Median Ledge

Spots: Uptown Manhattan — Harlem & Morningside

Spot: This ledge has been around forever, but people only started skating in recently due to it being a block away from Lenox Ledges. It rests on the median divider for 7th Avenue (it’s fairly mellow with cars and traffic up here), is a smooth granite-like material, probably a foot-and-a-half in height, and about six feet long. The run-up is smooth for both ways. The only catch is you need to weave around a nearby lamppost while grinding (still wide enough for tailslides), so be careful if you have a tendency to flail your arms.

Bust — ♦♦♦ / Half-and-half: People from the neighborhood plant flowers right alongside the ledge, so they may yell at you for skating here. People have been known to yell at you out their window (“I KNOW YOU’RE NOT MESSIN’ UP THOSE FLOWERS!”), or come out of their apartments. If they do, it’s their neighborhood, so you should probably abide by their request and leave.

Location: 111th Street and Seventh Avenue / Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard. Take the 2 or 3 to 110th Street, skate west on 110th for one block, make a right on Seventh Avenue, and skate north for one block. It’s in the middle of the street.
