Some Footage …For Posterity’s Sake

It is easy to forget that we’ve been living in “this” for two years already, given that 2020 and 2021 feel like one giant blob of time. And for all the things that have irreversibly changed during the pandemic, skateboarding — particularly with friends outside, not in a skatepark — has remained a consistent comfort for all of us.

I found this folder of unused footage that Dre filmed almost two years ago (a lot of the A-roll stuff wound up in Josh’s “Quaranteam” part), and just got sappy and appreciative skimming through it, so felt compelled to put it on a timeline to have as a memento ☺️

‘Wavy Wings’ — New Josh Velez & Inkwell Commons Part

josh

“Wavy Wings” is the new one from Andre Page’s Inkwell Commons imprint. Features Josh Velez further exploring the [switch] slappy and wallie arc of his skateboard career, which leaving quick footed ledge-ry to those two wooden benches in the financial district that are somehow the only subsequent ledges in lower Manhattan that you get time at. However, the spot’s most transcendent moment may be the switch slappy nosegrind pop-out that combines all of the aforementioned ingredients :)

Guest tricks from Nick Nunez, Kadeem Walters, John Diaz, Connor Champion, Tyshawn Jones and Troy Stilwell with reportedly the best clip he ever got in his life.

Filmed by Andre Page. Edit by CRUZXCTRL.

Previously: Josh Velez for Inkwell Commons (2015), Djosh Unchained (2013)

The Winter That Was / Still Is

winter 2015

Haven’t done a “winter” clip since 2011, but maybe the coldest January-February-March of our lifetime deserves a revival of this non-tradition. (FYI: It’s going back down to thirty-degree temperatures on Saturday.)

Below are the few days that were spent skating in this cold season. It is obvs edited to a song off the album that kept the Quartersnacks office from joining hands and jumping out of our thirty-eighth floor window after reviewing any given ten-day forecast from this past winter. StremmLife is a happy rap classic — and we just trying to have fun yo. (Free idea: Since it’s break-up season and all…if your girl breaks up with you right before all your hot new footage drops, you should def retweak the part to “This Could Be Us” A.K.A. the Rae Sremmurd Blackalicious song.)

Did You Skate During the Blizzard?

dre snow day

“No, but I know someone who did.”

We’ve been really good at wasting full set-ups lately

Not much here besides video evidence of the fact that Andre Page went skateboarding during Monday night’s blizzard (which, for people who don’t live around here, was projected to dump two feet of snow on the city.) And there’s no doubt in my mind that there would be more footage if the city didn’t threaten to possibly arrest people for being on the roads after 11 P.M.

Features Andre Page, Matt Perez and John Diaz. Filmed by John Diaz.

Have a good weekend. It’s supposed to be ten below zero with windchill ;)

Don’t Look Like That: End of Summer 2013

dre roof 360 flip

We’re three weeks past our Labor Day deadline for End of Summer clips, Dre is back to wearing colors besides white, and we’ve been experiencing some 50-degree mornings, so this is more like a Start of Fall clip.

The past summer was weird. Our research of recent visitor trends revealed a massive increase of Brooklyn readers, so we were advised to up the wallie and wallride count in this video by a whopping 80%. In fact, Josh Velez took it upon himself to enter the wallie arc of his career some seven years earlier than he initially anticipated to remedy this disconnect between the site’s content and its readers/viewers. Also, there are an inordinate amount of Jersey Shore spots in this clip to add to the weirdness.

Features Zered Bassett, Atlanta Shane, Haffa, Galen Dekemper, John Diaz, Ron Deily, Josh Velez, Pryce Holmes, Elijah Cole, Lui Elliot, Kadeem Walters, Ritch Homie Swain, Torey Goodall, Shawn Powers, Andre Page, Matthew Perez, Lurker Lou, Brendan Carroll, Tyler Tufty, Quim Cardona, Gavin Nolan, Paul Tucci, and Alexander Mosley.

Have a good weekend.
