Spots: Midtown Manhattan — Midtown East
Spot: It is insane to think of what purpose this plaza serves, knowing it’s barred from the one activity that could make the most use of it.
The spot has two natural wedge style brick banks that look like they are right out of a skatepark. The main one on top of the plaza is about eight feet wide and six feet tall, and has a quick eight foot runway up top if you get the temptation to do a trick into it. There is another one on the lower portion the ascends in height and steepness for about eight feet.
Bust — ♦♦♦♦♦ / Almost Immediate: As you probably guessed from the name, it is close to impossible to skate here. The banks face a giant security window, and security will spot you the second you throw your board down. Sometimes, they spot you from across the street and are up and on their feet before you even have a chance. The only chance you have of skating this spot is by running straight ahead and running back and forth as fast as you can between tries. Security will occasionally come on a loudspeaker and tell you to leave, which may buy you an additional thirty seconds if you choose to ignore them and force them to come outside in order to get you to leave.
Location: 48th Street and 3rd Avenue. Take the E, V or 6 to Lexington Avenue-53rd Street, skate east one block to Third Avenue, and south five blocks until you reach 48th Street.
