Hjalte Halberg For Frog Skateboards!

[A.K.A. The third post in which we try to squeeze water out of a rock by making it about The Triangle™ because this clip has the last footage ever filmed on it.]

Faced with the truth that Pontus Alv is in great cardiovascular health, Hjalte Halberg did the next best thing to sending Frog his coveted sponsor-me tape: he endorsed a Frog guest board. And so, in an age where prominent leadership positions in the free world start out as jokes, we begin a fruitful journey by which Frog gradually absorbs the Danish athlete and 2014 Q.S.S.O.T.Y. Max Palmer into its official roster.

The clip of Hjalte’s New York trip is the only thing Pryce was looking forward to more than Swaecation. Filmed during the most productive two weeks of autumn 2k17. Can’t wait for Franco’s pro board. Guest tricks from Max Palmer, Aaron Loreth, Andrew Wilson, Genny, Vert God, Franco, Jawn Gardner, etc.

Edited by Jason Byoun. Board and new stuff available over on the Frog site.

Rest in Peace Curtis Valentine.

“He does pretty hard tricks.” — Javier Sarmiento re: Jesus Fernandez. Part early Epicly Later’d, part “Day in the Life,” and all people just fanning out on what a great human — let alone skater — he is, Free Skate Mag‘s three part Jesus documentary is the positive force we need in all of our lives right now.

Public Housing Skate Team has a new nine-minute edit up, which includes a Jason Byoun part at the end.

Somehow missed this one when it first came out, but Heavenly is a sixteen-minute video of mostly Texas (?) dudes skating mostly New York spots. They lowkey went in on that Water Street rail-to-rock that Connor lipslid, and switch backside flip manual at the Brooklyn Tompkins park is insane.

When you take #RP-ing your friends’ tricks to another level.

“You didn’t want to do outdated tricks, you wanted to stay up because the tide was moving. As much as skateboarders, critics, journalists, or whoever is recording the timeline of skateboarding want to say that there are no rules, there always has been a wave. And you’re either in the front of the wave or behind the wave.” Bobby Puleo on a simple question for Village Psychic: “How do you feel about wallies?”

Oh yeah, Lamborghinis pull up into L.E.S. Park all the time.

A select few elevate flatground frontside 180s into art.

Ian Reid was down in Charlottesville photographing the protests two weekends ago, and gave NBC an interview about what he saw.

Spot Updates1) The bump on Howard and Crosby (~the old Vespa bump) had a rail put in its center. Someone got it. 2) Though it has been an off-and-on bust for the past several years, given all the beef over monuments in the U.S. right now, the cops have fully barricaded the ledges off at Columbus Circle.

August is a historically slow time for the skateboard internet, as it is for Hollywood, so let’s lighten the mood with some non-skate related links!1) And you thought the Chinatown fashion was crazy. These bootleg American t-shirts in Asia are insane. 2) Frankly, I’m sick of the Takeoff slander as well. 3) “It is possible to make a difference in the world without yelling.” A high school senior with some timely words for the NYT.

Check out the new commercial Genesis Evans and Conor Prunty’s brand, Humble! Then show some support for friends doing cool stuff!

Best video of 2017? Scumco and Sons has a new one featuring Kyle fucking Nicholson and Philly Santosuosso. The overall spirit of the Pittsburgh skate scene is one of the most admirable, inspiring and make-you-feel-stupid-for-complaining-about-literally-anything forces in skateboarding. God bless everyone involved. Really predictable #1 for this week’s QS Top 10 as well.

C H A D M U S K A E P I C L Y L A T E R ‘ D H O L Y S H I T. Our prayers have been answered! The upcoming season also includes episodes for Andrew Reynolds, Bam (!!!), Heath Kirchart, Jason Dill, Andy Roy and Spike Jonze.

#TF[west]Report, August 19, 2017, but I’d teleport to Republiqué if given the chance :)

Another week, another iconic Nik Stain backside smith grind line ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The last #fit anyone expected to see in a 2017 skate clip (a Jeremy Lin jersey), and some subversive line choreography at the Pratt brick bank ledge. Drew Connors uploaded his longest promo yet for Bailar II, which has apparently been completed.

Boil the Ocean has suggestions for Wenning, Lakai and Clint “Worst Style” Walker.

Bronze affiliates and QS office favorites, Mark Humienik and Josh Wilson, visited the under-explored city of Istanbul and came back with this edit.

Steve Mastorelli uploaded his Jersey (duh) based Meadowlands video in full.

Here’s “Mean Streets” volume 9 via LurkNYC, but you gotta #respect Paul Tucci.

A ten-minute remix of Andrew Allen footage + some cameos from Vans guys.

Stuff you’ve seen already1) Palace dropped a new, 14-minute video that includes a small intro part for Lucas at the end. Dej is sick but he should’ve skated to Cardi B. 2) The boys behind Hjalte Halberg’s favorite non-Swedish skateboard company went to Brazil and came back with the feel-good motion picture of the summer. My new favorite skateboard-writer, Jesse Alba, also wrote the article about their trip to Russia with accompanying photos by Colin Sussingham.

“Your Honor, totally he is guilty and in no way can I let him slide out of anything because — it’s my attitude toward his entire demeanor, what he has done to people. And he disrespected the Wu-Tang Clan.”

Look, we wouldn’t begin a Monday Links post with a link to a “Mask Off” challenge unless it was really worth it. Now enjoy the rest of your glorious day ♥

The internet is a fucking insane place, man.

“We went to Gay Ledges, then Washington Square, then we started skating a book near NYU.” Skating a book propped against a curb = the state of skate spots in New York, planet earth, the year two thousand seventeen.

An Easter-best Conor Prunty — who’s a week away from celebrating the one-year anniversary of “422” — astutely skating a parking block, via Max Hull.

Not sure if him and the Vert God ever made amends, but Taylor Nawrocki’s part from Politic’s First Division video is now online. The Columbus Circle line with the cruise against three lanes of traffic was rad, and in the nineties tradition of going out of your way to end a line off with a flatground trick.

“In New York everybody seems like they have shit that they have to be doing all the time. And when winter hits, you better have shit to do. Otherwise it’s too much to deal with.” Solo has an interview with prodigal Jersey boys, Josh Wilson and Dick Rizzo.

Mini Nik Stain part at the ~11 minute mark of YMPT3.

Though they typically make the best videos out, this one isn’t my favorite bit of recent Isle videography (it’s a bit too artsy, even for Isle, to fully get hyped off of). Their section from TWS’ Cinematographer Project: World View video is now online.

Feels like there hasn’t been footage from the Seagram Building ledge this decade.

Name literally anyone who currently rides for Theeve Trucks.”

Chops compiled all the one movie / one book / one album entires in his Instagram-only side series for Chromeball.

New part from Max Van Arnem, who Jake Johnson once said is his favorite skater.

Pat O’Dell’s feature-length documentary, Dumb: The Story of Big Brother Magazine, will be screened as a part of Tribeca Film Festival later this month, but those outside of New York now have a Hulu release date in early June to look forward to.

2017 is full of surprises — even pleasant ones! Just when we were getting worried he stopped going in, perennial QS-office fave and composer of modern times’ finest love song, Rich Homie Quan, dropped a really, really good album last week. (Zillion dollar idea: Lock Quan and Thug in a room, force them to become friends again, give them all the instrumentals from Carti’s new album, boom, world peace.)

QS Sports Desk Play of the Week: Stoked to see John Wall out there leading and thriving more each postseason, galaxies removed from the McGee/Nick Young/Arenas era Wizards, who were admittedly the funniest basketball team of this generation.

I Quit My Job in #myalltimers

Dustin Henry wraps up his 2016 bid as “Skateboarder You Would Be Most Comfortable With Your Daughter Dating” with a starring role in “#myalltimers” — edging ever close to 2016’s leading frontrunner, Louie Lopez. It’s been a year full of upsets, and given Dustin’s steadfast commitment refusing to use swear words, not listening to Chief Keef, and a “Part of the Year” contender in the Antisocial vid, maybe he pulls away with the S.Y.W.B.M.C.W.Y.D.D. win this year.

The rest of the latest Alltimers video acts as an intro for Adrian Vega, Tyler Warren, Will Marshall and E.T. the Extraterrestrial + a visual space for Adam Zhu to do the ollie over the bumps at Alligator Ledge that everyone always claimed.

Who would you be most OK with your daughter dating?
