There’s no reason to believe a Muska Epicly Later’d is going down anytime soon. This comprehensive hour-and-forty-minute interview with him on Anthony Shetler’s podcast is the best you’re going to get for a while.

Fakie Hill Bomb’s interview with #forward #thinking skatepark designer, Søren Enevoldsen, is great. “In terms of skateboarding, all you basically need for a skatespot to be succesful, is a couple of granite benches placed on a somewhat large flatground area with a smooth hard surface in an inner city context.” …yet somehow, this concept gets lost for the ramp-to-ledge skatepark designers we get. Just build this pls thx.

On that note, it’s nice to see that the Sants spot in Barcelona has experienced a rebirth with new, skater-made ledges recently. Looks like the Spanish version of Stalin Plaza.

Streets Need That Muska Epicly Later’d Fam

Short of maybe an Epicly Later’d with the entire original Zoo York team (that’s never happening), it’s hard to think of one as desperately needed as one with The Muska.

The “Occasionally Awesome” Podcast dropped an episode with Ed Templeton yesterday, which tells the story of a fateful night when Muska got kicked off Toy Machine (at the 31:20 mark.) There’s no candidate equipped to tell the tale of the ~1998-to-mid-2000s “rockstar era” of skateboarding like The Muska. Kerry Getz is cool but he ain’t kick it with Paris Hilton et al in Las Vegas superclubs.

If you were to re-create a less-dark version of Boogie Nights, except base it on the turn of the millennium, pre-high speed internet skate industry rather than the porn industry at the advent of home video, the Dirk Diggler figure would have to be based on The Muska. (The Welcome to Hell premiere night is clearly the start of act two — it’s set up almost too perfect.) Paul Thomas Anderson probably lost my business card or something (I have the treatment ready to go man), but until he finds it, the crew over at VBS really needs to get it together and work some magic.

And let us not forget the time when Mike V. took on an entire security staff so he “could rescue The Muska from the bad guys.” It’s baffling why skateboarders keep finding themselves making these awful, heavy-handed motivational skate movies, when the most cinematic skate career just sits there as an anecdote on some Podcast with Ed Templeton for three minutes.

A #listicle of the best tricks done down Clipper, which experienced quite a resurgence this year. Switch front blunt and alley oop 180 switch back 5050 got snubbed fam. That, and Muska switch noseslide should have been number one.

A late but enjoyable entrant to the “Summer Trip to New York” clip cycle.

Yo you know what’s really annoying about DVS tour videos? You see them and think, “Oh sick, I get to see Daewon skate outside of his typical SoCal comfort zone” — but then dude only has like 2-3 clips in the entire video. ANYWAY, The DVS team is pretty fun: Torey Pudwill took the Reres Award from whoever may have previously held it for the Milan grate this year, that fakie 5050-halfcab-5050-180 combo is wild, and Luis’ grind down the Le Dome hubba from the flat part (it’s over waist high) is insane.

This was the best video of 2014. Truly inspiring stuff. He really is the best:

Getting In Is the Coolest Part

In honor of #NYFW, and given the free time available in their Boston-based, #FW-lacking headquarters, SMLTalk ran down the five most iconic Muska phases. The Muska’s sometimes bearded, #drk #fshn incarnation of today is not represented. Less sophisticated fashion editors may group this with the “Raver” phase, but we all know they are two different things entirely, albeit natural progressions from one another.

A full goof-around part on east coast-ish spots from Shane O’Neill would be fun, no?

Dudes who play the guitar for more than the #lifestyle shot of their magazine interview: Daniel Lebron with an intro to flamenco over on the Live Skate Media site. Some of the best #lowkey #musicsupervision on QS was when we were able to snag a recording of Dani playing for our 2011 Barcelona edit.

Always been a fan of these jazzy, night footage-heavy clips from Grace Skate Co. “Taped On” is their latest, though its for fans chill ambience and mellow skating, rather than dudes jumping over Black Hubba.

More along the lines of the Bobby Shmurda clip everyone was expecting. At least this one actually has the dance in it.
