Yo the new full-length Gang Corp video is incredible. Impossible to watch it and not get hyped. Made me wanna go to midtown and hit spots we haven’t tried skating in years.

Damn, Delancey Curb was lit last night.

Please donate what you can to the Harold Hunter Foundation, which is doing a rout of fundraising right now. “A donation big or small will help enable them to provide mentoring, life skills workshops and college/career readiness activities for young people who would otherwise have no access to these vital services.” The best skater from New York is a H.H.F. alumnus so they’re doing real good work over there ♥

The Dominican government DMed Luis Tolentino and asked him to represent D.R. in the Olympics. Idc what your position on the Olympics is…that’s pretty beast.

Boil the Ocean is tweaking its business model away from long-winded musings on the world of skateboarding to give us the Uber of skateboard filmers.

The latest episode of Skate Muzik has a detailed interview with Eli Gesner about the music supervision from the early Zoo York videos.

Jake, Zered, Eli + Mehring go to a place not known for having spots and look for spots.

A minute of new footage of Wade D. skating Toronto.

Jesse and his dad went to Hawaii to film a video for Stussy.

The Tennyson Corp. put together a cameo-laden compilation of Jaime Reyes footage, the first girl I can remember seeing footage of in an east coast skate video. #respect.

Someone found a stash of photos of Pepe Martinez skating his driveway in 1988.

Spot Updates1) The long Philly step on Kenmare is a wrap. 2) The city quickly rebuilt the Triangle and it sucks.

Brian Kelley has spent the past couple years searching for all sorts of ephemera from New York City’s transit system. His collection became this massive book that is essentially the unofficial history of MTA merch. Worth every penny for any sort of New York history nerd or graphic design geek.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Get your shoe, man.

Quote of the Week:
Pryce’s 30-Year-Old Friend: “Oh yeah, I’ve read about Finstas and Rinstas.”
Pryce’s 16-Year-Old Brother: “Where’d you read that, Parent Magazine?”

Gonna use this day before 10/17 to remind everyone about “I pull up in a Zonda same color lasagna.”

Obvious first link: Three minutes of Rick Howard B-sides from the past ~five years.

The always brilliant Tennyson Corporation compiled all of Kalis and Stevie’s footage to appear in issues of 411 into fuzzy feeling remix video. Yo all those flip tricks, wow.

2016 Q.S.S.O.T.Y Daniel Kim London footage via “Regulate 005” from Jenkem.

Mark Humienik made a six-minute Hi8 (?) montage of the Bronze boys.

“Man, I’m just trying to live. I ain’t trying to pay no fucking dues. You only pay dues if you want something out of it. I’m not paying anything. I just want to be able to wake up and be able to go skateboard every day.” — An interview with Philly Santosuosso from Humidity Skateshop for Real’s Actions Realized fundraiser.

Damn, so if the 2015 #trendwatch was backside 360ing out of 5050s, is the 2017 #trendwatch doing that no comply backside 360 where your foot doesn’t touch the ground out of 5050s? Who can even keep up man ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

“The resulting photos are personal and gorgeous, using LOVE as a subject to tell its own, final chapter and representing the parable of American urbanism: nothing lasts forever.” Adam Abada re: Jonathan Rentschler’s book on the final years of Love Park.

Someone made an Antonio-only mix of the previous Numbers clip.

Haven’t listened to either yet tbh, because I’m typing this with no headphones from a cafe where the coffee tastes like ramen, but here’s the latest episode of The Bunt with Mark Suciu, and an episode of Thrasher radio with Gonz. You know what to expect ;)

“It seems that defensive architecture, even as it becomes commonplace and increasingly surrounds us, still goes under most people’s radar, which makes the problem all the more insidious.” Village Psychic has a cool interview about using sculpture to raise awareness about how public space is becoming less public.

Boil the Ocean post for those who don’t read Boil the Ocean posts: “In Lieu of Some Longwinded and Semi-Coherent Blog Post, Here’s a Bunch of Justin Henry Tricks.”

Four minutes of Sremmlife B-sides from Mick Robbins.

So happy that Gunplay and Mozzy found each other

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: As everyone mentally shifts from “Wow, the Warriors are going 16-0 in the postseason” to “wow, maybe this is going seven!” — allow us to revisit the complete 2016 timeline of J.R. Smith partying shirtless from Vegas to Cleveland. We thought this shit was going four last year too.

Quote of the Week: “Just wait until I fucking tell the habibis back in New York that they sold me half a chicken with no sauce.” — Josh Velez re: Copenhagen Halal food

Heard it’s finally summer back home ♥ :)

And the summer reminds me of Fetty Wap :( Miss you bro.

Is E.T. still in Spain? Photo by Zach Baker

New spring goods now live on Alltimers.com. Just don’t expect a text back from Pryce.

but is E.T. still in Spain?

Over the weekend, there was a scare that Shorty’s was being demolished. Although it ended up being a miscommunication between the city and a private company, part of the structure was demolished, but much of the spot remains in tact. The Shorty’s crew met with the mayor of Newark today, and you can read an update here.

Jason Byoun wallies off of snow.

Bunches and bunches of interviews this week…

Super refreshing to see an interview with a nineties pro from the east coast that doesn’t tread the bitter waters that cover so many recollections of that time period. Chromeball interview #99 is with civil engineer, Andy Stone. Anndd Twitter’s saying the newly surfaced footage of him belongs in the Smithsonian.

Speedway Mag posted its extended interview with Josh Stewart about the entire Static series on the occasion of Theories’ ten-year anniversary. (The edited version originally appeared on the Keen Distribution site if some bits seem familiar.)

Pontus Alv interviews Johnny Wilson and then Pontus Alv interviews Bobby Puleo.

Cafe Creme blog interviewed R.B. Umali.

A Minnesotan asks a good question: why isn’t Chicago a bigger deal in skateboarding?

“Elsewhere in Los Angeles, Jim Greco boils.” As discussed last week, skateboarding has doubled down on angst while angsty icons of the 2000s have rebranded themselves with a newfound focus on straightforward skateboarding. Boil the Ocean considers our age of the self-concious comeback in skateboarding.

Consult aforelinked Andy Stone interview for context on why people still fawn over 411 videos. Tennyson comes through with another compilation, this time an eleven-minute mash-up Carl Shipman and Tom Penny, maybe the only guy out there who can keep your attention with twenty-year-old contest footage :)

This Rowan Zorilla Instagram comp is a good time.

The Northern Co. goes all-city in their five-minute “Summer Trip to New York” montage. (Ok fine, they don’t go to Staten Island — has there ever been a truly all-city summer montage though?)

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week Year[?]: Who is James Harden again?

Quote of the Week
Conor Prunty: “It took me like two years to learn how to ollie.”
Jesse Alba: “My dad is still learning how to ollie, he’s been skating for like 40 years.”

dude

Gotta get back on it, sorry :(

It’s the Sixth Time Getting Kicked Out

ludlow bar

Wake up, take a sip of Ace of Spaces like it’s water

After a twenty-plus year run on Ludlow Street between Hester and Canal, the photogenic bar that was most photogenically [switch] ollied over by Quimothy Cardona and most recently ollied over by Michael Carroll (also a one-time nearest spot to the G-Man’s circa 2009 flophouse residence, and the ender in the second QS clip ever), has been replaced by a much higher, un-ollieable bar (until Aldrin Garcia shows up or something…) Thanks to James from Labor for the tip.

Speaking of which — a few seconds of new Carroll footage in New York.

This edit was sick… Marshall with a new one featuring Kevin Bradley, Sage, T.J., Troy and the rest of the Hardies Hardware dudes. Skating starts at roughly the 2:30 mark.

This is an incredible undertaking. Over the course of multiple letters sent to him in jail, the Chrome Ball Incident managed to facilitate an in-depth, fully autobiographic interview with the currently incarcerated Lenny Kirk.

Best New Jersey trick of 2015? Via Paul Young’s thoroughly awesome Bleach video.

A heartwarming / potentially tear-inducing Christmas gift from the most astute golden era Girl/Chocolate nostalgists working today: Goldfish extras, remixed.

Village Psychic and Danny Falla did a wear test for one of the earliest non-Dunk Nike SB models. Shout out to everyone who stocked up on $20 pairs of these and E-Cues from Jersey Gardens circa 2003.

Monster Children interviewed the coolest skateboarder of all-time.

Odds & Ends… 1) Jason Byoun sneaks into the Brooklyn Banks. 2) Cell Jawn #19. 3) Raw footage of J John the Don in Philly via Bust Crew. 4) New York edit via Waylon Bone featuring a handful of the names you often see in New York edits. 5) Some new Rich Homie Juan footage in the second “Futur” edit by Yoan Taillandier. 7) Some “Sequence 1” outtakes in HD video blog #17 from Johnny Wilson.

Thanks to the crew at House of Vans for getting rid of the bowl that even people who are good at skating bowls didn’t like (i.e. Corey Rubin…the only person I know who’s good at bowls), and maximizing on all the space it freed up. If you have any New York-based friends who work for Vans, they’re gonna hate you by March ;)

“I even remember being quite shocked at the response during the premiere in Sheffield. I recall that there was a UK DC tour coming through and the same guys that owned the distribution that focused on DC – and all the USA board brands – looked heavily bummed at the impact the premiere made. It seems they might have been right, as the video was the heralding of legit UK companies.” Sidewalk with a detailed oral history on the video that more-or-less introduced an entire post-900/THPS generation of Americans to British skateboarding, Blueprint’s Waiting for the World.

Max Palmer made Skate Jawn-branded sewer caps that are kinda sorta skateable.

The Mira Conyo squad is premiering their new vid and releasing a new Heights-based skate zine uptown tonight. 4447 Broadway, off the 190th Street A train.

Boil the Ocean’s annual top ten video parts countdown is now underway.

Some progress shots of the skatepark being built in place of Fat Kid Spot.

How is this only happening now? Arizona Iced Tea officially has a skate team.

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Ran off on the plug twice

Quote of the Week: “Don’t walk up to me pretending like you’re going sober. I don’t care.” — T-Bird

Let’s end the last Monday Links post of the year off with 2015’s drunkest song.

P.S. In anticipation of #another #year, here’s one last chance to take 25% off the remaining goods in the webstore. Enter promo code “anotherone” when buying anything. Expires at midnight. Thanks for all the support throughout 2015.

Weekend Viewing: The Chocolate Tour 2000

chocolate tour 2000

These Tennyson Corporation remixes are turning into the skateboard version of posthumous 2Pac albums — it’s perfectly reasonable for us to pretend Girl/Chocolate 1.0 never disappeared each time they come out. We’re thus unable to fully fall in love with Cory Kennedy, no matter how much he may deserve our admiration, or even begin coming to terms with Raven, Stevie and those other immensely talented individuals who just don’t tug at our heartstrings the same way a color-blocked and tan khakied Carroll switch flip does. And good God, the Carroll switch flips in this video…

The latest ode to the best pair of companies to exist at the peak of their powers comes in the form of a B-sides video from the team as it constituted in The Chocolate Tour days. As good as that video is, you sorta wish the proliferation of DVDs in the 2000s coincided with skitless versions of skit-heavy videos — from The Chocolate Tour right down to Parental Advisory. The Tennyson version of the former is completely devoid of them, and is the best 12-minutes you could spend watching skateboarding this weekend. As with all of these Girl/Choc remixes, you’re stuck there wondering how so much of this could have been considered “outtakes” at the time.

Is there any skateboarder born before 1990 whose favorite skater isn’t Mike Carroll? And has this Tennyson guy been paid millions of dollars for his work yet? The Chocolate Tour 2000 has legitimately gotten more burn these past 24 hours than the official Four Star “Anthology” edit, which wasn’t too bad itself.

Previously: Kenny Anderson Pretty Sweet “Snack Pack” remix, Rick Howard “Super International Tour Zone” remix, Mike Carroll “Dog” Remix

P.S. All July 4th tees have been shipped. Have a good weekend.
