Favorite Spot With Cyrus Bennett on The Sombrero

“If you’re not doing shit and you strike out a couple of times, you can just go there and punish yourself.”

After a long hiatus for the “Favorite Spot” series, Farran has brought it back with the second most-requested episode after the Max one. (Which now, makes it the most-requested episode?)

In a city as dense with spots as this one, it’s really something for a spot to feel isolated from the rest of skateboarding, and this one certainly fits the bill — as anyone who has been stuck here watching a friend try a trick can attest. Cyrus Bennett was kind enough to share his history with this innocuous corner of Maspeth on the side of a highway, between two cemeteries.

Expensive Navy

This is the last week it gets dark before 7 P.M. 🤞

Shadow is a full-length Long Island scene video (though obviously much of it is filmed in the city) by David Rind. Last two parts are fire, though you may have caught the link for Max Rowlette’s section last week when Skate Jawn ran it.)

Not sure there has been a Johnny Wilson trip edit since that “Roadtrip” one way way back. Tom Knox, Nik Stain, Eric Koston, Louie Lopez, et al. in Texas with Miles Griptape, ICYMI. Love that this roster could come together for something as arbitrary as a griptape team trip, and have it feel like an actual homie edit ❤️

“If, when I was 15, somebody told me to stab someone and they’d give me this, I would’ve done it.” Greg Navarro — creator of The Upper West Side Curb Club — hung around …the Upper West Side with Eli Gesner to get a breakdown of the neighborhood’s landmark spots for a new Jenkem video series called “Neighborhoods.”

Like Whoa

Send Za” is the latest New York edit from videographer Eryk Burton. Ender nollie heel at the new spot everyone’s been getting yelled at is wild.

“I always liked no complies, even when they weren’t cool.” Love these — “Watching Jerry Fowler with Jerry Fowler” is the latest in Village Psychic’s “Watching” series, and it’s about his Continuum part. Glad that he likes it, because it rules ♥ Doing one of these with Jahmal about his section would be just as rad :)

The union bosses at Hit You Off Management re-saturated and remixed some of Dick Rizzo’s Grand Prairie clips.

Lousy Smarch Weather

E.J. with 2018 gang by Keith Denley

Johnny Wilson chatted with Heckride about some of the backstories behind John’s Vid, and the virtues of not building public anticipation to an upcoming project.

“[Keith] saw that we had skateboards and asked if we wanted to skate his ‘run.’ This ‘run’ was a planned-out continuous route of spots he’d hit on a daily basis. You had to skate it fast and without stopping because there was traffic, open businesses, pedestrians and security guards — who knew Keith would be pushing through at some point after 3 P.M. when school was out.” Thrasher has an incredible retrospective feature that recounts stories from many of Huf’s closest friends.
