Don’t Make Me Remember Stuff

R.I.P. to the best T.F. box in years. It barely even lasted a week. The pre softball permit culture of the T.F. was its golden age. Imagine if the next generation of Americans has more skateboarders than baseball players, and they kick out the softball players with skateboard permits? That’ll be funny.

The editor behind Dog, the greatest remix compilation skate video ever, put together an hour-long compilation of Girl/Chocolate/Four Star tour footage, entitled Super International Tour Zone. Thanks again, you should own a share of the company.

Boil the Ocean rounded up all recent Pappalardo sightings, which mostly stem from his friends’ Instagram accounts. There seems to be a recurring theme of tricks on motor vehicles and 5050s.

Transworld offers a rap remix of Walker Ryan’s New York-heavy Perpetual Motion part, which is bound to put a smile on any backpacker’s face. Speaking of Pappalardo, Ryan’s trick on the manny pad-to-bank at Grant’s Tomb is nuts.

Matt Militano’s part in the \m/ video is great. The line at J Kwon is quite impressive and the hurricane grind shove-it out at Lenox Ledges is pretty chill too. (Lurker Lou is such a dick, man.) Did Adidas generate a year’s worth of content from its summer 2012 New York trip? NY Skateboarding compiled scans of New York-related content in this month’s crop of skate mags, and yes, there are more Adidas New York photos.

Spot Updates: The parks department knocked chunks out of every ledge on the pier next to the Tribeca park, as an effort to ruin them before we got the chance to or something.

The Zoo York Institute of Design

In the introduction to his interview with Zered Bassett, Chris Nieratko details how Zoo York was once a source of pride for east coast skaters. A few buyouts and a decade later, nobody sets up a Zoo board with a geographic bias in mind anymore. Even if the company completely phases out of skating, people will forever nerd out over their first three videos (Mixtape, at this point, is just as much of a hip-hop classic a la Wild Style or Style Wars as a classic skate video), and chances are, most who began skating after Zoo ceased being any sort of an east coast status symbol have seen those videos and cried about how all the spots are gone.

You can’t type “zoo york ads” into a Vimeo search bar and get any results, so a lot of younger kids won’t see the old Zoo ads. (They probably won’t see the new ones either…do kids still look at magazines?) Those ads are just as full of classic nineties east coast iconography as the original videos.

The Zoo ads throughout the nineties were HIP-HOP at a time when that meant more than leaving comments about how Lil’ Wayne sucks on every pre-2000 rap video’s YouTube page. Other companies even jocked their whole hip-hop scrapbook vibe when it was appropriate: Transworld styled article layouts for east coast skaters with Zoo’s look (see here), west coast companies would run Zoo-esque ads for their east coast riders (see here and here), and start-up east coast brands like Illuminati, Metropolitan, and Capital all had a bit of Zoo DNA in their ads. It’s unfortunate that now, even when paired with a sick photo, Zoo ads look pretty generic.

Waka Flocka Lockout

Unable to continue his DuFlockaRant and Lebron Flocka James series due to NBA labor negotiations, Waka Flocka Flame is expected to release mixtapes honoring key NBPA figureheads. Billy Flocka Hunter will be the first release.

Three-minute long Bronze promo for Phil Rodriguez, set to the sounds of Mystic Stlyez-era Three 6 Mafia revisionist, Spaceghostpurp. Phil is the man best known for his inspirational work in the Caviar video. Until there is a team with both Mike Carroll and Rob Campbell on it, Bronze will remain to be the best team in skateboarding.

Miles Marquez attributed his reason for quitting skateboarding to watching Christian Willis skate in real life. (This is when the “I’m going to buy a bottle of Jack and drink it until I no longer care that I suck at skating” quote was uttered.) Here is a new part from Christian Willis. Hopefully, it has an adverse effect on you, and you don’t quit skateboarding.

Nolan Lee noticed that there was a rail running parallel to the Forbidden Banks, and managed to somehow ollie over it. In other Forbidden Banks news, there’s a guy next door who flashes a PBA pin in his wallet as if it was a badge, thinking people will be dumb enough to mistake him for a cop.

“Thugs Vs Skateboarders At A Skatepark & Gun Shots Went Off!” The intelligent discussion in the comments of this video must be seen to be believed.

Apparently, there is a skatepark in Brower Park (the Crown Heights spot mentioned last week), which has received minimal coverage. This is the only picture of it that came up after an online search. Looks like a bunch of concrete boxes, but could be decent if you live in the area.
