Jav. Westside. Reda.

Bobshirt interviews have kinda replaced Epicly Later’d as the eminent series for telling stories about the good old days. Every edition is great, but the new one with Giovanni Reda is a truly special. He’s an encyclopedia of New York skateboarding. Also #respect on the comments re: having no shame in fanning out in adult years :)

It’s incredible how the crowd consensus on a new skatepark in New York can go from “It’s so fun, flows well, actually has straight [fucking] ledges” to “it’s too dusty, everything is uphill and awkward” in 72 hours. Are we the worst? Probably. NY Skateboarding has photos of the completed Fat Kid Skatepark in downtown Brooklyn.

Some people just aren’t that bright yaknow?

With so many skate videos out every day, it’s rare to see something that truly reminds you of no other skate clip that you’ve ever seen before. A trip to a string of ancient cities outside of Moscow known as the “Golden Ring” by Russia’s Absurd Skateboards. It’s trippy man.

TWS put its feature on Colin Read and Spirit Quest online.

“Skate the streets while you still can.” Thrasher has an interview with Bobby and Hjalte about the making of “Looks OK To Me.”

Straight on backside 180 over the Columbus Park rail and other points of interest in the sixth installment LurkNYC’s “Mean Streets” series.

“The beauty of the skate industry is you make lifelong friendships. Once you’re in there, if you’re working hard and doing a good job you’re basically in for life.” Skateboard Story interviewed Mike Gilbert, the director of Thrasher‘s website, about running a skateboard media company in 2016.

Jenkem followed up with Billy Rohan after that Politico story about him meeting with Tr*mp came out last week. Didn’t actually happen, but honestly, I’m not putting anything past a dude who got permits to skate in front of the White House and rights to print federal emblems on skateboards back in 2009…

Boil the Ocean tackles the election, reports of Cliché’s demise (“confirmed” on this?), and Canada excelling at everything this past Drake-dominated half-decade. #morelife

Nine-minute B-roll of some ATL (?) dudes skating New York this past summer.

“As I float away, it must be a dream…” 90-minute best of Mr. 3-2 mix. S/O Martorialist.

QS Sports Russell Westbrook Desk: Come on now. Dagger in Houston. Hey, Russ is at the Garden this time next week btw ;)

Two favorite songs right now ♥ If you see Thando, buy him a drink.

Living Every Day Like It’s Spring Break

Had some leftover footage from the past couple trips + a few things that might’ve potentially ended up in the now [probably?] defunct QS Drop Offs series. Threw this # feel good # clip together :) It’s a spring-themed fall video, and though it has summer footage from foreign counties, we limited it to places where the summer feels like it does in the city right now (66 today!) Heard a new skatepark that took thirty years to complete just opened up, maybe see you guys over there later ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Features: Johnny Wilson, Josh Wilson, E.T, Tyler Warren, Vincent Touzery, Max Palmer, Matt Perez, Tyler Tufty, Charles Rivard, John Franco, Pad Dowd, Adam Zhu, Tico, Hjalte Halberg, Louie Lopez, Jack Greer, Andrew Wilson, Daniel Kim.

Contributing Filmers: Pad Dowd.

Also, gonna just leave this here…

Godspeed Wavy’s. Although you got a bit too live these past few years, I wouldn’t take back the hours I wasted standing around doing nothing if I could. Wouldn’t be caught dead standing in front of Spring Mart. R.I.P. to one of the final remnants of that neighborhood. Photo via Zach Baker.

“Knowing a lot about something little, and caring about it deeply – even something as ridiculous as grown men making four wheeled planks balance on two wheels – provides a microcosm within which we understand the consequences of those big, nebulous issues.” Didn’t expect this to pop up anywhere: Caught in the Crossfire with an insightful breakdown of the Brexit results, and how they will effect skateboarding.

The Complete History of the 12th & A Rainbow Curb: April 2016 — Later in April 2016.

“It’s 50/50; it’s hard to see, but if you want to live your passion then you have to learn to live with it, or you find a regular job and you go skate on the weekend.” Lucas Puig on making adult decisions that impact skateboarding for a living.

Is Rodrigo TX the new Rodrigo TX?

Literal, on-the-nose #musicsupervision usually get the side-eye at this point, but always thought “Baltimore” would make a great video part song, and also all this Jason Spivey footage is awesome. Is the audio jacked for everyone else though?

Village Psychic travels back to the moonboot era when there’d be seven logos on one shoe, and does a wear test of the DC Relay with John Shanahan ♥ Daytime midtown footage 4 ever ♥ (Is Columbus Circle mellow to skate again?)

NY Skateboarding has pics of the McCarren Park renovation if you haven’t seen it yet.

The internet has a tendency to desensitize us from having to confront other people’s unfiltered brains and emotions, and unfortunately, that played out a bit on the skate internet last year as Billy Rohan, an incredible person who has done a ton for skateboarding in the city, went through it. Like the quote says, “depression is a flaw in chemistry, not character” and sometimes, there’s a lot more going on than somebody “acting crazy.” ANYWAY, Vice caught up with Billy, who’s been doing much better, for a video short on what he’s been through.

An interview with the filmer behind the Rios Crew. Not skating the same spot twice sounds exhausting ;)

Do you believe in life after Love? Go Skate Day 2016 in Philly, via the Sabotage boys.

Rockaway excursions and sweaty summer vibez in Genny’s new iPhone clip.

Taji did the whole awkward Vice host thing with Gino Iannucci for “TAJCAM.”

Dude remember Nadia footwear? Of course you don’t, but guess who does? :)

Chill lil’ Barcelona montage with five Penny tricks at the 1:21 mark.

This is weird. ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT..

Quote of the Week: “Until we elect Trump, the British are the dumbest people on the planet.” — Dylgr

Shout out to my man Torey Goodall for skating to “June 27th” twelve years ago for a Baby Steps B-roll part. Who else you know can go from Van Morrison to Big Moe in the same video? Also shout out to all my Cancers bro.

Marijuana Smells Like Drugs

If you came on here searching for a part by a noted New Rochelle skateboarder that has been promised to drop on 4/20 — it’s being worked on. And no, it has nothing to do with the holiday in which companies release hemp-themed collaborations.

In the meantime, please enjoy this nine-year-old video of Billy Rohan going to a pro-weed rally at Tompkins with a megaphone that has a “legalize” sticker on it, to inform protesters that marijuana makes your breath smell like a bong. It ranks as one of the top three achievements ever to take place at Tompkins Square Park, right along with Mike Wright making it to the final round of the 2003 éS Game of S.K.A.T.E. without flipping his board a single time (fakie 540 shuv-its fam), and Slicky Boy leaving his V-card on one of the green benches. I know it by heart and it still makes me laugh.

Happy birthday to Life is Goodie.

HD video blog #11 from Johnny Wilson even though Transworld commenters hate it ;)

Forrest Edwards ain’t for contest judges, he’s for the people.

Shocked to see that the new Staten Island skatepark has straight, normal ledges. NY Skateboarding takes a look at Faber Park. Looks like Astoria but with more hubbas.

Didn’t know bearing companies really go on “tour” — Bones Swiss has a new Euro tour vid out with a bunch of really good B. Worrest footage. Sorta miss the era when you could still put a really long manual in a video :(

This has been online for eight years, but saw it reposted a bit on Tumblr: raw footage of Anthony Correa from 1997. Mostly Houston and S.F. stuff. Wish there was more footage of the dude out there (or at least a version of his Mixtape 2 part that didn’t feature a rapper who actually said “my crew packed full of nuts like an Almond Joy.”) Also, that back smith on the Seaport bench in the first Static video is still reigning atop the smith grind hall of fame nearly twenty years later.

Not sure which “Summer Trip to New York” cycle this should even count for…it came out in 2015 but was seemingly filmed in 2014. Anyway, some Australians who really love helicopter shots skate around New York for a bit. The kickflip up / turn around / switch flip down line at Columbus Park is awesome.

Russians produce bleaker skate footage than even the Brits. They love tracksuits too.

Always surprised to remember that Riverside Skatepark still exists.

Happy to hear the lease at House of Vans was renewed. Place was a real lifesaver these past few winters when you just want to listen to Drake and skate with the boys.

There are the Boil the Ocean posts that I sorta get, and then there are the ones that I sorta don’t. The new one is in the latter category.

The low barrier in front of Punjabi on Avenue A and Houston is gone.

R.I.P. Chinx Drugs. “Let him be remembered for being one of the few rappers who didn’t waste Harry Fraud’s production.”

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Iguodala probably should’ve been called for the foul here, but Steph hit a shot behind two three point-lines. Big no thanks to the Los Angeles Clippers for allowing this excruciating-to-watch Houston team to make it to the conference finals. You guys are horrible and hate people who watch basketball.

Quote of the Week: “Vaping is the rollerblading of smoking.” — Billy Rohan

Ok, who do we talk to about the New York version?
