305 Report — Elijah Odom’s Venture Part

There is a specific genre of Miami spot that you see driving around some randomass part of the city, where the entire car will go: “wait…that’s it?” In 70% of cases, that reaction expands to mean: “that lil’ ass bump to that bigass rail …is the fuckin’ spot that everyone does all the shit on?” Sometimes you’ll make it four, five minutes into an Andrew video and not see a single spot where you think, “Wow, that looks fun, I want to skate that” because they all look like the aforementioned. (It makes sense when you have one of the best skateparks in the country, your time on the street is spent punishing yourself. A high-low atonement, yaknow?)

That is obviously a massive compliment to the skaters who skate those spots, because should you get out the car, two or three additional annoying variables present themselves to somehow make the spot …worse. And for a pretty long while now, the king of these sort of incredibly cutty and often too-tall Miami spots, has been Elijah Odom.

The slams themselves do a lot of the heavy-lifting in each trick’s lore, but in this part, a spot offs itself rather than let him get away with a heelflip crook, and on another, you can quite literally see the caked-on dust rising from its edge the second he locks in. All of ’em are like that.
