Happy New Year. Last week was a wash. Not much happened, nor did a lot of #hot #new #content appear on the skateboard internet. If you want to catch up on stuff you missed in 2014, beyond the standard year-end sources, check Slam City Skates’ list of favorite parts from British skateboarders of note or your “favourite” European skateboarder’s “favourites” from the year.

Discovering how fun and unrefined Hungarian skateboarding looks was one of our “favourite” developments of 2014, so here’s the new one from Budapest’s Rios Crew.

This is cool, but where’s the footage of the Trahan Washington Square kickflip?

ConEd Banks seems like a horrible place to spend prolonged time at during a summer (or fall) trip to New York. Three Up Three Down is a great place for a nap though.

Sean Malto, on the struggle of only being romantically admired by 15-year-old girls.

Ripped Laces’ annual list of the year’s best skate shoes. No Supreme Foams?

Even though you’d wind end up sharing it with a bunch recently divorced, “skating past a mid-life crisis” art directors, they should build one of these in Central Park.

Like most things, uptown is a lot more fun in the summertime. Cool kickflip, btw.

Unswayed by the fact that no storied skate company has ever come back from the dead to come close to its glory days, Alien Workshop announced yesterday that it will be joining Habitat under the Tum Yeto umbrella. Seagullllllssssss…

Rob Mathieson may be the quietest British person I know. Here’s a video of him skating around Boston and New York for Krooked’s U.K. division.

The crew behind the Tuesday vid got the urge to re-do the entire video, rendering it Tuesday-free as an attempt to distance itself from that day’s popularity spurt.

Has Bieber been channeling The Muska all along?

A compendium of the tricks that have gone down the Clipper Ledge, likely 2014’s “Spot of the Year,” in .gif form. Clipper #listicles r mad hot yo.

I watched that movie The Notebook. You ever watch that?” — Mike Tyson

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Nick Young is the frontrunner for the Sports Desk’s S.O.T.Y. Also, people on Twitter are already calling this the dunk of the year.

If you’re curious as to where we were at before this year (or bored…yeah, you’re probably bored), here are the first posts from 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

‘Where’s My Morning Paper?’

canada

Went up to Canada for the holiday weekend, hence Monday Links are, um, “going up” on a Tuesday :( As you may tell from the photo above, it did not go great.

Josh Stewart remixed Kevin Tierney’s Static IV part with some alternate angles, different tricks, and a new song. Try and find a recent New York-based part where someone skates an old spot in a new way as many times as Kev does. One of the best and most original parts of the year, for sure.

“We’ll start this off with the big question: Is Gino Iannucci now on Fucking Awesome?”
Next question.”

The transaction resembled Tumblr acquiring AOL, or perhaps Bronze Hardwares absorbing Prodigy [the rapper and / or the web portal.]” Also, BTO late pass: Why Ryan Gallant’s Transworld cover is a victory for everyone.

Obviously this piece was meant to highlight more sophisticated maneuvers, but how exactly could one “appreciate” the Chinese ollie without mentioning Ben Sanchez?

A Javier Sarmiento part filmed in maybe two days with bad editing and filming worse than what’s expected of a Quartersnacks clip is still better than pretty much anything. Dude’s going to be 50 one day, still looking cooler than anyone on a skateboard.

Ripped Laces put together a #listicle of the best pedestrian v.s. skateboarder interactions from skate videos. “That’s why you should skate in the street: to meet weirdos.” That rationale has also been used to justify riding MTA trains, but the frustrations might outweigh the entertainment.

Well, now we know that Bobby Shmurda’s rise to stardom will coincide with a plethora of applicable #musicsupervision choices for Bobby Worrest re-edits. Also, here’s some B-side clips of Bobby from the 2000s, several of which look unfamiliar.

The Chocolate team stops by Astor Place and the L.E.S. park on their “20 Years” tour. FYI: The Astor Place construction that has been “imminent” for more than five years is starting to look like a reality.

Here’s Joseph Delgado’s part from OD WAVY and Brandon Girona’s part from PFP3.

Throwaway reel from John Valenti with some chill Brendan Carroll footage.

Jim Hodgson remixed his In Absentia Newport footage if you weren’t into our version.

QS Sports Desk Preseason Play of the Week: Oh Nate, it’s great to have you back. JaVale on the bench is another welcome sight.

Quote of the Week: “Being loud and obnoxious doesn’t get you ahead in life. Most of the time, it sets you back. Actually, all of the time.” — Andre Page

Still a bunch of gear in the webstore. #supportyourlocalskatesite ;)

“Skating through midtown Manhattan that night, I remembered that I used to think skateboarding would never get too big because it hurt too much. Because you can’t take the pain out of skateboarding. Because putting yourself deliberately in harm’s way is a quick, easy, and reliable route to the truth.” This is a solid read.

TWS’ “Skate Nerd” segment with Kalis and Smolik is more entertaining than any link you may find below. “Kelly Slater?”

Worth repeating that Wes Kremer is the best?

Our good friend Alexander Mosley A.K.A. the Watermelon Man is having an art show at 2nd Nature in Bushwick this Saturday, October 4th. 7-11 P.M. Flyer here.

Finally: Frozen in Carbonite’s annual “Song of the Summer” x “Video Part of the Summer” mash-up segment. It tackles Static 4‘s equivalence to a prog-rock epic, Chris Brown and Bronze’s penchant for controversy, the truth that VX just looks blurry now, Bobby Shmura videos having a similar gender breakdown to skate videos, and Sinner’s post-modern, post-genre take on a video part. Incredible.

Monster has a new interview with Jake Johnson. Some heavy reading on the current situation at Alien Workshop, relationships in skateboarding, life after skating, etc.

GX1000 also posted this incredible IG clip of Jake bails. Last one is nuts.

Quick clip of Danny Supa cruising around Washington Heights.

Antwuan Dixon back on it.

For such a high-profile world city, Paris has been rather underrated for skating ever since the Lordz video era. Last week’s nine-minute “Scene” edit from Kingpin really puts how great it is into perspective. Spent a good two weeks there this past summer, and never saw at least 75% of the spots they skate. Features some solid Rich Homie Juan tricks. Also, if you slept on Vincent Touzery’s part in the Cafe Clope video (14:40 mark) earlier this year, you’re dumb.

Yeah, uh, about that unreleased Lakai Koston 1… (Part was sick though.)

Wow @ ollie over the Gino manual pad (not Roslyn) and probably the first trick down that kinked 57th Street rail in this Frankie Spears “Video Check Out.”

New northeast-encompassing video from the Mood NYC crew.

#weird skaters v.s. the 181st Street park.

“Don’t try to impress the old people. Be yourself. I think it’s the duty of all young artists — no disrespect — to say ‘Man, fuck y’all’ to the people before them. That keeps the music going.” — Andre 3000. Why couldn’t this interview be an hour longer? (“Nah nah nah yo real hip-hop yo NYC yo.”)

Huge: Marisa Tomei co-signed her Alltimers cruiser. An Oscar winner!

Thanks to Ripped Laces for the kind words about the QS Dunk. Available in skate shops now. QS gear available in Supreme (New York and Los Angeles) and Labor Skateshop this week. Available in Euro/Asian retailers and less local-ized skate shops later this month. Online eventually ;)

Diamond Days #75. Forrest Edwards would be bummed on this one. Interesting that the curb-cut island on E. 9th and Third Avenue has become one of the most #trending spots of 2014, despite the fact that every human who has ever skated in New York passes it ~50x a week on the way to Tompkins. Skate it before NYU buys it.

Team Keith 4ever!!!11 ♥♥♥ And he didn’t even do a backside 360!

Here’s the teaser for Strangers, the new one from the LurkNYC crew.

“Whose face should be on the $100 bill?” “Mine.” Dazed interviews the Muska. (Agree with the $100 bill sentiment, though it’d be preferable that it featured the Shorty’s silhouette rather than the picture they mocked up.)

Remember when Ali Boulala was gully?

The NJ-based In Crust We Trust squad put together a cool summer clip. The spots somehow keep getting more insane in these. Also, is Makonnen the new Big L? The new Modest Mouse? The new…guy on OVO?

Dudes who play the guitar for more than the #lifestyle shot of their magazine interview: Daniel Lebron with an intro to flamenco over on the Live Skate Media site. Some of the best #lowkey #musicsupervision on QS was when we were able to snag a recording of Dani playing for our 2011 Barcelona edit.

Obligatory “Summer Trip to New York” video links: The Richmond-based / Vine-loving Bust Crew’s trip on Vans’ OffTheWall.tv site, and some young’ns from Austin rip around the city a bit earlier in the season.

Whoa, did Stefan Janoski sign with Polo?

Always been a fan of these jazzy, night footage-heavy clips from Grace Skate Co. “Taped On” is their latest, though its for fans chill ambience and mellow skating, rather than dudes jumping over Black Hubba.

More along the lines of the Bobby Shmurda clip everyone was expecting. At least this one actually has the dance in it.

The summer’s overrrrrr….

…except September is supposed to be hotter than August. Being “into” fall is mad corny anyway. Have a good week everyone.

Jake Johnson’s Static IV part.

How many tries do you think this took?

Uploaded a standalone YouTube version of Carroll and Howard’s parts from the Tennyson Corporation’s Chocolate Tour 2000 remix video. Watch the full thing here.

*New Rick Howard footage alert*

Zered has a rad new black and white cruiser clip for Converse, put together by Richard Quintero. See if you can spot the cameo from another New Englander.

Summer’s basically over, but we’re still six weeks away from Labor Day, so Ripped Laces compiled a #listicle of the ten greatest tricks ever done in an all-white outfit. #s 10-6 & #s 5-1. No debate about the #1, but Andre Page did make a gallon of Kool Aid in an all-white outfit at the TF this past weekend. Not sure if that counts…

America Sucks for Skateboarding — Example #578. (Seaport 5.0 is reknobbed btw.)

More Seinfeld-themed skate videos: Sack Lunch, out of Boston. “So do you think they got shrunk down, or is it just a giant sack?”

Muska wearing #drk #fshn and killing a demo out in London. “Raf Simons, Rick Owens Supra Skytops usually what I’m dressed in.” Tell O’Dell we want that Epicly Later’d.

With Transworld being 1/4 the size it was ten years ago, Boil the Ocean weighs in on skateboard media’s drift away from the printed page.

Clark Hassler has a bit of New York footage in the Coma Backpacks promo. (JanSport Skate coming soon?) His section begins around the 6:30 mark. The ender (around the corner from Beatrice! R.I.P!) is definitely a Kickflip of the Year contender, especially given 2013 title-holder Brandon Westgate’s quiet year so far.

Lurker Lou is having a show for his Card Boards project at 2nd Nature in Bushwick (257 Varet Street) on Saturday, July 19. Flyer here. All boards will be for sale.

Hey Kingpin, you may have to amend your “Afterbang” listicle to include this.

DJ Khaled — Suffering from Success. And skateboarding. And cheeseburgers:

Taking cues from Forrest Gump’s corrective leg braces to create the cure for mongo.

Sack taps?

Yo call Corey Rubin, we out to skate Brad and Angelina’s house.
