Quartersnacks For Nike SB

quartersnacks dunk low

Every Nike SB collaboration has a bit of a “story” to it. We could sit here and peddle some narrative where everyone wears all black to hide the dirt from skating the city all day, and how all the reflective details make you stand out between the cabs while night skating, but that’d be nonsense.

If you read this site enough, you should have known that we’d go fashion over concept from the very beginning. For example, the Chromeball Dunk had an awesome story behind it, but we live in New York — we get shunned for wearing earthtones out here. Between all the luxury brand inspired colorways and New York Post headline-inducing mini riots, the greatest SB Dunk to date (at least for purely skateboarding purposes) was the simplest one of all. It was the Weiger shoe: black pig suede with a white check. Every person affiliated with this website had at least two pairs of it.

A black skate shoe never falls out of fashion or function. That was our template.

From then on, it was only a matter of how many fancy details we could get away with. QS has always been about appreciating the subtler side of skateboarding, and it made sense to not go overboard with loud branding. Thanks to Alex Dymond, Andre Page, Mike Cherman and everyone at Nike SB who made this possible, but more importantly, thanks to all you guys who visit the site and have made it respected enough to give this collaboration any motion to begin with.

The Quartersnacks Dunk Low will be available at skate shops on Saturday, 8/23.

Clip below features Andre Page, Antonio Durao, Connor Champion, Matthew Perez, Josh Velez and Black Dave. Alternate YouTube Link.

New Bobby Worrest part live on Saturday. Quartersnacks pop-up with new merch at 40 Ludlow Street live on Saturday. End of Summer clip live Labor Day Weekend.

“Once upon a time I used to grind all night, with that residue that was iPod white.” Happy belated Thug Motivation 101 Day to everyone. Let’s get it.

Congratulations to everyone who was involved with this: Skateboarding at the Santa Monica Courthouse is now legal. A colossal step forward with how skateboarding is treated in America altogether. Small Banks restoration next? :)

Despite having literally no interest in the Life Extension video whatsoever, the running commentary at SMLTalk piqued the Quartersnacks Office’s interest. (Susan Sarandon is still sorta hot for 60+ btw.) And good thing it did. Pat Pasquale AKA Sinner’s part is INCREDIBLE. We’re talking Josh Kasper in The Storm meets Guy in Mouse meets 2001: A Space Odyssey meets Total Recall. It’s amazing.

Well that was quick: new Supreme mini video with all the “cherry” kids on the way. Sean Pablo also discusses it briefly in his new Vice interview.

The Skate Jawn four-year anniversary clip is a good time.

Speaking of good times, we have a frontrunner for 2014’s “feel good” part of the year. Cult favorite of apparently Kenny Anderson and anyone who grew up on Baker videos, Scott Kane stepped away from handrails and filmed a really fun comeback part.

Four-minute slideshow of the Palace crew in L.A. over on the TWS site.

Bill Strobeck posted up some Jake Johnson alternate angles / regular motion versions of tricks from the Mind Field days on his Instagram.

Now that the Beef Patty dudes are attending venues with bottle service, Video Blogs have occasionally morphed into HD “Instagram Direct” videos. Here’s the latest.

Boil the Ocean sorta talks about remaining pockets of shock value in skating.

Frontside 5050 back 180 out the ledge over ten at Grant’s Tomb and other good stuff in this dude John Shanahan’s part. That cellar door bank between the Citibike racks by EJ’s house is also way sketchier than footage could ever do it justice.

New clip from the Juicy Elbows crew. (#Trendwatch: “Sexual Healing” covers.)

Grinding curbs is not that extreme compared to rails.”

Though both had separate remix videos in the past year, here is a dual part of Kevin Tierney and Black Dave sourced from their King of New York footage. These dudes have come a long way since Trife*, the yellow Osiris hoody (never going to let that one go, it’s too iconic, sorry) and Globe flow days. Great to see them traveling about and still killing harder each and every year.

All footage is filmed in New York City limits by R.B. Umali.

#TBT (the second T is for Tuesday though…) Quote of the Day
Charles Lamb: “I heard you were getting flowed shoes from Globe, that’s cool.”
16-Year-Old Black Dave: “Yeah…Flobe.”

The 2013 edition of Frozen in Carbonite’s always great song of the summer + best video parts of the summer wrap up is now live. It tackles important topics like Mark Appleyard’s longevity, French Montana’s lack of figurative language, and Javier Sarmiento’s fashion choices. Notable omissions to the songs include “Versace,” “No New Friends,” “Type of Way,” “Fine China,” “Get Lucky” (“the Lone Ranger of summer songs” i.e. force fed garbage), and “I Hit It First,” the S.O.T.S. that sadly never was. You can check the 2012 edition here and the 2011 one here.

Joseph Delgado has a solid three-minute video checkout on the Transworld site. The Flushing extension tricks are awesome. (How has “Party and Bullshit” been used for like five skate parts, but nobody thought to use the Lord Finesse version?)

Download Black Dave’s new mixtape, Black Bart.

It has been on the horizon for quite some time, but it looks like the Astor Place renovation is close to becoming an unfortunate reality :(

A few summers ago, there was a kid who would always be at Lenox Ledges trying no comply impossible to frontside 5050s. Never saw him land it (or lock in), but this guy might have him beat either way.

Some dudes put together a historic mini documentary about Milano Centrale, the most famous skate spot in Italy. If given the choice right now, would you rather go to Milan or Prague for a ledge skating trip?

Thrasher uploaded some raw footage of Wade Speyer, Phil Shao and others skating around Manhattan with Bici, Gangemi and the Keefe brothers in the mid-nineties.

Mountain Dew seems committed to monopolizing the skateboard-related #listicle game, and taking a bit of Complex’s marketshare along with it. They have a new one that breaks down the history of Girl and Chocolate in a convenient form for those intimidated by seeing multiple paragraphs on the same page.

Speaking of #listicles, here’s one that makes the case for New Jersey contributing more to skateboarding than any other non-Californian state. Dave Filchak’s name is oddly missing from it though.

Check out volume four of Billy Rohan’s bro cam series, “Illumignarly.”

Database Volume 2 is a cool, largely Jersey City-based mini video.

If you’re pro, you should pro skate this thing before its gone.

QS Sports Desk: Can’t wait to watch D. Rose play again this season.

Thanks to everyone who linked our End of Summer clip: Recordings of Boardings, Grey Skate Mag, Monster Skate Mag, Caught in the Crossfire, NY Skateboarding, Skate Everyday, The Palamino Club, and anyone else. Also big thanks to everyone in the YouTube comments who informed us that Rich Homie Quan is “not real hip-hop.” We’ll re-edit it to KRS-One or something.

Monday links on a Tuesday. “Put the motor in the rear, hit the gas and disappear.”

Torey Goodall continues to make the case for being the best skater besides Mike Carroll and maybe Jake Johnson, while emerging as an underdog threat to Lucas Puig’s “Low Impact Skater of the Year” three-peat.

Black Dave Presents: The Selfie Ollie.

Some dudes from Metro Skateshop really stepped up the custom shaped cruiser game by affixing trucks to an Apple keyboard.

Richie Rizzo’s part in the NJ-based Nevermind video drives home the point about how good quickly-edited skateboarding looks. Pretty hard to get hyped off the crawling pace of something like this, despite absolutely insane tricks. (Dude deserves a “Nights Moves”-esque treatment like Cory Kennedy got.)

Some more Finnish dudes with a lifestyle-y “Trip to New York” clip to Miles’ “So What.” (Related: Finland’s previous entry to the 2013 summer trip to New York cycle.)

James Nickerson at Copley Square in the latest Bolts 4-5-6 clip.

A cameo from an occasional QS commenter in the new Lurk NYC montage. Skating on spots created by Houston Street construction remains a popular development for summer 2013 footage.

Saw this part on Hella Trill and thought it was pretty cool. “We don’t sleep, we just grind like skateboarders.” Are doubles with BMX riders the next frontier for New York’s cellar door skaters?

Wow, someone really missed the mark with casting a believable skatepark lurker girl for Japanese Elle.

Spot Updates: The north side of Bellevue Park on 27th Street has been closed off by a fence for reconstruction. As a result, the frontside for regular handicap ramp rail and two-stair manual pad are no longer skateable.

Fourteen years after when they should have drafted him (instead opting for the eventual victim of the best dunk of all-time, who would never play an NBA game…), the Knicks have signed Ron Artest.
