. We’re on the Earth. Go skate whatever you want.” You heard your boy Mars got water now?
