Area Code is a new full-length video out of The Bronx by Edgar Padilla. Features an opener from Angel Fonseca, and an ender part from Olu Stanley. And like any video out of The Bronx, it feels refreshingly different than the Tompkins-Mural Ledge-Pyramids Ledges-whatever circuit we find ourselves in on a typical #content hunt.

‘Where’s My Morning Paper?’

Went up to Canada for the holiday weekend, hence Monday Links are, um, “going up” on a Tuesday :( As you may tell from the photo above, it did not go great.

Josh Stewart remixed Kevin Tierney’s Static IV part with some alternate angles, different tricks, and a new song. Try and find a recent New York-based part where someone skates an old spot in a new way as many times as Kev does. One of the best and most original parts of the year, for sure.

A Javier Sarmiento part filmed in maybe two days with bad editing and filming worse than what’s expected of a Quartersnacks clip is still better than pretty much anything. Dude’s going to be 50 one day, still looking cooler than anyone on a skateboard.

Ripped Laces put together a #listicle of the best pedestrian v.s. skateboarder interactions from skate videos. “That’s why you should skate in the street: to meet weirdos.” That rationale has also been used to justify riding MTA trains, but the frustrations might outweigh the entertainment.

Well, now we know that Bobby Shmurda’s rise to stardom will coincide with a plethora of applicable #musicsupervision choices for Bobby Worrest re-edits. Also, here’s some B-side clips of Bobby from the 2000s, several of which look unfamiliar.

There’s no need for a “review” of Static IV. The video is great. The premiere was one of the funnest skate video experiences ever (New York had the first viewing, so everyone was unaware of the dual video format, Jake part, and plenty of other surprises), and the physical copy feels more like a fancy Criterion DVD than a skate video. All the snarks about the video’s endless delays from these past 7-50 years were eradicated with the final product.

Everyone has had time to properly digest the video, so here are ten loose observations in a format lifted from Chris Nieratko’s “17 Things You Didn’t Know” Vice piece. The timeframe for spoilers has expired by this point, and some of this might have already been discussed on the T.F. bench. Fair warning if you’re under a rock.

‘Bout to Leave the Crib With a Couple of My Pirates

Jahmal Williams has a video interview with Japan’s Far East Skate Network about Static 4, along with some indoor park footage afterwards. “I’d rather see Jahmal do a 5050” is the new “I’d rather see Gino push” for the rest of 2014.

ICYMI and also on the topic of Static 4, Chris Nieratko interviewed Josh Stewart for a 17 Things You Didn’t Know About Static 4 feature on Vice, and Live Skateboard Media has yet another interview with Josh, which tackles a lot of unchartered topics from his recent interviews, e.g. music re-usage boundaries in skate videos.

Needless to say, this isn’t the Bobby Shmurda clip everyone has been expecting.

If you started skating around the height of Shorty’s reign as the coolest skateboard company around, you no doubt looked up to Sammy Baptista on account of his #youngestofdacamp status. Well, while we wait for O’Dell to (hopefully) complete the Muska and/or Shorty’s Epicly Later’d, the “My Name Is” series caught up with Sammy to look back on his skate career. (The dude still rips btw.)

#musicthatdoesntmatch, except we’re not really ones to talk…

It has only been ~two years since the skateboard internet embraced #listicle #culture, and writers have already run out of ideas.

Speaking of ideas and #listicles, here are ten skateboard “innovations” that never caught on. [Turns out the entire concept and research behind it was from a series Vert is Dead did this past spring, so consult their posts.] What about Ollie Pop Bubble Gum, Spoonfish Board Locks, Dooks shock pads, bearing “rims,” and Aircraft Skateboards?

People are skating the early-2000s classic little kid spot, Central Park “Hubba” again! (At least in the new video blog from the Beef Patty dudes.)

Trash cans are the new picnic tables.

Manolo’s “20 Years of Chocolate” remix will bring a tear to your eye.

Still one of the craziest things ever done on a skateboard. Dude was too futuristic.

SMLTalk has been doing some hard-hitting investigative journalism as of late. First, they use Kevin Bradley’s bump-to-bar grab from “cherry” as a springboard to assess the history of acceptable grabs on street, and though it went online a few weeks ago, this piece on the demise of the pop shove-it is also worth your consideration.
