The memory lane inclined minds at Cash Only just dropped their debut video, The Cash Only Video. (Shout out to anyone enough of a nerd to remember the Vehicle Skateboards commercial from the first EST video.)

The video is anchored on two parts: the first from the newly pro Aleka Lang, who by way of likely Clockwork Orange-ing Alien Workshop’s Photosynthesis videotape for his formative years, manages to bring an evolved Love Park sensibility to the ledges at the Vancouver Art Gallery, a spot 1/100th as good as Love Park, and the second is from also pro, QS-favorite, Humidity Skateshop C.E.O., philanthropist and New Orleans skate scene mayor, Philly Santosuosso.

Congratulations to John Gardner on the pro board ♥ There are few skaters as contagiously fun to watch as John, and if getting people hyped to skate is the principal purpose of why we have pro skateboarders to begin with, John should’ve been pro ages ago :) Creature dropped a remix of his footy from the past few years to illustrate that exact point. Can’t think of a recent skate commercial that was this good. Philly Santosuosso and a friend pay homage to Spike and Mike’s “Is it the shoes?” Jordan ad on the occasion of Philly’s new Venture truck. The execution is just so, so good, right down to every little detail. Give everyone involved a raise.

Pants, as an article of clothing and a philosophical entity, dominate the skate zeitgeist. They consume the daily banter on #skatetwitter, inspired an Instagram account dedicated to IDing them, and have the potential to become the most controversial item of one’s kit. Pants factions line up like the gangs at the beginning of The Warriors — Dickies disciples, nineties enthusiasts, Polar people, and so on.

So began our quest to investigate — not so much the what of pants — but the why. To accomplish this goal, we interviewed four skaters over a generational spectrum and asked the same set of questions.

As we stitched together the interviews, one common thread stood out: Like everything else in 2020, one’s choice of pants is a political act.

But what about during a global pandemic? Suddenly, in the era of social distancing, those ten friends plus filmer cease to be C.D.C-compliant.
