Two J-John the Don Monday Links headliner images in four weeks? Sure. Photo by Jason Lecras.

Okay, let’s get all the Workshop-related links out of the way first…

Manolo’s Mixtapes put together a seven-minute tribute edit from all the Alien videos.

Jake Johnson sits down with Thrasher radio to talk about the Alien situation, the slappy 5050 down the Clipper ledge, and why Brandon Turner broke up with his shorty, all while playing some Elton John and Billy Joel songs.

Boil the Ocean has a good ramble about the end of Alien Workshop / “the biggest board company to go out since Plan B.” (No Blueprint 2.0-esque reboots pls thx.)

Joe Castrucci released a statement regarding the future of Habitat.

[ end of Alien Workshop-related links ]

Rodrigo TX skates Three Up Three Down and Lil’ Lui ollies over the entire Rector Street Bench in the Adidas Skate Copa NYC street edit. (Back smith down the Battery Park wall rail = the new backside flip over the Wall Street Gap?)

Between that Adidas clip, and the new Gavin Nolan “Five Trick Fix,” there’s really no reason to skate the median ledge on 111th and 7th ever again.

Frozen in Carbonite reviews the latest batch of Washington D.C-based skate videos, while comparing each to Scandal, House of Cards, Veep, etc. We are also admirably reminded to revisit Bobby Worrest’s switch 360 flip up / fakie hardflip / switch 360 flip down White Steps line from Right Foot Forward.

Also also also, this rather vague “Underdog Skate Part” #listicle from Kingpin reminds us to revisit Jack Sabback’s part from the 2005 I-Path promo. The revert out of the switch nosegrind at Universitat is cute.

Another black and white one from Pop Trading Company out in The Netherlands.

Apparently, when you comply to last year’s #TRENDWATCH by skating on televisions, there’s a chance you end up in a real-life version of that Simpsons episode where Homer found the Tron wall inside of his closet.

We often joke about the “Skaters see the world differently” cliché around here, but Jonathan Mehring’s “Frame of Reference” feature for Bitchslap magazine is awesome.

A two-minute fan remix of Alex Olson appearances in web clips throughout the years.

BTW, Yaje is a movie star now

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: The end of the first half of WCF Game 3 was pretty intense. How about that Ibaka comeback?

#TBT on a Friday: Jahmal Williams 411 Commercial

jahmal

Or is #FBF Flashback Friday still a #thing?

With “cherry” out, Static IV might be the last major video left to look forward to this year. (*Insert blurb about full-length videos not being what they used to be*) We all want to see a new Tierney or Aaron Herrington part, but Jahmal and Quim having sections is probably the most awaited aspect of the project, at least for the born pre-1990 skate nerd contingent. Anticipation for both has a bit of an east coast Pretty Sweet cloud around it, in that there’s an understanding this will likely be the last time we see a substantial batch of footage from these guys.

After watching Quim’s Overground Broadcasting part for the 100th time, a subsequent YouTube binge revealed his seldom-seen Adidas commercial that ran in 411 back in 1998. Everyone would rather forget what most major shoe companies’ first jab at a skate program in the nineties looked like, but Adidas kinda killed it with these commercials. They were shot on film and covered a pretty eclectic team (Paulo Diaz, Quim, Jahmal, Matt Beach.) Jahmal’s version somehow isn’t online, and we have a FQ one left over from last year’s “Lost Tapes” re-edit, so here it is below, uncut.

Though probably to a lesser extent than how Gino is “the Wu-Tang guy,” between this and his Eastern Exposure 3 part, Jahmal is sorta the Gil Scott-Heron guy. That’s why we subconsciously ended up using the most Gil Scott-Heron-sounding song not by Gil Scott-Heron in the aforementioned remix video.

Have a good weekend everyone. (70 degrees tomorrow!!!)

Unrelated but important: New all-China Lucas Puig part on the TWS site. He does a nollie crook nollie varial flip out in it and it somehow looks awesome.

#MERRY #CHRISTMAS #TO #ALL

R.I.P. to founding Three 6 Mafia member, Lord Infamous, who died in his mother’s house of unknown causes this past Friday. Carroll was the only dude to skate to Lord Infamous in a major video part with his second section in Fully Flared, but there’s also this old Bryan Herman Pharmarcy part and not-so-old Adrian Vega part.

People in Yemen don’t have a whole lot to do, do they?

Thrasher spoke with Brandon Westgate about his flatground flip tricks, among other things. “It’s a trip when a flatground trick that’s easy gets people stoked more than things I killed myself for.” Relate-ability v.s. Gravity, man.

Theories of Atlantis interviewed all the dudes from The Brodies video.

Boil the Ocean’s “Now That’s What I Call Skateboarding” / Top 10 Parts of 2013 countdown has begun. Miles Silvas @ #10 and Donovan Piscopo @ #9.

Our homie Joe Cups (of Lurkers notoriety) is selling his new project, Stay Away, over on his website. Teaser here. He also has a new commercial for Vans Vault with some familiar faces in it.

A new promo for the Westchester-based PFP3 video.

Adidas in the Pacific Northwest and Norwegian Huf in…Norway.

The best and worst of Montreal skateboarding over on the Dime site. Ritch Homie Swain A.K.A. Lord SMS also put together a Dime mix last week.

Career-long Wu-Tang devotee, Gino Iannucci, talks about Wu-Tang.

We talk about the two respective “Shit” remixes: Despite everyone coming to terms with Drake over the past twelve months (us included), Pastor Troy is on the Atlanta remix. Pastor Troy > Drake, therefore the ATL remix > the regs remix. Last part in the next Baker video should be edited to the original song. E-mail me maybe???

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Remember when the Knicks drafted Andy Rautins so a bunch of Syracuse alumns could cheer for him in garbage time over Lance Stephenson? Whatever, he’d be playing for Denver right now if they had :(

#SKATEEVERYFEWDAYS

pupecki

Check out this clip of Tony Durao, undoubtedly one of the most talented young skaters out east right now, skating the Nike Go Skate Day barge from last weekend. Tony’s new web part will go live on QS next Monday, July 8. It’s insane.

Not as exciting (unlike the kids, we can only skate every few days, hence the #skateverydamnday hashtag’s appropriation for the socialite 21-and-over crowd), but here’s the forty seconds of footage we were able to procure in a few hours of skating on the barge. Mainly posting this because it includes Corey Rubin sightings and those are hard to come by outside of John Wilson-produced videos. There are rumors going around about the obstacles from that park getting donated somewhere, which would be nice considering it’s better than the Tribeca Park.

Wow, Chrome Ball is shutting down :(

In brighter news, Chrome Ball has a sick new post from the weekend dedicated to the art of curb skating, though people really need to relax with assuming everything young people do now is done for the sake of “hipster 80s throwback irony.”

Never saw this when it came out in 2012 — Sneeze magazine interviews Chad Muska about his first board graphic, providing some interesting details on how the skate industry works, specifically how a board gets made and printed.

An iPhone clip from the crew behind the \m/ video. There’s also discussion about art, influences and human nature in the comments for this non-iPhone clip from the same squad.

They started uploading more parts from Mama’s Boys on YouTube. Only sixty left.

Some B-roll from the great In Crust We Trust video. (Full video here.)

Boil the Ocean discusses the value of powerslides in 2013 and contends that Adidas web clips are the new Transworld videos.

Speaking of Adidas web clips, with their latest Madrid venture, Rodrigo TX joins some lofty company in the running for best fakie flip ever done, likely somewhere between Kalis at Newport (the undebatable #1 on this list) and Jerry Hsu at Three Up Three Down (the less-fashionable SF one.) Fakie flips are a big topic around here.

“Stop it, we give McDonalds hundreds every day.”

Someone made this.

Quote of the Week: “Coming back to New York is like getting out of jail.” — Billy Rohan. Right, because where else does this happen?

The Knicks are stupid, but what else is new?

The Footage Machine Known as Mark Sucio & A Corresponding 21 Questions

mark suciu courthouse fakie flip

Do skate companies watch footage of Mark Suciu and believe they are entitled to demand more from their riders than they already do — similar to how young professionals are “always clocked in” in the post-BlackBerry era?

Are less productive pros “mad?”

Have less productive pros offered him drugs in an effort to curb his productivity, thus leveling various playing fields and whatnot?

Does any Love Park 1.0 / “Eastern Exposure era” or Love Park 1.5 / “Photosynthesis era” skater (short of maybe Kalis) have a longer total running time of footage in their overall career than Mark Suciu’s 2012-2013 output?

What’s the expiration date on the “Love Park is back” narrative?

Does he “not count” because he’s from Cali?

Does Ishod “count” more because he’s not from Cali?

Can Philadelphia-area higher education facilities and their student loan affiliates please acknowledge the millions of dollars skateboarding has sent their way? A statue of Kalis and/or Stevie would be nice.
