New York’s voter registration deadline is this Friday, October 9th. New Jersey’s registration deadline is next Tuesday, October 13th. Visit Skaters Vote if you’re in another state for information. You already know the drill — if you regularly read QS and don’t vote (assuming you’re eligible), may every karmic force available in the universe roll the fuck out of your ankle on the morning of November 4th, may all your coffees spill onto your crotch for the entire time you’re recovering, and hopefully, you get fucking wheelbite and fly face first into a dirty puddle in front of all your exes on your first day back skating.

Some more Keith Hufnagel tributes: 1) The Warm-Up Zone wrote about Huf’s Non Fiction part, and that brown marble 360 flip that got reposted so much these past two weeks, 2) Free and Sneep / Memory Screen teamed up for a Huf video retrospective, 3) The New York Times ran an obituary for one of New York’s own, and most influential ♥

Someone Made a De Facto Video Library of Brooklyn Banks Footage

Someone under the moniker “Froggery Jones” has been uploading anywhere from four-to-fourty second slices of any and all Brooklyn Banks footage on YouTube.

These go back to the 80s, and are not exclusively clips from R.B. Umali’s videos or old 411s; whoever Mr. Jones is, he’s digging deep. For example, nobody we’ve asked (ok, didn’t try that hard) has any idea where the footage of Quim and Mike Cardona below is from or what video that Peter Bici line was in. EDIT: Those are from R.B’s Instagram, but weren’t in Revisited 1 or 2.

I know I’ve seen that Mike Carroll frontside flip somewhere, same with the Rick Howard tre, but it was definitely with music, and even so, hard to put a finger on exactly where it was. (Literally spent 45 minutes researching which FTC video it was until admitting defeat. Well aware that the answer is going to end up being so obvious.)

Life Is Good

Did you know that the middle of the out ledge at Zuccotti is actually a portal into the netherworld?

You’re about to think you’re reading a 2014 Monday Links update: “Buzzcam 01” is a new Johnny Wilson video blog. We LOVE YouTube Johnny. Mostly filmed around the Vans park, with some street clips at the end.

Zach Baker put together a new edit featuring E.T. and E.J. for when she tells you that you’re too old to be listening to YNW Melly.

NENGAJO” is a fun five-minute New Years VX montage via a bunch of dudes from Japan in New York, with some cameos mixed in between ♥

Remember

Still a surreal day on the calendar every year. Over the years, we have done several posts regarding how that day shaped our tiny corner of New York — An Interview With Zered Bassett About the Vicious Cycle House (several blocks from Ground Zero circa 2002-2003), February 2002 Transworld Article re: 9/11, Twin Towers skate photos, Twin Towers skate clips 1996-2001.

You’re in for an onslaught of recap content throughout the internet, but the Dime Glory Challenge was absolutely brilliant. Forever grateful to be skateboarding on the earth at the same time in history as these brilliant Canadian minds.

Watermelonism has some new embroidered tees and hats.

“What was harder to do: switch big flip Chinatown Double-Set or switch backside flip D7?” NY Skateboarding has a solid interview with Tyshawn Jones, reigning “Did you hear what _____ did?!” king of New York City.

Transworld interviewed Josh Kalis about the greatest kickflip ever done™.

We’re the last ones to continue beating the dead horse of varial flip pontification, but the one (you’ll know which one…) in Sami El Hassani’s all-around brilliant new clip for Pop Trading Company deserves some extra attention.

People began skating the new Harlem skatepark on 114th Street and First Avenue (conveniently located between Haiji’s and Patsy’s) this past week. Looks kinda like Cooper Park tbh. Troy posted a clip from it, but there are a few more floating around.

Yaje Popson warms up with avocados and nollie half cab switch backside 5-0s. No wonder he’s the only native T.F. local with his name on a skateboard ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

People are still pissed about you skating the plaza on 110th and 8th, and hopes for a new Byrdgang video are high in the QS office. Here’s a teaser for Byrdgang 3.

(When is Hijinx 2 dropping though?)

Here’s the raw footage from Dane Baker’s part for Lottie’s Skate Shop.

Jenkem has a Prodigy tribute mix by skateboarding’s official Mobb Deep ambassador.

Four minutes of nollie backside 180 heelflips throughout history.

Vice posted up a deleted scene from Bam’s Epicly Later’d of Kerry and Bam skating Kerry’s backyard ramp in Pennsylvania. Party at my house for the Muska one.

Quote of the Week: “I can’t wear blue, it’s a color.” — Girl Wearing All Black in the Dime Store

Happy belated birthday, Roy Ayers.

Mondays Are For The Links

Jav. Westside. Reda.

Bobshirt interviews have kinda replaced Epicly Later’d as the eminent series for telling stories about the good old days. Every edition is great, but the new one with Giovanni Reda is a truly special. He’s an encyclopedia of New York skateboarding. Also #respect on the comments re: having no shame in fanning out in adult years :)

It’s incredible how the crowd consensus on a new skatepark in New York can go from “It’s so fun, flows well, actually has straight [fucking] ledges” to “it’s too dusty, everything is uphill and awkward” in 72 hours. Are we the worst? Probably. NY Skateboarding has photos of the completed Fat Kid Skatepark in downtown Brooklyn.

Some people just aren’t that bright yaknow?

With so many skate videos out every day, it’s rare to see something that truly reminds you of no other skate clip that you’ve ever seen before. A trip to a string of ancient cities outside of Moscow known as the “Golden Ring” by Russia’s Absurd Skateboards. It’s trippy man.

A link to a video clip that features Javier Sarmiento, Jesus Fernandez, Daniel Lebron, Luy-Pa Sin and Tom Penny. #EuroTech™ #EuroTech™ #EuroTech™

TWS put its feature on Colin Read and Spirit Quest online.

“Skate the streets while you still can.” Thrasher has an interview with Bobby and Hjalte about the making of “Looks OK To Me.”

Straight on backside 180 over the Columbus Park rail and other points of interest in the sixth installment LurkNYC’s “Mean Streets” series.

“The beauty of the skate industry is you make lifelong friendships. Once you’re in there, if you’re working hard and doing a good job you’re basically in for life.” Skateboard Story interviewed Mike Gilbert, the director of Thrasher‘s website, about running a skateboard media company in 2016.

Jenkem followed up with Billy Rohan after that Politico story about him meeting with Tr*mp came out last week. Didn’t actually happen, but honestly, I’m not putting anything past a dude who got permits to skate in front of the White House and rights to print federal emblems on skateboards back in 2009…

Boil the Ocean tackles the election, reports of Cliché’s demise (“confirmed” on this?), and Canada excelling at everything this past Drake-dominated half-decade. #morelife

Nine-minute B-roll of some ATL (?) dudes skating New York this past summer.

“As I float away, it must be a dream…” 90-minute best of Mr. 3-2 mix. S/O Martorialist.

QS Sports Russell Westbrook Desk: Come on now. Dagger in Houston. Hey, Russ is at the Garden this time next week btw ;)

Quote of the Week: “I don’t like drinking in my skate clothes.” — Will Robson-Scott

Two favorite songs right now ♥ If you see Thando, buy him a drink.
